Well its getting to the pointy end of the season and things are hotting up at both ends of the table!! Can Chelsea (with a game in hand at the moment) overcome the 6 point gap between them and Manchester United, or will Man U win the title that has eluded them for the past 2 seasons?

Will Liverpool and Arsenal grab the last 2 Champions League spots? It's looking pretty good for them after Arsenal beat Man City last night...

Will either Charlton or West Ham do a Portsmouth from last season and avoid the drop? I'm backing (non-financially though...) West Ham to do it, mostly because I reckon Lucas Neill is a fantastic player, and you have to back the Aussies wherever they are ;) West Ham have a mighty challenge taking on Chelsea tonight, although they are at Upton Park, so that gives them a slight advantage, and they will definitely be up for it after their 3-0 loss to sodding Sheffield United on the weekend. If West Ham can cause a boil-over, it will be fantastic for them, but will seriously dent Chelsea's title aspirations, but I want West Ham to stay up, more than I want Chelsea to win the title... so GO WEST HAM!!

I wouldn't mind seeing Fulham go down with Sheffield United and Watford, as Charlton aren't an awful side... Darren Bent was out for quite a few games injured, which didn't really help them all that much as they don't really have much up front except for him, and I'd like to see West Ham stay up, re the last paragraph ;) I'd also love to see Wigan stay up as they were pretty much THE team last season, what with promotion then sitting 2nd in the league for 2/3rds of the season... they deserve to stay up, and I just don't really care about Fulham ;)

Who will get the UEFA cup places? 5th-7th in the league is what is required, and I reckon Bolton and Everton are pretty much dead certainties, with Portsmouth, Tottenham and Reading fighting for the last one. With Portsmouth's fantastic start to the season, I'd like to see them hit Europe next year, but can you imagine Tottenham not making it? Well what with their incredibly leaky defense of late... I reckon I can!

And the most important point of all... can I get up and win the Bluelight fantasy comp? I've been sitting second for pretty much the entire 2nd half of the season and have been slowly chipping away at the lead... we'll have a much better picture of overall standings after tonights games! All I have to say is that it was a stroke of genius having Fabregas as captain this gameweek!

What's really important is can I overtake Linus and secure a place in Europe? (So to speak).

Love to see Portsmouth make it into Europe, especially at the expense of Spurs (damn Norf London comedy club).

I don't think West Ham can stay up, especially after last night's loss. And especially because they will play United in their last game, which may be the title decider for United. I'd rather see good ol' Charlton stay up, myself.

(Hmm, just realised I hate West Ham and Spurs, the teams that two of my old managers supported ;)).

I'm a huge United fan, so I'm desperately hoping that we can get some damn defenders back. It was somewhat ridiculous yesterday watching Fletcher and Richardson, respectively 3rd choice centre midfielder and 4th choice winger, playing as fullbacks. I fear that if we don't get some real defenders back, we will be badly exposed when we come up against a top team - and we still have to play Everton and Chelsea, plus bogey team Middlesborough, and Man City.

Chelsea will go on and on winning, so United will need to do so as well. It will probably come down to the last day - I can see United getting turned over at Stamford Bridge.

We then come into the fascinating and unique possibility of United and Chelsea playing off for three trophies in the space of a week. Something to look forward to, though I fear the FA Cup will be completely boring. There's a very good chance that either United or Chelsea or both will be in the European Cup final four days later - I can't see them playing a full strength team in the FA Cup when they will be concentrating on the European Cup. So the fans are likely to feel somewhat cheated at Wembley.
 
Man Utd have just been unstoppable this season, its like everything you want in a football team, they have. The 7-1 win over Roma shows this especially.(wish i saw that).
 
I can't believe I was sitting with you two a couple of weeks ago and we didn't talk football!

CB: do you have Foxtel? I desperately want to get it but forcing myself to at least wait until next season starts (August)... I will lose whatever's left of my life watching EPL games if I get cable.

