^ it's all good kenickie, I did chose to ignore your warning after all
You may want to change the warning slightly though as one of the chars you mention is definitely still alive and kicking halfway through book 3.

i'm completely obsessed with this show.
but i don't want to start reading the books too soon, because i did that with true blood and now every little thing that is changed makes me pissed and i don't like the show as much.
so i don't wanna ruin this awesomeness haha.
also bothers me to no end the whole bastard nonsense. HIS FATHER IS A FUCKING LORD, why is that not good enough? WHY.
haha i eventually will, probably going to wait another season thoughI've read it once (years ago) and am now reading it again slowly (on book 2 now) and can say that the changes and differences aren't bad at all. I feel that HBO has done a fantastic job and it's actually fun to see what things they've had to do differently to make it work out. Conclusion: Read the books!!! :D
It's all about the line of succession. The power of the nobility comes directly from being able to say 'I'm the son of X and Y.' If a birth takes place outside of marriage, then there's a lot of potential for the true parentage to be blurred, not to mention the problems with then determining who inherits what.
In the books, there's a lot of mention of a previous king who legitimized his bastards on his deathbed, leading to a massive war for control of the kingdom.
oh and something random, with all the inbred lanisters, wouldn't they be like...mentally retarded? and deformed. i figured that's why the one lanister is a midget, but i thought that geoffrey should be a lot more...fucked up. i mean, he is the offspring of twins, that's a lot of messed up genes going on there lol. is there any indication in the books of the children of cersei and jaime being screwed up? or are they somehow perfectly functioning humans haha
