Woah! My sleep pattern had been affected ever since I saw there would be another movie & then seeing Ledger in the Joker make-up caused me to spiral out of control even further with pure excitement.

I saw it last night & was blown away. All characters were great & well cast, but the one person who stole the show completely was Heath Ledger. Every scene with him commanded your attention & it is hard to imagine still being sane after filming had finished. No wonder he had bother sleeping.

The image of the Joker walking away from the hospital in the nurses uniform, all bow legged & with a strange limp will forever be imprinted on my mind. Stopping to press the faulty button a heap of times with a slight irritation, followed by the mother of all explosions could well be one of my favourite movie scenes for a good while =D

RIP in dude, what an incredible finale. :|

fuck, cletus... of COURSE that was the highlight! =D

that put the disappearing pencil trick into perspective, somewhat. ;)

^
I liked the disappearing pencil trick because it was so quick and unexpected. It had the whole cinema laughing. As did a number of scenes with the Joker. I think this was good as it did become a rather intense movie, so without these moments of release it might have been almost unbearable (for some).

he also says that he doesn't have plans, which is obviosusly false
he may improvise, but around a central plan

Yea I thought this as well.

I believe that the two differing versions of the story of how he got his scars were shown early on in the movie to show that what he says is more about manipulating people or causing some sort of impact rather than conveying factual information.

of course. he was the joker. so he was joking. :)

i did wonder about that myself at the time. i thought he told 3 different stories, but i could be wrong. :)

i read somewhere that they purposely left out any real hints to the jokers origins in order to keep the character "absolute".

so the scar stories, to me, were just fucking with people. to me it also shows that it may be part of his schtick, his method, his act.

The mystery is one of the best parts of the character. So many super hero movies these days are so concerned with origins and beginnings. I love the fact that there was no real attempt to explain where The Joker came from.

^you didn't think it was too graphic for your kids? I don't know if mine have seen it yet, cuz they're with their dad at the moment, but i think some of the stuff would be disturbing for them. and they're older than yours. i'm sure he'll take them, though, if he hasn't already. just wanted to know how yours handled it...
no not at all, i don't limit violence nor sex unless it is certain types...i.e. rapes, or simply strangely twisted. kids are unfortunately a little numb to movie and gaming violence nowadays.

i have left the theater once or twice in a movie...can't recall which ones i found to be unnacceptable, but this didn't bother me in any way. when i have made comments about movies at times, if something was on that seemed a little wierd, they always look at me funny and say "it is just a movie mommy, duh" or "it's not real" :| seeing as though this is a comic book based fiction, it is easier to accept the violence, more so than a realistic drama, know what i mean??

anyway, no, i didn't find this one inappropriate.

there ARE a few cringe worthy scenes though, so see it first on your own of course, to be sure it doesn't offend your parenting skills. as to how they handled it, my 12 year old was discussing it with my hubby and i non stop afterwords, he loved it. the 5 yr old fell asleep early on, so it wasn't much of an issue. which may be why i didn't notice any bad parts, knowing he wasn't paying attention.

this needs to be reiterated. excellent point man. the Joker didn't even have dental records and I remember that the police said that there were not even tags on his clothes they were all self-tailored.

Make It Work!!

It's a pretty good movie. I am not as rabid a bat freak as most of the folk in this thread seem to be, but I enjoyed it.

Ledger put in a good turn. Bale was not so great. I thought the batman lacked a bit in this film.

Pity about all the terrorist/ climate of fear waffle. It seemed bolted on - if that makes any sense.

I liked the two face character. I did not feel it took the movie down at all.

I give it 3.5/5

I really enjoyed this film.

And I'm not real big on movies. I'm more of a book worm.

I'm not at all familiar with Chicago, so it was a nice change away from the slew of films set in Manhattan.

It wasn't flawless, but I was blown away regardless: 5 stars.

To me the Joker is a living embodiment of the dark soul lurking inside every one of us. He is an archetype. To see him as human diminishes his power.

In my opinion, Heath Ledger "is" The Joker in this film.

I've heard more than one person in my life opine that this roll killed him.

I can see how that might be true.

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- "The Dark Knight" continues to obliterate box office records, crossing the $300 million mark in just 10 days.

Heath Ledger as the Joker and Christian Bale as Batman are breaking box office records with "The Dark Knight."

The epic Batman saga grossed $75.6 million in its second weekend in theaters, pushing its domestic total to $314,245,000, Warner Bros. head of distribution Dan Fellman said Sunday.

That surpasses the record set in 2006 by "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," which took 16 days to make $300 million.

The latest Batman installment already had broken records for best opening weekend at $158.4 million and best single-day with $66.4 million. It's also busted records in its showings on IMAX screens, making $16.3 million in its first 10 days.

Fellman expects that "Dark Knight" could reach $400 million in about 18 days, which would beat the record "Shrek 2" set in 2004 when it made that much money in 43 days.

"What can you say? We've been getting a lot of repeat business coming in," Fellman said. "Our audience is expanding, like you would expect with terrific word-of-mouth and strong reviews. Our audience is getting a little bit older, that's the good news. We're finding the younger demographic, male and female, coming back."

He called it "a big surprise," adding: "To do $300 (million) plus in 10 days, we just couldn't have predicted it."

"The Dark Knight" could pass "Titanic" as the highest-grossing film in U.S. history, said Paul Dergarabedian, president of Media By Numbers. James Cameron's 1997 extravaganza made $600,788,188 domestically, a record no other movie has come close to touching.

"The 'Titanic' record has sat in a lock box for 10 years. It's a tall order but if any film has a chance to surpass that number, it's got to be 'Dark Knight,"' Dergarabedian said.

Director Christopher Nolan's follow-up to his 2005 origin story "Batman Begins," which again stars Christian Bale as the tormented comic-book crime fighter, initially benefited from the mystique of the late Heath Ledger giving his masterful, last performance as the Joker, Dergarabedian said.

"Now, it's all about word-of-mouth," he said. "The first weekend, there was this huge, pent-up demand and eagerness by audiences to see this movie. Now, it's like a freight train -- it seems to be unstoppable."

Part of the film's visual allure comes from the fact that 30 minutes of it were shot with IMAX cameras, including an elaborate bank-heist scene at the start.

"Chris (Nolan) has clearly hit upon something," said Greg Foster, chairman and president of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. "There are many important filmmakers who we've spoken with in the last couple of weeks about shooting with IMAX cameras."
