Gabapentinoids Gabapentin Megathread

I don't think so either. It's not known for being amnestic. And gabapentin tastes fucking awful. Horrible. You'd probably know if somebody put some in your drink. Especially at the amount it takes for it to even have an effect, let alone an amount that could *possibly* lead to black outs when combined with alcohol.

I was dopesick and had these as a safety net. I took 3.6 grams right away and an hour later I was set straight. Smoked some weed and went to the gym, when just two hours early I was hugging the toilet.

Held me all day and I woke up around 7am dopesick again. Staggered this dose and took 1.8 grams at a time an hour apart. About an hour or so later I started getting these weird brain zaps and jerking motions like my brain was skipping a beat. This has happened before if I take gaba for more than one dose subsequently, but I don't have a choice because it's all I have to hold me at the moment. I almost fell on my ass and nearly spilled water all over my laptop. My arms just jerk and I can feel my muscles doing it in my legs. When it happens your entire body just skips a beat.

Anyone else ever get that from neurontin?

That sounds like myoclonus. At high dosages gabapentin inhibits GABA release and activates low voltage gated calcium channels and can become convulsant. You're lucky you didn't have a full blown generalized seizure.

The 1.8 grams you staggered was a MUCH higher dosage than taking the 3.6 grams all at once due to the bioavailability issue with gabapentin. You should be more careful with your dosing if this has happened to you before as it isn't safe and can and will - eventually - lead to seizures and hospitalizations.

Yeah, if you took say 300mg every half hour, what it does is allow the full amount of the dose you take to get absorbed, so in theory, the full 3.6 grams would get absorbed. Now if you took it all at once it's bioavailability would allow it to only absorb around only 33%. The dosage you took isn't a lot. Which makes me wonder why you're getting those effects at such a low dosage, as a lot people do dose upwards of 3600mg - and that's staggered too. You must be particularly sensitive to it. Especially since you only split it in half and took 1.8 grams all at once, an hour apart.

Now that I know what it's called, I've definitely had myoclonus before. I get it sometimes if I get forced awake and don't get enough sleep. If I'm really tired it happens sometimes. I guess I am just vulnerable to it.

EDIT: Tramadol made this happen once too, now that I remember. Maybe its a serotonin issue?

It's quite common surrounding sleep activity.

Tramadol is quite notorious for causing seizures. It's activity at the 5-HT2C receptors is what mediates this, so it's likely it's definitely serotonergic with tramadol. It also possesses noradrenergic activity on it's own though (in addition to indirectly disinhibiting norepinephrine release via the 5-HT2C receptors), and this could be an additional mechanism.

But with gabapentin, it's the "deinactivation" of the low voltage gated calcium channels and subsequent depolarizations that release glutamate and norepinephrine that are responsible for your myoclonus on this medication.

Has anyone experienced a permanent lump in throat anxiety during gabapentin WD?

What about weight loss? In me gabapentin caused drastic weight gain, so I hope getting off of it will result in weight loss.

^ IWD, after reading through this thread you probably will experience weight loss in wd.

Speaking of which, I just read through this thread. Never had gabapentin in my life before a few days ago diagnosed with shingles. There is a nerve pain in my back that wakes me up in the middle of the night. Horrible. But 300- 600 mgs of gabapentin really helps. So I have been taking it the last 5 days only at night in those low doses. I do not want to get addicted to it, so I am hoping such low doses for a week or two let me just walk away at the end. For now I have to utilize them.

Great info from experienced users here. It for sure is making me very cautious on using these since I am not a long term pain patient. Just temporarily so this thread was valuable to me in making sure I don't end up on it for years. So far, at these low doses it really really helps with that nerve pain. So cautious I will be. I may not have been as cautious if I didn't read this thread. Thanks for sparing me from some possible addiction that could have developed.

Gabapentin will not really not like to cause an addiction per se. It is not like cocaine or opioids. It is likely to cause physical dependence Physical dependence is just a state of physical adaptation your body develops towards a drug, it is not an addiction.

But psychological dependence can happen with any psychotropic medication, as well.

Best to take gabapentin like phenibut. 2 days on and 3 days offor u run in tolerance issues and then risk withdrawal when stopping. The tolerance spoke with gabapentin is even more extreme than phenibut.

Yeah, tolerance is a bitch.

I've just kicked heroin again painlessly, all thanks to gaba and nothing else. Problem is now I'm at a week of taking gaba every day at 2g minimum daily, usually more. Thinking about ordering tianeptine or something because I need to fill that "void" with something, and my gaba tolerance at the moment doesn't make it a viable option.

Id stop taking the gaba before you get dependent on that. Then youll be hooked on something that is worthless due to tolerance but still has a nasty withdrawal

I have been on gabapentin for about a month and I keep experiencing diarrhea. Does anyone know if this will ever subside? It's becoming very badgering.

I got 50 of these from the doc for nerve pain a couple weeks back. Slight mood lift at 900- 1500mg, I noticed i was talking more excitedly and on end about things. I also tried up to 3000mg which caused sedation. Maybe like a low dose benzo 5mg diazepam perhaps. But really has no recreational potential.. The best those 6 pills will do will give a mild mood lift which i doubt you'l notice if your trying to get a high on

This is the most accurate, as far as my experiences go. I get the 800mg pill Rx'd and only take 2 instead of the 4 I can if I need to. I find that these help with my pain quite a bit. But I usually take them when I don't want to take my opiate medication and it really helps with the pain and the withdrawal symptoms. Also, it will probably help to uplift your mood, I find that it can do this if you are feeling a bit down. It is actually used off label as a mood stabilizer. But, it is not a recreational drug and I don't think you should even try to get any type of high out of it. K, bud? Good luck and stay safe.

Loose stool is a common adverse effect of gabapentin, especially when taken in high doses.
