Geographicaly different dancing styles

how can you shuffle to bangin trance....I mean really???
I can now say I've seen it is a funky sexy style but you are in the middle of a field ... I just think its wrong maybe even an insult (IMHO)

Well when I do the shuffle, one foot slides while the other stomps or bounces, and there's a few jumps and bounces thrown in that don't involve slides or shuffling, and when I've got the energy, I throw in some spins and leaps. And my arms are constantly moving to the rhythm... Trance is the perfect music for the Shuffle IMHO, but each to his/her own...

well actually i must admit the shuffling is really designed for dancefloors at clubs .. listening to 4/4 beats.
and the talcum powder came out at warehouse raves to make it similar to the floor at a club ..
it just isnt the same thing shuffling around at a bush doof .. doesnt work ..
more stomping !!
though i was insisting on doing it because, well, for me its a fuckload more fun ! im used to it now, and its more energetic .. can 'go off' more .. you guys can bag me all you like until you see me going full pelt on a shiny, flat surface, and until you see some of the other dancers that i've seen here in melbourne that i aspire to someday be able to dance as well as.. then you'll appreciate it.
in the end, the shuffle, at the peak of a track, and at the peak of a speedbomb, hehe, is a big big force to be reckoned with, is near impossible to out-manouver, it becomes more than just feet shuffling, its a full body extreme movement - and step back before you get a foot to the head !
personally, i have a different style for each type of music -
trance i do one kind of thing, house - well, something similar but not quite .. breaks, something different again ..
and drum&bass .. i've heard a few times, uhh, you cant dance to this shit .. but i disagree totally .. drum&bass leaves open the most room for creativity. lots of jumping about ..
everyone dance how you like !
doesnt really matter .. in the end ..
as long as you're having fun.
B J - yeah, go up there and put on a show for the sydney peeps. though dont expect any respect - they may just find you amusing!!

Is guilty of trodding on people during my brisbane bounce
a special apology goes out to an innocent bloodmage who i accidently bounced on about 4 times on saturday and feel on twice, you should have just knocked me out boy, besides it should have been me standing against the wall because u do a better bounce then me (maybe because your bigger hehe)
Oh well I will hide my bounce until system 6 arrives

'just wait until this song is finished then i'll go :)'

I simply CAN NOT wait to show Perth people the "Melbourne Shuffle"...... at least, I think that's what I do??!
wink.gif

I think I may have a slight variation on the shuffle and the stomp, and maybe even a little bit of crazy legs thrown in when it's all going crazy - it's all good tho, and a great way to lose those extra kilos!!!
Perth....... watch out!!!

I think of my life as a series of sketches; each one funnier than the last

You think it's cool comparing Australian dance styles.
smile.gif

You should all see the dance styles in Europe! (Particularly in Germany)
I basically got into trance and everything while I was overseas last year and therefore have the dancing style of a german/australian/my own style...
biggrin.gif

The Germans tend to take up a lot of room and move around a lot
OR
they just tend to bounce around on the spot moving their arms very oddly in time to all the beats....Interesting stuff....
smile.gif

Needless to say, people gave me some very strange looks when I started dancing at BDO.....Fuck it! I didn't care!
smile.gif

Anyone else seen different dancing styles in Europe?

It's not what you see... it's what you believe you see. You can see if you believe.

Hahah that cracks me up. The melbourne shuffle. But it's more than s huffle and you have the scope to do so much more tricky stuff. A good mate of mine who knows proper classical dance (don't ask me how) said it's based on the "charlton" ??
Anyway I find if you're doin the melb shuffle (like we all do down here) on the offbeat you can throw your foot around the back and bounce off in the opposite direction, if it's done right it looks wicked. If it's done wrong you'll bounce into a hard object (wall/person/bouncer) and that looks.. err.. very bad
smile.gif

On a more comical note my first encounter with rave dancing was about 4 years ago in broad daylight outside the melbourne magistrates court. If anyone remembers that guy with the toy gun had been charged with possession of a firearm (legal loophole) and a crowd of doofers had set up decks and some big bassy spkrs outside the court to have a bit of a protest doof.. i was captivated by the beats from that moment on. just awesome..

sum1 came upto me once and asked if i was an aerobics instructor because my dancing was so energetic.. i feel rather odd dancing these days specially when i positivley know people are watching and wondering wtf is going on in my head

wink.gif

as far as i can see (except a friend of mine who seems to mimic me) i dance very diff from others.. i dunno maybe its just my egotistical mind getting 2 me again
smile.gif

can sum1 explain 2 me this talcum powder thing.. because when ever i goto SA or SA people come here (melbourne) for parties they dont understand the talcum powder.. personally i reckon its great (also stops ya slipping when its wet) but ive never seen it used at a adelaide party/club.... can anyone concur?
all i can say the funnest god damned thing in the world is the happy hardcore/gabber run/jog/jumpupndown.. there is nothing like beaming your face and doing the happy hard run at 8am in the morn

