Gabapentinoids Gabapentin Megathread

Nah you're good.

For me, I know they are working when I start to stumble around drunkenly, you also get decent CEVs on higher doses.

This calms me as I have a serious and real fear of having another seizure. (First Grand Mal wasn't Gaba related).

It's just so hard not to binge :(

I used to get CEVS from gabapentin when I first started staggering. I did 300mg every half hour until I got to 2700mg and didn't get CEVS until around the 8hr mark. I don't anymore. Has this happened to anyone else?

And has anybody staggered their gabapentin for a considerable dose like upwards of 5, 6, 7 grams (or even a small dose like 300 or 400 all day) throughout the day? If so what was it like, and what effects did you get 8 and 12 even 16 hours into it?

It is consistent in its inconsistency in many regards. Thankfully, it always takes the majority of WDs away, but after I've been using gaba for 2-3 days daily, I stop getting any rec effects from it, no matter how big a dose I take. Then other times, it'll just hit me out of nowhere and I'll be seeing double.

I've been taking GABA for a few years now (though I never felt anything so mostly I just ended up stock piling them and giving them away). Lately I've only been taking 4 300mg with a 1mg Ativan so I can sleep however a couple of days ago after I ran out of Vic I decided to try 8 300mg chased with a shot of DXM. Fucked me up for hours. I have a pretty decent stash of GABA so today I'm trying 10 300mg without the DXM.

Does anyone get muscle twitches from higher doses of GABA?

I've been jumping all over w/ Suboxone.

I stayed on it steady for 6 months (for seizures) @ 1600/MG/day. I sometimes would feel "good" in the early stages but wore off quick (I was also on Suboxone and Keppra).

just recently I decided to kick the GABA and have it for "good times"; meaning ill take 3200/MG one day rather than just take it steady every day. yes, this is the "druggie" coming out of me and trying to stop my own seizure meds (I have a brain tumor).

anyway, I felt it was easy to kick although many had horrible stories. but again, I am scripted a lot of other drugs, so that surly helped.

since being off GABA for the last 2 weeks I feel "normal". as if nothing has changed. just yesterday I took 4000/MG of GABA in the morning and had a good day. not sure if it was a GABA good day or maybe it was just a bit more sunny than it has been around here in MA; its been snowing/raining the other day was a beautiful, sunny day. so maybe the GABA changed the weather that day, lol.

Yeah I never had a hard time coming off of gabapentin, nothing like benzo's IME though I don't doubt others suffering. This drug is weird when I first started taking it, it felt exactly like alprazolam to me, then it changed to kind of feeling like being stoned off THC and drunk at the same time with shutter vision which I find super unpleasant.

I've had positive experiences with Gabapentin in the past. I tried a few times when I first got on MMT
and noticed a strange effect even before taking my daily methadone dose. It must be different for everyone
because my sister was prescribed the stuff and had no interest in it whatsoever, didn't seem to 'feel anything'.
I suppose I'm one of those types that do, lol. For me, it is a somewhat speedy yet strangely relaxed feeling. Not
so much 'high' but more sociable and it seemed to synergize quite well with opiates, or synthetic opioids anyway(Meth)

curious about gabapentin bioavailability - apologies if this has been answered or if it happens to be a foolish question -

i read some anecdotes stating the best way to optimize gabapentin bioavailability is to take the drug in small incremental doses approx 45 minutes apart. also read something about taking it with a high fat meal. what is considered a small dose? 300mg - 600mg?

assuming this info is accurate and its water soluble;

a good way to take this med would be to dissolve it in water, pour into milkshake, then proceed to drink the milkshake while eating a peanut butter sandwich - correct?

thanks

Sup Sigmond :)

You are talking to a gaba junkie and I've been on it for about five years now unfortunately. Its a hella dependency for me and I get terrible withdrawals even when making small cuts/tapers. I've taken it many different ways, but after five years this med doesn't effect me the same as it once did.

Are you taking it therapeutically or recreationally? I think you are overthinking it a bit tbh. I do stagger my doses sometimes if i am feeling extra anxious. I have a whole bunch of issues but this is the only med I take for them. I usually take the 900 mg all at once and im fine. Sometimes i stagger but sometimes I don't have the time. I know that's considered a waste to some but it works better than 600 mg at once for me. 600 mg at once will wake me up at night bc of wd. fun stuff.