I don't really support any side but I guess I cheer on the English teams. Very much looking forward to next Wednesday's Champions League clash between United and AC Milan.

I still think Ronaldo is a complete tosser but you can't argue with skill... he was absolutely inspired in the Roma game and his potential to be one of the game's great makes watching him play really exciting.

Also, I've been seeing new Nike posters all over Melbourne with Lucas Neil, Ronaldinho and Rooney on them... must be some clever photoshopping that makes Rooney look as fit as the other two. Oh and Neil looks like Shannon Noll... ;)

I think Lucas Neill is going to be looking for a new club come end of the season...
 
staunch gunners fan, they've been hit and miss all season, though I think next season they'll be a force once again, henry fit, some very talented youg guns who'll be more mature, watch out premier league

I don't care. I have Les Murray and Craig Foster on free-to-air telling me how much better Spanish and Italian football is compared to the English game. :p

United better get some full-backs fit for Wednesday's game or they're going to be in trouble.

I remember it well. That was one of the great games, for me. Keane sent off. Then Arsenal get a penalty with minutes to play. Schmikes saves it, and I was on my knees in the pub (for some reason) cheering. (Damn lucky there were a few Reds in there, seeing as I lived in North London...). Then Schmikes injured, playing with ten men and an injured keeper, and somehow holding on, and then THAT goal :)

And then the Juventus match. And then Barcelona :)

btw, how interesting are the potential final matchups in the CL? Every possible game will be a grudge match (except if its Chelsea v Milan) - either the English teams meet, or Milan meet Liverpool, looking for revenge for 2005. Will be great to watch, whoever makes the final (I'm not sure if I'll be able to stand watching United play Liverpool, though).
 
Best mate is a rabid Scouser! Be great fun to be right beside him with the United jersey;)

I mean, the bloke wears a red wig while watching them play from his sofa!
 
I hope Chelsea get over Man U a at Stamford bridge, it is just a shame Rooney was on fire there for a while and knocking in braces and hat tricks like they were giving it away. Goal difference seems a harsh way to lose.

FA cup will be a ripper no matter what, almost like a grand final (you can here the Southern hemisphere in me now).

At one stage I'm sure I was holding some sort of record when my fantasy team had everyone bar 3 players out injured. Fighting for relegation but will come back harder next year with the experience. (I might even swollow my pride and pick some Red Devils....... nah maybe not.
 
Boro hold United 1-1 :(

This is really going to be a tense end to the season.

United are in desperate trouble. With a full-strength squad, I'd be confident of coming away with something. But without our entire first-choice defence, I can see us getting hammered by Milan and dropping points in the league. The league is there for Chelsea to win now. United might have to be satisfied with the FA Cup. A poor, poor return from such a good season :(
 
Neville, O Shea, Evra - all back soon.

Vidic resumed light training yesterday. Word is he could be fit for chelsea.

AC are going to be hard put to cope with united's pace. They are an excellent, but ageing team and the prem is so much higher in tempo to the italian league.

Chelsea comes closer and closer. If both of them win their next 3 matches the last one will be the deciding match, let's hope it will be. It'd be a great finish of the season. I hope West Ham can get out of that relegation zone btw, it'd be a shame to see them fall out of the premiership, they've been on fire their last couple of games, Tevez and Zamora keep scoring.

Some pretty exciting title races in a lot of countries these weeks. Still all to play for in England, Spain, Germany, Portugal and Holland. Forget those boring Italian and French competitions, lol..
 
BM: what's your neutral opinion on Man Utd vs AC Milan? I can see Ronaldo's pace causing the old-timers some problems; on the other hand, United will have to get the ball to Ronaldo in the first place - Gattuso and Pirlo might easily shut down the midfield. And the thought of Kaka running at Darren Fletcher (playing at left back in place of G Neville) is more than a little worrying ;)

(btw, the Chelsea-Man Utd match is the second-last match - United play West Ham on the final day of the season).
