Film: "Garden State"

I just went and saw this movie tonight. I thought it was really great. i'm not a huge film fan, and usually don't enjoy spending money on films in the theater, but I would pay to see this movie again.

It was sad, yet very funny. There were times in the film where I teared up and laughed at the same time. Portman was great, and I loved her character. The guy from "Scrubs" (Zach Braf..or something) was also really good. This was the first film he directed, and I thought he did a great job (despite a few scenes that were a bit forced).

I highly recommend the movie, especially if you are feeling down. The movie left a smile on my face and made me forget about my problems (even after the movie was over for a bit).

Anyone else see this?

I saw Zach Braf on David Letterman last week and i really want to see this movie. Hope it comes to the UK.

Wow...I'm really surprised to not see any more posts on this movie. I thought BL'rs would be all over this one.

i enjoyed the movie, although i thought the end left something to be desired. had it ended about 10 minutes sooner, i would have given it 4 stars instead of 3.

a few friends were worried that the movie would come across as "trying to hard", but i think it flowed nicely. the characters all seemed like real people, and they were well acted. dialogue was normal and didn't come across as forced sounding until the end. i really enjoyed the way it was shot, some of the scenes just looked amazing.

i would post more about the movie, but don't want to give away an spoilers. i'll wait a bit and then mention more specific things

I saw a trailer for this last wednesday and was thinking the same thing

looks like a good movie, gonna sheck it out this weekend

i liked the movie too. i usually don't like movies, but this one was different. the characters were very realistic (clothing, appearances, the dialogue) and i'm glad that there wasn't much emphasis on sex. :\

i couldn't decide between this and the village. after checking out some reviews of both from fellow bl-er's, we checked out garden state.

i <3ed it. the characters did seem so real. i have always loved natalie portman, and here's one more reason. plus...wow, zach braf's writing...and acting was amazing. the cinematography was beautiful as well. the last seen but the luggage carousel?!

the best part? my boy and i checked it out. he and i were the only people in the theater. we talked out loud during the movie, and stretched out on the seats. it was like watching it at home.

i can't wait for this on dvd, with a commentary...i think it'll be very enlightening.

i heard a lot of good things about this film. i will definitely watch it sometime soon.

well I want to go see this movie.. and now I read some good thoughts on it.. I think I'm going to go and see it this weekend...

I just saw this today. I don't normally care for sentimental stories, but Natalie Portman is charismatic enough that it doesn't come across as trite and forced, at least up until the last scene. But hey, if I were Zach Braff's character, I definitely wouldn't complain about sentimentality. ;)

i don't know, i enjoyed this movie BUT i was thinking i would get more of that 'indie film' feel when i didn't. it just kinda seemed like a love story, pretty predicatable.

Fabulous. As mentioned before, some of the scenes are just beautifully filmed and there are some really, really hilarious parts. I haven't laughed that hard in a movie theater in a long time. I was expecting it to be good but I was just blown away by how real everything seemed. Zach Braff is clearly a very talented person, and I look forward to his future endeavors.

just saw this tonight, and i loved it :) just seeing the weird friends and situations and interesting odd wonderful moments made me think about a lot of the crazy but wonderful weekends i've had :)

Loved it

I was impressed by this movie. It made me laugh hysterically. I couldn't understand why more people weren't laughing at the funeral scene. That woman singing was too much!
