film: the village

the new m. night shyamalan film coming out july 30th
the trailer sounds exciting and i love the air of darkness that follows around jaoquin phoenix... looks like ill check it out

- Covington Pennsylvania is a nice quiet town surrounded by a beautiful forest where strange, and unseen creatures live. The people of Covington have a small, yet essential agreement with these creatures. Do not to come to our village, we will not come to your woods. It's as simple as that. But Lucius, one of the townfolk, realizes it's not fair to be completely confined to the town, and goes into the woods for something no one knows about. Not long after, the town is under attack. Red blood slashes are found on the doors all over the village, and pretty soon, the creatures have agreed with Lucius. Why stay in the woods when there's a village to be explored, and people to be hunted.

from the commercials and the trailer you find out more details not in this summery

I really Don't like M. Night's movies, but this one seems more interesting than the other big three. I'll def. wait and see how the poll here pans out, but right now i'm really on the fence.

I have free pass to see this tomm night, before it comes out on Friday. I'll let you know! I personally think it's going to be great. Joaquin Phoenix is one of my favorite actors.

At the very least, it can't possibly be worse than Unbreakable. ;)

I have a feeling its one of those movies that looks good in the previews but ends up sucking.

I dont know for sure tho ;)

I liked Unbreakable... but I was a comic geek as a kid.

I'm looking forward to this new one... MNS has always entertained me. His movies have been the only one's so far that I haven't been able to figure out the end within the first 15 to 30 minutes.

unbreakable

one guy (bruce willis) survives a crash and is slowly shown by elijah, (samual jackson) the man pretty much made of glass who falls ill and is injured at a bump in the wrong direction, that they are two in the same at opposite sides of the line.
good actors; disappointing pretty much else- imo
also paralells the good/bad theme and good guy-super hero/bad guy-villiam comic book theme

Unbreakable was so fuckin quite I could barely hear a word anyone said. I had my TV twice as loud as it normally is and still had trouble making out what was being said. I noticed that Signs seemed to be kind of quite too, all though not as bad as Unbreakable. I remember the scene in the beginning when Bruce Willis is talking to some guys about how he survived the accident, and I honestly couldn't hear any of it. It got to be annoying as fuck after about 5 minutes. I don't think I even finished watching the movie now that I think about it. I figure that the movie had to have enough of a budget that they could've afforded to get some half decent audio work done.

Oh god no, if the spoiler I read on this other site it true, this is going to suck majorly. :(

I hope it's not true, because I was looking forward to seeing a scary movie.

If you wanna pm me the info, I can confirm or deny it for you, if you really want to be spoiled.

Saw this tonight. I am not going to say a whole lot about it, partly because that's just not very sporting, but mainly because I had to sign a confidentiality agreement and give them a copy of my driver's license.

I am still iffy about this movie. Compared to the dreck that most movies are, it was genius. Compared to other M. Night films, however, well... it's not the worst one ever. (That honor is still held by Unbreakable.) It has a very, *very* slow beginning. There is a twist, of course, everyone knows there would be, but it seemed to come much too early compared to the length of movie you still had to watch afterwards.

A lot of glaringly obvious continuity errors as well. For somebody who is so protective of their work, you would think things that big wouldn't get by him.

Out of the four of us who attended, 2 absolutely thought it was the worst movie ever. One said it was ok, and I say it's alright. I give it 2 out of 4 stars.

You had to sign a confidentiality agreement on the night before the film is to be released?

I'm kind of curious about this spoiler.

Care to share, BA, anybody? :)

I read a review on CNN ( the only one i read) that said it was his best one yet. I agree with the above, Unbreakable totally sucked, totally an unforgettable movie, I think.

I didn't really care for Signs, either.

Yuck, 2/4 stars is not making me want to see this at all - Would you recommend it, Daisybabe?

Yeah, I thought it was really ridiculous. I could understand if I had seen this movie at a preview say, two weeks ago or something. I am wondering now if it wasn't all just for show, to preserve the sense of secrecy he cultivates.

That's a tough one. I probably would say yes, because it was a good movie and had some scary parts. But then, once you discover the secret, you feel let down and foolish for believing any of it to begin with.

Daisybabe, after reading your review/thoughts of this film, i]I am now glad that I don't have a babysitter in the area and won't be able to see this for a bit.

Thanks for saving me the hassle of trying to find someone ;)

This movie sucked! I feel cheated. It was a classic bait and switch. Don't waste your money.

I am going to post the spolier I read in white print.
If you want to read it, highlight it with you mouse. Otherwise, don't bitch! :)

Start here:

"The Village" is about a bunch of family's who pretend to live in the late 1700's.. but it's all bullshit. They're just a bunch of freaks who tell their kids that the woods are full of monsters so they don't stray from the "pretend life" they created because they couldn't hack the outside world.. However, you (and the town's dumb ass children) don't realize it's all pretend...(I figured it out half way through). The audience becomes aware of the scam after some hot blind bitch decides she has to walk through the "monster filled" woods to get medicine for her asshole boyfriend in order to save the dudes life. Eventually she walks out to the road and surprise suprise.. It's not 1700.. It's 2004!

End here.

Is this true?
