Elvis Died For YOU

There's a difference between being shit and being a cunt. No, Sid wasn't shit. But he was certainly a cunt.

Can we keep this going for 800 posts d'ya reckon?

Some of the 1969/1970 live stuff is as hard-hitting as the early stuff tho Pagey - particularly his version of "Polk Salad Annie" with that incredible band he had at that time - Jerry Schiff (guy who played bass on the Doors last album), Ronnie Tutt (drummer, played with Gram Parsons) and James Burton (great solo he did on "hello mary lou").

I like a lot of the ballads he did after Cilla left him and he became clinically depressed. "It's easy for you" and "Seperate ways".

True. To be honest I haven't listened to that much of his later stuff. It just makes me kinda sad to see him in that state. I'd rather watch the early concerts where he actually seems happy (shit that makes me sound really corny doesn't it...oh well)

The only Fat Elvis Impersonator worth a wank...

Dread Zeppelin - Suspicious Minds

They even chuck in a bit o' Beatles too for good measure =D

Yes yes yes =D

I don't know how Johnny Rotten came up but I just needed to say I can't fucking stand that man. The arrogance of so many of those punk frontmen is just unbelievable. And I don't like their music.
They did wear pretty awesome clothes though. And to be fair I did write an essay on London Calling earlier this year.
Anyway, that's all I had to contribute.

Sid was a pretty boy. Don't think his snarl fooled anyone. Maybe Ismene.

John Lydon, minus butter adverts, equals God. But then came the butter ads.

So we have the Church of the KLF instead.

If that isn't against the BLUA there is truly no justice...'their music' who's music ...what music...I rest my case

Lenny is an amazing film. I usually don't like Dustin Hoffman but he was awesome in that one. Great subject, truly incredible nobody managed to fuck it up :D

In Johnny Rotten news, Mr 23 is right - there's way more to the Pistols, Rotten and punk (and indeed post-punk as demonstrated in the posted linky) than snarl, faux aggression, expensive designer clothes and vitriol (Lydon was a poncy artschool graduate anyway, no?). There's a strong political message in there too (amongst other things). Is possibly not as relevant to those who didn't grow up in the 70s/80s in Britain though, granted. The broader message is absolutely relevant though. Punk put the necessary coffin nails in the coffin of that shitty 70s wankrock stuff that had totally stifled the music industry since the end of the 60s/early 70s. Was a necessary cleanout that I can imagine you may well disapprove of ;)<3

^What, me? I wasn't saying punk was bad or anything. Nor did I say it shouldn't have come at a time when rock was starting to turn into a big Spinal Tap fiasco. But I'm still allowed not to like their music no? / Find them insufferably arrogant? ;)
Was just expressing my opinion, not trying to triviliase the punk movement. You do have to remember I was born after it happened and in a different country so all I've got left to judge them is their music and history books. Which is really all I was judging. I never said anything about their mission/political message as such...especially seeing as I agree with it.

Wasn't aimed at you specifically, Pagey :)

Although I would have to take issue with the disagreeing with the political message. Do you really disagree with fukking with the mainstream and trying (albeit mostly failing... although has become more mainstream of late) to dismantle capitalism? Is definitely quite specific to the UK at the time in particular, though. I only caught the very end of it - MamaSham used to be scared of punks and made us cross the street to avoid 'em =D

In terms of being influential - in a very good kinda way - it's hard to fault. Although those shitey Merkin "punk" bands like Green Day and Blink 182 are an abomination to the name :!
