I've been thinking about this whole odd/even batch number thing and the consequences of it. Say it turns out that all odd numbered batches definitely do not split. In the interests of harm minimisation the logical thing to do would be to tell everyone about it - splash it across the internet, add it to FAQs etc etc. But in doing so we increase the chances (or so I think) of alerting the manufacturers to the fact that people are abusing the product, and that we have found a way around their attempt at preventing this. Sure the manufacturers would know that a portion of sales are being abused, but they may decide to take further action if they get wind of the fact that the deterrent (odd batch numbers) has been avoided.
Which may result in all batches being made unsplittable... And we are back to CWEing after all this. So, do we spread the news (if the trend continues) or is this our little secret?
This post is a little tongue in cheek, but it is an interesting idea that we may be contributing to fazing out splittable N+.
Also, I was wondering if the UK (where most N+ are unsplittable) only receive odd batch numbers or whether this pattern is limited to Australia only....?
