^fair caveats. i think there are a few too many non-mythical elements for it to be all fabrication though (similarly with krishna) - a fabrication/concsious myth would be a bit more perfect a narrative it seems to me (eg like greek god myths), whereas there are a few more messy bits in jesus' tales (and krishna to a degree). What resemblance they had to the eventual verison of the story is another thing though (seems usually about the opposite of the original is a fair rule in religions)

well now then people. It's the EVE of the solstice. after today the SUN returns. The light of the world into the darkness. It's time to glorify the wonders of the world. raas, tell me what has Saturn got to do with it all/ ? what do you reckon is Jesus' real birthday? Interesting that the person WHO FOUNDED THE IMPORTANT CHURCHES IN THE HOLY LAND WAS CONSTANTINE'S MOTHER. didn't mean caps lock it was an accident. Saturn made me do it :)

anyone seen Jupiter? at least I think it's Jupiter riding high above the moon

Modern-day "authoritarians" are a bunch of fluffy bunny rabbits, by comparison to the Romans. It's surprising how effective wholesale slaughter can be as a persuasionary tactic. Remember this at all times when dismissing the idea that something could have been fabricated from whole cloth.

Here is another link to the documentary.. It is poorly made which makes it scream "conspiracy theory nut jobs" but if you look up the information for yourself it's *mostly* there.

That video (which you blatantly didn't even bother watching)

oh come on man.

That VIDEO was 1 hour and 10 minutes long.

Not only that, but it wasn't actually a video at all... it was all audio.

If you want to take up half my day, just to come out with a response you'll only deny later.... please, please include pretty little pictures -

That video (which you blatantly didn't even bother watching) does make a lot of theories based on possibilities with not much evidence.. So don't even bother watching it..

You can do better than that raas.

My next post (the long one) is solid.. and it is that post i was clearly referring to in PMs.

For the record: Did you look up any of the information presented in that "documentary".. Funny how Luke includes a lot of Josepheus' work in the story of Jesus.. even though it was written 40 years later.. but anyway ignore that vid (as i already said to do so).. Read my post.

PS: It's a video.

So raas, based on the evidence presented, I bid to you;

Jesus never existed.

Please, tell me why or how I'm wrong.. or are the facts i've presented a biased interpretation fuelled by a deep seeded hate for religion?

It is a great post, Ricko. And I love the finish to it. Candid and honest.

I've never really questioned the authenticity of the gospels. I was a Christian before I'd even read them fully.

The validity of my own faith and belief in Jesus arises from involvement from within the church, my own life experience and collating bible verses with this. Never really felt a need to research the background of scripture, as it has worked in so many other ways.

What I'm trying to say is, I can't answer your post off the top of my head with my current knowledge. I have to take a lot of time to research myself and look to see how accurate your accusations are. As my faith to me, has been proven in so many other ways, it gives me heart to look into this and really find a true answer - not a load of ambiguous shite to fog you off with.

And as you force me to do my homework, it becomes a development to my own faith and understanding.

Beautiful productivity going on here.

I'll help you out:

http://www.rationalrevolution.net/articles/gospel_mark.htm .. has most of the passages that mark plagiarised from old scripture to write the new..

Also:

This is the passage that matthew claims prophesied the virgin birth, when translated properly:

http://bible.oremus.org/?passage=Isaiah+7

14Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Look, the young woman* is with child and shall bear a son, and shall name him Immanuel.*

But indeed i do invite you to check my facts, double then tripple.. for i'd like to know of any mistakes i may have made.

How could you hold on to a faith if you come to find your faith was based on a fairytale?

I think the virgin birth might be explained as a case of artificial insemination, at the end of the day they've been creating half breeds since our creation, most monarchic dinasties originally consisted of hybrids, hence the definition of kings being gods and having divine right. They were put here to control us and make us work, keep us enslaved, as were religious leaders.

In literally every place on earth there are tales of kings who are actually descended by space "gods".

I'll help you out:

I don't need any help from you, Rickolas.

I need time to get over this bug, time to get over this hangover, time to get over NYE... time to cut my hours at work... time to go on a long run, in natural environment and find my soul again...

And then i'll be ready. Watch this space, bitches...

I give raas two weeks of frantic study, looking for holes in my thesis before he finally snaps and turns into one of those nutters who walk up and down high streets shouting at people for being sinners.. before finally accepting that life without Jesus isn't that bad.. in fact.. it is in no way different.

OK, here's an interesting question .....

Long ago, before the meddling invaders came along spreading their middle-Eastern religion to the men at the point of a sword and to the women at the point of something else, the early Europeans believed that thunder and lightning were divine in origin, and the deity responsible for them was Thor.

Now we understand that thunder and lightning are just an electrical discharge -- exactly the same as the spark ignition on a gas cooker, only on a much, much bigger scale. And it's the exact same energy responsible for these words, being beamed out across the sky to dance behind a pane of glass in front of your eyes.

So, does the fact that we understand electricity mean that Thor does not exist -- or that Thor does exist?

So, does the fact that we understand electricity mean that Thor does not exist -- or that Thor does exist?

Science has proven that what was once attributed to a mad sky man is actually caused by something else. Therefore science has proven Thor doesn't exist, or at least that he doesn't do what he was claimed to do. Science has done the same with the Christian "god", yet idiots still believe...

What was the big one Christian god did? Create humans and shit? Two humans, one made out of the others rib? Aye? Well... no he didn't. Clearly.

Have you ever had this debate with a Christian who has changed his/her mind when presented with the overwhelming evidence?

What over-whelming evidence? No-ones disproved the Bible's authenticity to date. There's a lot of theories, but no proof.

Like most things in life, it is far more complicated than your articles suggest... bias, misunderstanding and self-fulfilment creep into ones perception and influence the thinking. The fact that you blindly accept everything an atheist says, without much knowledge on the subject, only exemplifies how incredibly blind you are being yourself.

It's akin to someone reading a Daily Mail article on how evil drugs are, and believing every word regardless. Try and explain it's BS and they won't accept it. Total ignorance.

I really doubt it. Blind faith and ignorance is how religion works.

ColtDan said:

Blindness and ignorance is also a basis for opposition to religion - total lack of understanding on the complexity of the subject and believing everything your told without question - exemplified here and time and time again in this thread.

Rick, let me get through new year then we'll discuss your post fully.

Science has proven that what was once attributed to a mad sky man is actually caused by something else. Therefore science has proven Thor doesn't exist, or at least that he doesn't do what he was claimed to do.
Or that there is a real, quantifiable phenomenon underlying thunder and lightning, even if it is not a hammer-wielding anthropomorphic being.

So I suppose what I am really asking is ..... Can you reconcile science with religion by saying that charged particles *are* Thor, and an electric shock *is* a blow from Mjolnir; or has that already diluted everything to the point where the analogy fails?
