Wow, I guess I'm pretty much alone when it comes to Drugstore Cowboy? It definately depends on what you mean by "drug based movie" though. Drugstore Cowboy is just so fucking awesome when it comes to narcotics..It's most about robbery/theft though. That being said, I guess Fear and loathing....it's the best all around drug movie. But then there's Trainspotting..lol I like Elastiks's list..but "Grove, spun would be at the bottom...

Wonderland is an awesome movie but I wouldn't call it a drug movie per say. Drugs aren't the main theme...a little girl's imagination is. God what a CREEPY movie when I now think of it. God that lady in the black is like a witch...but so is the girl...fuck I'm scaring myself.

^I love Drugstore Cowboy, Van Sant's done some good work over the years. For some reason though, I seem to have voted for Go. I still think it's an awesome film, but I just don't think I would choose it given the option today.

I didn't read the whole thread, but my pick is A Scanner Darkly, which I didn't see in the poll list. Walk the Line is another good movie involving drugs.

I have to say, I'm more interested in movies about drug effects themselves and how they impact people psychologically, than movies about the drama and action surrounding the use or trade of a drug. I'll rewatch any stoner comedy you care to mention, but you couldn't pay me to sit through an episode of 'Weeds'

American Gangster or Dazed and Confused probably, and i dont even like opiates. Fear and Loathing is good, but hard to watch the whole thing...and it tends to freak me out whilst trippin'. I havent watched all of A Scanner Darkly but visually its great..fear and loathing is just kinda 2 dudes doing drugs and having crazy shens. I dont especially like that..and the fact that its 2.5hrs long..i dont like movies that long unless theyre completely epic, liek American Gangster

Hard to pick. I picked Blow..a lot of people don't even like the movie, but I always loved it for some reason. Fear and Loathing and Trainspotting are also good, but I've seen them too many times... Requiem for a Dream just seems kind of cliche to me now, but I still liked it. Spun was decent. Scarface is awesome.

Leaving Las Vegas is also the shit. If anyone hasn't seen it, watch it. I consider it a dark comedy myself--some may not agree with the comedy part. It's about Nick Cage going to Las Vegas to drink himself to death. He meets and falls in love with a prostitute and hilarity/sadness ensues.

I started watching Drugstore Cowboy once, but couldn't really get into it. I'm torrenting it now though and going to give it another chance since a few people recommended it.

Sherry baby was a great movie about a dopehead broad from NJ. Good shit, i liked it. It was mad real.

I hate most drug movies. Havin been thru a heroin addiction I cant stand the stereotypes and cliches of almost every single drug movie out there. I dont get how ppl who really been thru it can be listing all these shitty ass cliche movies unless they dont know nothing about real addiction but thats just my opinion.