HAHAH this is a report from SINGAPORE mind you!!!
Went to this nice small little techno night at some place and the ppl there were doing what looked suspicioulsy like the melbourne shuffle.
Then later on...the WHOLE FREAKING PLACE looked like Bass Station all over again!!! (cept mebbe for certain things)
i just went OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG
See what u melbournites have done???
p.S. later found out that the some of the DJs studied in melbourne and most of the crowd happened to be from melbourne, students obviously back on holidays

we here in brisneyland try our very very best to get as close to a heart attack state with our dancing
wink.gif
fun and acrobatic... but fuck its tiring!!!

as some of you know or may not know.. im moved from sydney to brisbane... and yeah.. theres are difference in our styles, theres much more room on the brisbane dancefloor to throw yourself around... where as im used to elbows together punching style, conducting with a bit of a foot stomp.. that about sums it up.... brisbanites hop and skip around like crazy. Its like sleeping in a single bed all your life than one day owning a king size and find yourself huddled to one side...
i have to say i do feel wierd going off in my own way which is so different from everyone else... but hey where all here for the same reasons right???

and another thing i noticed... having such a small space to dance in sydney you dont move as much... hence less energy.. at first i couldnt quite werk out why the dance floor is never really that packed... brizzy people tend to go hard for a song or two then sit down for a rest.
By 3 in the morning i was 1 of three people on the dance floor.by this time the brissy ravers are all so tierd after moving every part of there body in a twisting skipping dance.
Doing the sydney "big box little box" you can usually go all night without sitting down...

The most popular dance at Sydney raves is definately what we affectionately call the Hammer Dance.
This is a very special style of dance that involves busting fat moves in the tradition started by the early 90s rapper M.C. Hammer. The most common of these moves is what I call the "running scissors". This can also be witnessed on Aerobics Oz Style.
The more ambitious Sydney dancers are able to perform a special variation of this dance where the legs are crossed at alternate sides whilst maintaining the scissor position.

MC Hammer dance in sydney?
I'm packing my bags and moving tommorow. MC Hammer is to dancing, what mozart is to music
wink.gif
.
But seriously, when i was 10, he ripped shit up like no other. I still secretly want to do the paracute pants/scissor/shaky legs thingo.
And yes, brisbane people need three times the space of anyone else to dance/bounce/spin whatever. If it's done well (ie if ur not watching me
smile.gif
), it looks quite good, albeit strange.
(the 3 o'clock thing is only based on a severe lack of good ol QLD speed.)

MC Hammer rocks it hard. *giggle thinking back to wacthing music vids in my PJ's*
As for me I cant dance without a metre diameter BARE MINIMUM. And yeah I agree that dance styles do and should change for different music styles.
Also does anyone else's dance style change throughout a night? (ignoring tiredness as a factor)
MC Hammer.. hehehe. PHAT pants. (but tight at the ankles)

Goosey, those very folks spreading the melbourne shuffle in singapore, i think i know some of them.
i believe there was even an event where 2 of my frens were made to dance on stage to "teach" the melbourne shuffle. altho this is hearsay, i cannot confirm. but it does fit into the picture.

I finally got to sample first hand some brisbane style dancing (tho only a small amount) and they definately do dance differently... There's the usual bunch who don't dance all that energetically, just the generic small movements everyone does when they're not trying to hard...
But then there's the good ol' brissy bounce, the jumping, bouncing, twisting style... hard to describe, but not at all comparable to the melbourne shuffle... Only got to see it done to trancy music, so next time I'll havta venture out where some faster harder music is being played (Byron didn't count, that was just a dodgy little party, wasn't paying much attention to the dancer's there).
I'd havto say the brissy style isn't all that hard to pick up, me and ICFML gave it a shot and I think we did pretty well...
We also ran into a guy doing the melbourne shuffle! Someone had brought along some talc and was shuffling away happily... Ah, made me all homesick 'n' stuff
wink.gif
...he was a cool guy too, had been to Melbourne a few times and just picked up the style and brought it back with him...

Perth
Some of my mates have some pretty unique dancing styles.
One of them is the standing still, eyes closed, and punching 1 fist into the air. We call this one the "Faggot Arms" dance.
Another one is the "Spastic Electrofied Scitzophrenic Chicken Dance", and i think that one pretty much explains itself. Watch out for them on vBoom!

aww man ... huge thread!...
so how many of u have stood at the front on stage and just did that rad composing for the whole crowd ...
thats the shit ... :P~

I doubt, therefore I might be.

Excuse my uninformativeness, but what is "shuffle, bounce, stomping"?
smile.gif

Also i'm trying to learn how to dance using more leg movements, but there is some issue - when i hear the music i KNOW that i need to do certain moves with legs but i cant find what those are
frown.gif

My upper body movement doing quite alright
smile.gif

Any ideas how i can express my feelings to music using lower body movements as well?
