Florida anti-pot leader says weed makes you gay, leads to AIDS (seriously)

^Haha I'll take your word for it.

Give us some more of those 80s HIV studies, they're fascinating glimpses into the past.

As for the harm caused by reactionary anti-drug zealots; you have been posting here too long to play dumb on that one.
You know full well what harms are caused by legal persecution of drug users.

"Everyone is part of a minority"?
Yeah, like wealthy, white, male republicans. A fine example of oppressed human beings.

Even if drugs did change people's sexual orientation (a baseless claim) - do you think this is a bad thing?

Actually I was talking about drugs. Novel idea. Don't want to turn this into gay-fest '14, however, this is some great reading material:

So, you enjoyed reading a trip report where a heterosexual man allowed his cock to be sucked by another man - all because the crack he smoked lowered his inhibitions towards such sexual activity? Or are you homophobic?

Based on the evidence found, this article is counter intelligence and written to "support" the drug movement.

I think that drugs have an influence on a person. It is within reason to assume that a person can become gay from environmental influence. That is the only issue that needs to be dealt with. I think the statement Carlton made is within reason.

I think what the article avoids doing is debating Carlton, who I assume has managed other thoughts than, "Drugs make people gay. Gay is bad. Drugs are bad.", in the last 30 years; especially since he never said such a thing.

'Counter intelligence'?
That sounds like LE speak to me.
Just sayin'.
"Drug movement" - MMJ advocates?
Sounds like trolling to me.
Piffle.

Homosexuals are more likely to use drugs such as marijuana and MDMA, but I don't think a causal relationship is clear. A lot of drugs can lower inhibitions, though, making homosexual encounters more likely I guess.

Someone cannot become a homosexual from environmental influence. I'm sure if you were high enough from injecting meth you would lick a clitorus but that doesn't mean it turned you into a dyke.

However, if you were in denial of your lesbianism due to your backwards religious beliefs you might act on your suppressed urges while high.

There a distinct group of people that are native homosexuals and a person has no choice in acting upon desire?

Seems like it deserves a bit of a discussion. There are two ways to define homosexuality.

Yes. Nature and nurture can both be contributors. Human beings are born before their brains are fully developed. People have developed complete personality changes even after maturity.

I don't dispute that

.
Thank god for that!

Prison, complete personality changes: I always assumed that they were actually gay etc. beforehand, but hadn't come out.
Or that they simply took advantage of a situation , probably including the fact that they and were originally gay- (etc) curious.
I think of sexuality as a continuum, and therefore that few people are 100% straight or 100% homosexual, but that most repress or hide some portion in order to appear to be 100% in order to fit in.

In the case of prison, I've heard it's more about dominance (rape) and a lack of potential female partners than true homosexuality.

Given that men and women look somewhat similar, and we seem to evaluate everyone of both genders by their appearance, this isn't too hard to swallow. The homosexual experimentation that some people engage in is another support for this concept.

For my part, I certainly feel something when I see an attractive man. It just pales in comparison to a woman with any sort of decent appearance.

Nsa,
Weed Could Block H.I.V.’s Spread. No, Seriously.

But the U.S. Government won’t let scientists try out this promising treatment on humans.

It wasn’t the groundbreaking research they’d just heard—proving the ability of THC, one of the active ingredients in marijuana, to stave off HIV (or SIV in monkeys)—that did it. Nor was it the author of the study, Dr. Patricia E. Molina, who had them laughing. It was the rogue researcher daring enough to taint the victory with a harsh dose of reality: “What’s next, testing this on humans?

As the laughter subsided and the gravity of Dr. Molina’s results sank in, reality did too. THC is one of 500 active ingredients in marijuana. And marijuana, despite many studies proving its medical value, is sill classified by the government as a Schedule I Substance. In the face of mounting evidence that it is beneficial in treating diseases ranging from alzheimer’s and multiple sclerosis, it remains a controlled substance. The joke wasn’t funny so much as painfully true: Proving that an illegal drug can stop a deadly disease in humans—without testing it on them—is impossible.

Carlton Turner and Herbert Goldstein: Research doesn't support use of medical marijuana

by Carlton Turner and Herbert Goldstein | April 18, 2013

...
THC is the one chemical that most people associate with marijuana. It is an intoxicant with some medical properties. Marijuana is not just THC. Pure THC is a prescribed medication that has passed rigid Food and Drug Administration requirements to protect public health; whereas, marijuana will never pass any approval process.

....and with the above post, you have highlighted the hypocrisy of prohibition.
Cocaine and a variety opiates are used in medicine. Nobody is trying to take morphine away from terminally ill people.
Well, some overzealous ideologue probably is; there are certainly "opiophobic" nations where narcotics are rarely used in medicine.

I guess if your misguided "beliefs" are more important in your worldview than human suffering, you can probably justify this nasty old fucker's campaigning.
It's extremely selfish and lacking in compassion; but if that is how you think, there's probably nothing you can do to change.
History will not be kind to this clown and his ilk; personally I think it is high time he/they shuffled off this mortal coil and allowed human ideas to evolve.
The people that are responsible for the horrors (and unrepentant lies) of prohibition have caused enough pain, damaged enough lives and communities.

People are entitled to their beliefs, whatever they may be; but when powerful fundamentalist Christians (or any other no-fun fundamentalists, for that matter) start pushing their "pleasure = sin, therefore pleasurable acts must be banned, punished and dismissed as wrong" - that is when the community needs to push back.
