Was good, but unfortunately it had been moved to Club Exit which meant 18+ and no smoking. Did you go?

Nah.. once we got to club exit we could tell just by how the bouncers were treating us that it was not an atmosphere we wanted to pay 20 bucks to be in so just said fuck it and went to some bars.. really lame that it was moved at the last minute

Yep, bouncers sucked and some people even got turned away at the door ("You don't look good!"). Gonna avoid the Exit for the next months, still had a great time.
In general, I feel the NYC rave scene is pretty huge, This weekend alone there are like 3-6 cool events.

used to go to a lot of parties in NYC..especially at All of the Brass Monkey parties ..Boo And parties at the Octagon were freakin sick!!!

word all the monkey parties were off the hook
i still got my ticket stub from the first brass monkey in 96
shit they even had a snow machine going
i left there and was like that was fucking awesome

uptown underground <3

What's BTS?

when i was going out alot in the mid 90's
they were a gang called the brooklyn thug squad or brooklyn terror squad
they used to rob pretty much everyone at parties and clubs,
they would roll up like 20 -30 peeps catch you in the bathroom, take all your shit, money, whatever you had that was worth something

damn i just googled them heres what i found

BTS is an acronym for one of several names: Born to Scheme, Beat the System, Brooklyn Thug Squad, and Brooklyn Terror Squad, mostly. They were a ~100-strong group of ecstasy dealers based in New York City whose tactics involved going to raves, selling ecstasy, robbing other ecstasy dealers and selling their drugs too, breaking into cars, backpacks, handbags, etc. and stealing money, holding up candy ravers, and eventually stabbing people.

I first heard of BTS during the summer of 2000 while talking to a friend of mine from high school over AIM. I had heard that he had gotten into parties so I talked to him about techno and stuff, and he told me he was going down to New York to visit his brother. He asked me if I had ever heard of BTS, and I said no. He told me they were a bunch of people who beat up ravers and break into cars. "they suck!!!" was his exact phrasing, if I remember correctly.

It wasn't until the following January that I heard the term again. I had gone down to Connecticut for my friend's 20th birthday party, and someone called one of his friends asking for directions to the place. After he got off the phone, he was asked who the caller was, to the response of "I don't know." Someone said, "I'll bet you just gave BTS directions to the party, you goober."

I asked what BTS was, remembering the discussion with my high school friend, and they were in fact the same people.

Over the next several months, I put myself on the discussion mailing list for my friend's NYC raver tribe-thingy, and there were several mentions of bad things for which the BTS responsible. By June, an illegal party under the George Washington Bridge had ended with the stabbing of a partygoer by a suspected BTS member. Eventually, a group called BTSwatch was created to disseminate pictures of alleged members.

In June 2001, the group was supposedly dissolved by federal authorities. This is from USA Today (http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2001-05-16-ecstasy-usat.htm): "In June, Drug Enforcement Administration and U.S. Customs agents in New York dismantled a gang that traveled from rave to rave, shaking down suburban kids who were high on Ecstasy. The gang, which called itself the Brooklyn Terror Squad, or BTS, 'terrorized rave parties throughout the Eastern seaboard and in Florida,' says Linda Lacewell, an assistant U.S. attorney in New York. The gang beat up and robbed ravers, stole their drugs and then resold them at the same parties, she says. Ten gang members have pleaded guilty to various drug charges and are awaiting sentencing.

From what i hear from friends the Drum and Bass scene is pretty big
lots of underground parties and warehouse events

nothing big like SoCal has though

dnb in nyc kinda sucks at the moment tbh. The venues have been getting more shit. I dunno where you heard it's big but it's really not. Maybe a weekly but no good big names at decent venues anymore. Still waiting....

*edit* The orginal post talking about the 'rave scence' it's kind of gone tbh. I was talking more about the club dnb events, which have fallen off at the moment.

There's gonna be an underground warehouse event on the 25th. - Let me know if you want to know the location.

i wish there was more of a scene where i live,
i don't live far from NY so i wouldn't mind traveling,
how can i get more in the know about some ravess

:)

Check out the club called Love when they are having their dubwar parties.

Not a rave but definitely the same feeling and same crowd. No bullshit egos, no one trying to impress anyone.

*edit*

Keep an eye out for outlaw parties also, there are a few good ones coming up.

Maskarave in october also. If you don't know about maskarave, it was one of the first big yearly raves in the US.

BTS is still around and still doing their retarded shit. I was at a party and someone told be not to buy any white motorolas because they were bunk and people were puking off them. I went over to another guy that night who I was an acquaintance with and mentioned it to him and he laughed and said he was running with BTS and he was selling those very pills. Then he walked off and started shouting "ACID ACID, GET YOUR ACID" while waving a couple sheets in the air. I didn't really talk to him again after that, apparently he was selling to support his smack habit of a bundle a day.

Also there has been other parties lately, I'm told by a friend, rave-style things held illegally but with more diverse kinds of live music, closer to the party crowd of ye old days.
