Recommendations to poster above

Thanks :). I've seen about half of them - out of them i think Spider is probably my favourtie and mostly the sort of thing i was after (or john malkovich) - i'll check out the ones i don't know on the weekend.

Shocking is the wrong word - I sort of knew what I was in for (Bible - waves fist for spoilers). It's not shocking as in - Oh no Cain / Able / don't eat that apple / last man on Earth / Build a ship rebuild/ save the planet thing.

It's just plain awful - I suppose if you knew nothing about Noah or the Ark or religion or the bible or acting or CGI or plot and you have 2 hours to spare it could be deemed fun.

Watch it, tell me what you think.

Watched requiem for a dream again the other day, sure most people have seen it but I'd always recommend it if you haven't. Great film, depressing as fuck though.
I absolutely fucking hate that film! Depressing beyond words and affected me for days after watching I remember! Horrid

Watched Identity earlier...

It seemingly starts off as a mildly entertaining murder-mystery but ends up with a rather interesting twist. It's a great premise for a film but didn't quite pull it off for me.

recently saw the remake of the Korean Film Oldboy (2013). I fould it quit entertaining.

The Maltese Falcon
North by Northwest
Pulp Fiction
12 Angry Men
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Vertigo
Terminator 2 (Should watch one first really)
Shawshank Redemption
Psycho
One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest
Casino
Apocalypse Now
Goodfellas

I'm not huge on films but they are all 5 star must see films. Pick any, you won't be disappointed.

I've just come back from seeing this at the BFI as part of the Dennis Potter retrospective:

Dreamchild

Highly recommend it, if anyone comes across it. Ian Holm, as ever, was fucking amazing (one of my favourite actors of all time). Doubt such an ambiguous film about the subject matter would get made today (especially in the current climate).

Another fantastic film starring Ian Holm:

The Madness of King George

It was based on a play called "The Madness of King George III". Apparently they changed the name because too many americans complained they couldn't understand it because they'd missed parts 1 and 2 =D.

Yeah it's definitely not to everyone's tastes. I like depressing films though and I already knew the ending anyway cos I'd read the book before so it wasn't as horrible as it otherwise would have been. Still a very well done film.

There Will Be Blood is decent... been awhile since i've seen that

@Sayeh - thanks for recommending adaptation - that was great. Great recursion going on.

Also came across Beyond the Black Rainbow really nice trippy visual and retro sound, ambiguous, dark, confusing 'plot', mind control, drugs (reminiscent of THX1138 ) i loved it, some may not (slow, not very 'conventional') great trip film

Wow - great taste. I was about to post 'Sharknado'

Gotta agree there. It wallows in its own cartoonish depressiveness like that's a substitute for depth. As for Black Swan, that was just laughable. "I was perfect"=D. I actually creased at the end of that film.

Not sure whether Darren Aronofsky is ridiculously overrated, or just a very good troll.

watched dawn of the planet of the apes last night.

quite a good movie! i still lke the "rising..." one better (ie. the previous one) but this was also great. Caesar is an awesome character.

though another film uselessly made in 3D... wouldve been equally good if not better in simple 2d

Birdemic: Shock and Terror

Not sure if its a parody or .. im not sure. It comes with a striking global warming message though, maybe that was the issue. I cant actually believe I watched the whole thing absolutely blitzed, fell asleep for most of it. Never watch it though. Not sure why I made the post actually, will contribute a good film,, soon, was touted as the worst ever film, some of it was piss funny.

So, Twilight has done the whole vampire genre no real favours... when I heard there was another vampire movie, I thought - not another one. However, looking around at what horror movies are supposed to have been good as of late, I couldn't help but notice it was on them:

Let Me In

It's actually a remake of a Swedish film, Let the Right One In, which itself is adapted from a book. I certainly thought it was a very interesting film. Very dark, which is pretty much a given with these Swedish productions. Will definitely want to see the original now as it is meant to be better, if slightly different.

ive seen them both chatative, but saw the swedish one first. it is a bit different though, but not by much...

in a side note, the director of let me in is the same as in dawn of the planet of the apes. also did cloverfield, a good movie if you like shakycam

The original is great man - you should definitely check it out. Not seen the remake, but I'm yet to see a re-make which beats the original (apart from Bad Lieutenant, but that wasn't really a re-make).

Talking about shoddy re-makes, this happens to be one of my favourite films:

The vanishing

There was an american remake starring Jeff Bridges and it was a fucking travesty - not going to spoil it, but they messed with the ending in an unforgivable way, based on the assumption that Americans can't deal with drama or something.

I'd read the remake tried to make it a bit more of a horror flick by putting slightly more focus on that side of things. That right?

I saw Cloverfield when it came out... it wasn't too bad but the trailer had me expecting a better film. (one does get a bit bored of shakycam though :D)
