let's not drag this off-topic. hisnameisfrank, you are as entitled to say that you rate movies you haven't even seen yet to cause ripples as vibby and i are to tell you we think it's lame and pointless.

let's just not do it here - in this awesome batman thread.

Agreed. On that note, I'm going to see it in a couple of hours. I can't wait!

wow! totally awesome! :)

we didn't get to see it in imax, though. all viewings were sold out tonight. but, when the bf returns, we're definitely going to order tickets ahead of time and check it out again.

Wow!

Officially blown away I am. I want to talk about so much that happened in the movie that I wouldn't even know where to begin. Someone said that the previews really don't give much of the movie away. So true. The title The Dark Knight is a very apt title for it.

I love the unexpected horror movie element. The Joker was Hannibal Lecter, Freddy Krueger and Jaws all wrapped up into one sadistic villain. That nowhere near does him justice though. (INSERT WELL-DESERVED HEATH LEDGER PRAISE HERE)

I'll shut up now, spoiler-free. Just see it if you haven't already. Just fucking wow.

jokers drug of choice would be Cocaine I believe.

Plus he could use his cards to cut up the lines ;)

For a psychedelic he would probably choose something a bit darker so Id say shrooms.

I disagree. Cocaine gives one a sense of ego, and self importance. Joker wasn't like this. He cared more about the cause than himself. He wanted chaos and anarchy in the world. He is an anarchist. He wanted to "watch the world burn."

He's not loud (for the sake of it) and cocky or stupid. For example,

Illustrative of the point, is the scene where Joker is conversing with Harvey Dent (with burnt off face), and Joker places his gun into Dent's hand and cocks it at his own head, letting Dent decide whether to kill him or not. The act does not seem egoistic at all, I believe he was doing this to influence Dent into a total moral collapse, which would contribute to Joker's vision of a chaotic world (as Dent was a symbol for justice and order). Joker saw the cause as more important than himself, just as Batman saw the cause of justice as more important than himself when he made himself a scape goat for Dent.

This is why Two Face is in the movie. Two faces, justice and chaos. Batman and Joker.

Saved. I loved this scene.

today i had a flashback to enjoying the "so you want to turn your head" quip.

... i agree with the few people here who were a little disappointed. i got bored, and think a lot of the scenes could have been shortened without losing any momentum. the batman voice bugged the crap out of me, Maggie Gyllenhaal's character annoyed me, and some of the action scenes were almost too busy. but that's usually my complaint about action movies; when there's that much going on at once, i really have a hard time following what is supposed to be occurring. i'm guessing that's my problem and not the movies, based on the cash this thing is pulling in.

if you think Maggie Gyllenhaal was a bust just think back to Katie Holmes in the initial Batman. Maggie is by far the lesser of two evils. the only knock on Christopher Nolan that I really have is that his action scenes are always a bit lacking. however, he got away with mediocre action scenes in the Dark Knight because his character development was just so strong.

Bale turned in an even weaker performance than he did in "Begins", and Michael Kanes cockney accent was a distraction. The action scenes were too jumpy, and not as realistic as they could have been. Another reviewer suggested that the producers should have gotten the same choreographers that did the Bourne movie fight sequences. THOSE were impressive fights.

regarding Bale's weak(er) preformance... yeah, it was weak. honestly I would never, EVER go into a Batman film and expect the actor who is playing Batman to give the performance of the century. it's fucking Batman, he is a very one-sided character both as Batman and Bruce Wayne.

anyways, I will stop vehemently defending this movie. I have expressed already that it may be my newest favorite movie of all time.

hey you don't have to defend Maggie to me, I thought she was good enough. what's lame about most comics books not titled Wonder Woman is that most females just play the damsel in distress role. she was leaps and bounds better than Katie Holmes, who made my gut cringe most times in Batman Begins.

rachel dawes had some pretty sweet lines in both films, but both actresses resorted to the grinning idiot look far too much. i got tired of the character.

and i was extremely pleased with her demise

but you're all right, maggie >>>>>>>> kate with her fugly talk out the the side of her mouth and grin no matter what emotion she is meat to show bit. she looks like she has had plastic surgery to only one half of her face. .... come to think of it, she may have been ideal to pair up with the two faxe character ;)

I totally digg Maggie Gyllenhaal but there was something very off-putting about her in this movie. I guess I just pictured her, and her charcter a preen and refined, worldy woman. She ended up looking kinda scraggly. As did her characters disposition IMO, which makes me question her choice as an actress. I would like to feel like she could have shone as the bright star that she is (I mean bright to say that she is smart in her profession and her illuminating beauty) Its like she wanted to give one person the spotlight, so she consciencelessly took a backseat to developing a persona. There was dichotomy in all the other charcters that hers I felt was lacking. And she didn't even look good doing it! My friend even said "She looks like she just had a baby, like a day before this was filmed!"

However, aside from Christian Bale's atrocious and annoying Batman voice, the dissapointments end there for me.

My favorite character I guess you could say is sweet home Chicago! That was the main reason I went to see it and also why I would pay to see it again in the theater. IMAX would KICKASS and if it is still playing when I go to Oahu I'm for sure going! Aside from the fact that Chicago is my home that I miss very much, and that I got to catch them filming, and that some of my friends were extras (but I didnt see them) I ALSO think it was the best choice for Gotham City :) Elegant, mysterious, BEAUTIFUL

And then of course Heath Ledger. Acting aside-and I really hate to be this chick-but he was fucking HOT!! I seriously wet myself in some scenes...I mean as the Joker no less?! That is a GOOD-looking man we've lost..........

God this movie is amazing. I've seen it twice, and it was equally great the second time.

I might actually go see this movie. I haven't been to the movies since Ghost Rider came out, and I thought that movie sucked. But I have heard so much about DK that I really can't stand my own curiosity about it anymore...it's become an itch that MUST be scratched. :-)
