General Methadone Discussion v. Why the Hell Not?

Yeah suboxone is not an option. At that high of a dose, it would take weeks of being sick, basically akin to full on cold turkey, before you stabilize on the bupe.

You say there's not enough time to set up a guest dosing plan, but you might as well try. Tell them your circumstances and maybe they'll take pity on you and fast track it. Or, tell the bosses at the job the truth, and hope they accept it and will maybe make some arrangement with you so you can still get time to go to the clinic. You take the risk of losing the job, but it sounds like that's probably going to happen anyway, so you might as well give it a shot.

It's a shitty situation, no doubt.

Didn't realize it was happening so soon, damn man best of luck to you.

Is it discrimination to fire someone because of methadone?

In most situations yes, but in certain lines of work medications with even the possibility of sedation can be considered a safety hazard...and in most lines of work I feel like they would just start putting everything you did under scrutiny until they created their reason to get rid of you.

And you say no dr in their right mind...what about one in a wrong one? There's bound to be a few of them left?! Lol, jk... But shit, as long as my mind is right then I don't care how I get it, I just need it to be legitish

Honestly, man.. I can not see a "legit" way for you to do this, other than getting a guest dose set up or telling the job and having them work with you. Any other way to get what you need to not be in withdrawal, whether it's methadone or another opiate, is going to be illegal.

It sucks to say, man, because you seem like a good guy.. but you're kind of fucked with little options. I wish I could help you, man.

You'd have to prove that was the actual reason why, and how would you really do that? An employer can say they fired you for any number of legit reasons, and good luck proving them wrong.

In certain instances though, if the work is deemed hazardous, for example work involved in driving a motor vehicle, operating heavy machinery, a firearm, etc, a company can justifiably fire somebody who is under the influence of powerful narcotic drugs that can impact their coordination and abilities to safely perform, even if they are a legitimate prescription.

It's still a tough issue though, all that kind of stuff is, as there is case law and precedent on both sides.

Does anyone know generally how long until methadone withdrawal fully kicks in and becomes debilitating?

By day 3 I'm sure it would be terrible and day 4 would be the day I would hang myself.

Why not take the boss aside and tell him what's up. To me that's better then suffering no job is worth that kind of suffering to me.

Usually 3-5 days.

Yeah man. For me personally, by day 2, I'm feeling like shit, by day 3 I'm in rough shape, and day 4... i don't even know what planet I'm on I am so sick.

I talked to the receptionist at the clinic and had to threaten to just quit and she said that they could try and set up an emergency guest dose for the week, but I will still have to see what time that clinic opens and take my own car to work and hope I can pull it off.
Also I have a meeting with the program director tomorrow, where I am going to beg if I have to to get the take homes...if that doesn't work, I'm gonna try and find some black market done I guess

The boss is kind of a dick...I don't generally have to have any contact with him so usually this isn't a problem, but in my first week or 2 on the job I think he would use it against me, because he doesn't really have any reason not too, I.e. He hasn't seen my work ability yet.

Good. That's the best play.

Good luck, man. Hope it works out. Let us know.

110mgs is probably too high for suboxone to work well.

I recollect this one wayback acquaintance who made the move from methadone to sub. He waited until day four then took the pill, 24mg throughout the first 24 hours. Ended up working out, I'll give him a ring and see what the methadone mg was.

----Apparently dude was on 60 mgs.

I switched from 20mg methadone to suboxone and it was painless. I waited 24 hours and all was well but I wasn't on a lot of 'done.

So welderman has a little conundrum. Today I go on afternoon shift 3:30pm to 2:30am. My clinic opens at 4:30am to 2;00pm and it's 30 miles from my house but near my work. There is a clinic a few miles from my house that I am gonna try and switch too. Has anyone ever changed clinics? I have clean ua's and one take home and should get another take home in a week or two. I hope I'll be able to transfer my clean time. The reason I haven't enrolled in this clinic yet is because it cost $270 for the intake. I'm gonna stop by the clinic maybe today before I go to work and ask all the questions I want answered but I figured this thread could use some discussion. I'll keep it updated in how smooth the process is.

^AFAIK when you change clinics you start at the bottom all over again with your take homes. Unless you luck out with a more permissive clinic that wants your money bad enough. Another example of letting the states and clinics decide how strict or permissive they want to be as long as they stay at or above the Federal minimum standards, which generally BTW are much less restrictive.Case in point is that there is no requirement by the Feds to test for marijuana yet many clinics do and a lot don't GAF,it's just the luck of the draw.I know I bitch about this a lot around here but the inconsistency of MMT and TH's from clinic to clinic and state to state really bugs me. W-man,make sure you know the score before you turn over one effin dime.Good Luck.

Yeah you usually don't get takehomes carried over to another clinic. Each one has their own specific policies regarding takehomes and whatnot, so you're going to have to start over.

I got lucky with the clinic I chose, just outside of Chicago. They don't test for THC & I don't think I'd be there if they did. When I started out on the program, I was sure I would kick in a couple of months & become a productive member of society. It's been almost three years now. It didn't go exactly as planned but at least I'm a productive member of society again. WDs are the worst experience I've ever had. Luckily now they are just a memory, just as long as I get my dose.