A small dose would be 100-300 mg. Medium dose 600-900. high dose - 1g or more. with no tolerance 6-800 mg would be sufficient. I am prescribed 900 a day now but have been on 3600 a day. Didn't do much more for me on the higher dose, but I always took it all at once. It is water soluble.

45 min might be ideal but 15-20 min works fine. You will only get a buzz for the first couple weeks but mainly the first few days. I don't think that's related to absorption just how it works. don't worry about the meals so much but it might work better. but even if i take it all at once im fine.

After 5 years i get a buzz now but for a long time i didn't. not the same buzz tho. 8(

Theres also this thread for reference.

thank you for taking the time to post that; very informative and helpful. taking it therapeutically and just wanted to get the optimal effect per/mg.

in my experiance taking them all at once works better than waiting. I once popped 10 in a day but didn't feel "higher" the more I kept popping them. but after you take them your stool will be more relaxed too if you know what I mean :)

no problem.

I think its a good drug and I can't deny that it helps me a lot. I get no side effects but I think it has affected my cognition to some degree but I've been on it five years.

You should know that it does have a pretty shitty withdrawal and some people have a really hard time coming off of it. Can be as bad as benzos. Some describe it as a combination of opiate and benzo withdrawal. It is pretty bad for some people and I've known a few that have suffered for over a year. Some people don't get withdrawals. But it all depends on how long you've been on it and the dose you were on and your own individual biochemistry. I would take breaks to avoid dependency if I could do it over again. I get totally destabilized if I cut my dose but I have other issues going on but i am pretty seriously dependent on it. I do think it works well for me though so Im not trying to scare you but i think thats something people should know. bc withdrawal from these drugs can be serious shiz that can take a while to heal from if you are unlucky. sometimes it takes longer than a couple months.

It can deplete magnesium levels as well. I would supplement with magnesium glycinate or something with a good bio availability. they both are calcium channel blockers and they can compete. you don't want to take them at the same time or it will mess with absorption.

I do think it is a good drug but I just wanted you to be aware of that.

Gabapentin has a fucking nasty dependency for sure. I ran out last month with this silly idea that I could just replace the gaba with kolonopin. Yeah that didn't work out so well and I ended up having to calling my doctor for an early refill. He of course had no problem with this as he keeps saying "gabapentin isn't abusable". lol

I posted this in it's own thread, but figured the major "gabapentin" thread would get more coverage

Ok, long story short, I had a MILD addiction to Oxycodone variants for like a month period. I WD'd and and got clean, but thought I could chip away at once a week. well, I found out the hard way that once you're hooded you're pretty much alway hooked if you take doses too close together. I noticed I took 3 doses in a one week period and I kick started some mild symptoms (pretty much confirming I can't ever take opiates again)... I don't have it bad at all since it was very mild symptoms. just some nasty full body RLS that has been frustrating (since monday night)... I took some flexeril monday and tuesday and they worked like a charm for RLS but made me foggy as hell. I forgot I had some gabapentin lying around (300 mg pills) from my old doctor and started on a "2 in the morning, 3 at night" regime yesterday and "BOOM" all RLS signs gone till today when they crept back (and I took 2 in the morning to ease those away). my question is... how long should I take the gaba for? I DON'T want to gain an addiction to those cuz I hear the rebound symtpoms are NASTY... basically should I quit after 4 days use? 7 days use? etc... and should I taper off after the 4-7 days down to one pill a night or just quit cold turkey? I like that they fix my RLS so that I can function in teh day and sleep at night, but under no circumstances do I want to trade another addiction.

No, you will not catch a buzz off of only 600mg if you've been on them for 2 years. I've been taking them for 12 years, and I have to take at least 7 or 8 grams at once (on rare occasions) to get high on it.

I was originally scripted 900mg/day gabapentin for anxiety and akathisia. first few days felt more relaxed, less anxious, then nothing. went up to 1800mg/day ...nothing. I started to try and get off of it after 2 weeks on it since it wasn't helping my anxiety and although my overall impression of the withdrawal wasn't crippling I couldn't handle the akathisia so I went back on it. fucking akathisia. hate that shit, it fucks me up.

Can Gabapentin make you black out if taken while intoxicated? Not pass out but still be walking around and conscious? I did this recently and i fear my roomate might of slipped it into my drink, but i found a baggy of them stashed. I don't do anything asides from drinking and i am in good health, even had a full mri and ct.
