EADD Heroin discussion v.20 -- You've come a long way baby

Normally they gave people chemotherapy by a vein in back of their hand I think but because they couldn't even get blood tests from any of my veins they had to p inut a picc line in to my arm in the bicep area.
They said this was a rare thing to do for someone having chemo due to the risk of infection from the picc line.
Yeah my freinds little boy had a picc line for his chemotherapy but did have to get it removed in the end due to frequent infection but it makes delivering the chemo a lot easier.

I really hope it goes OK for you mate. Sincerely.

Thanks mate. Have had the all clear for cancer now and picc line removed. Just have to have Rituximab every 2 months for next 2 years to help knock the cancer back down if it returns.

On a slight tangent my new girlfreind lives in London and I was thinking of applying for a nob with the London ambulance service (I'm up north)...._they get paid more I think.

I got the wrong train home from work tonite and had to walk about 8 miles and spotted three ambulances and non of the cunts stopped to give me a lift...must have had something important on (like they're fucking afternoon break)

I had me uniform on the must have seen me.

Nah if I did tbat they would have run me over an caused genuine injury.......the walk did me good although me balls were chaffing a bit by the time I got in.

@zzz101

If you go to hospital and you need pain relief and they offer you morphine then say to them that you have a bad reaction to it. As it clearly states in the BNF and elsewhere that if a patient is unable to stand morphine then Oxycodone should be offered. It is known that some people are allergic to the 'natural' opiates codeine, morphine and heroin this is because both codeine and heroin are converted to morphine inside the body. Whereas Oxycone is not converted to morphine...... unless I'm utterly confused.

Talking of foreign Dr's I once worked in a residential care home. The care home had decided to switch everyone's GP to a closer practise. So a GP was sent around to look at everyone's medicines, the GP which was sent was a muslim. She took EVERY patient off any sort of opiate. Some of these people had cancer, were so infirm they were in bed all day and due to the fact they were dying were in pain. Plus other reasons for needing opiate pain relief. We questioned her why and she said 'god will comfort those in pain, and we should not use opiates unless absolutely needed!!!!!!!!!!!11

Needless to say as soon as she left we rang the practise to say this was utterly bad practise, and they agreed and reversed all her changes.

That's pretty much true, codeine and heroin are converted converted into morphine in the body. I wouldn't call heroin a natural opiate as its co pletely man made (reacting morphine with acetic anhydride). Only morpbine codeine and theibane are derived from the opium poppy and are "natural" opiates. Oxycodone is a theibane derivative if I remember correctly but is synthetic and doesn't occur naturally.

Unbelievable story about the Muslim doctor doing thar...she should be struck off. Fair enough if your religious beliefs say that"god will help those in pain" but it shouldn't be pushed onto others .. I think a patent dying with terminal cancer might disagree somewhat with that statement. Some doctors are abysmal....but I suppose it could be worse..at least we're not paying out of pocket for shit doctors like the yanks do.

I had a canula direct into the artery in my neck-nice!!!apparantly,they needed a big one cos this was no keyhole surgery-it was a cut-you -top-to-bottom,stick your hand in and find the problem.i know nothing about such things.the worst bit by far was the bile drain through the naso-gastric tube.
when i was going in to the theatre, they said they wanted to put in an epidural...which i reluctantly agreed to...but i explained that it could NOT be an alternative to the morphine-then some nurse shouts "are you a drug addict?",thank god the anaesthetist came to my rescue and explained about long term pain patients.
after a few days in agony,i realised the best thing for my pain was to get as many benzos in me as possible-cos it relaxed the muscles which were causing most of the pain
when it comes to appropriate and effective pain relief,it really is just pot luck.

If I recall correctly heroin does cross the BBB but is almost instantly converted to 6MAM then morphine in a minute or two.... I'd have to look in up tho TBH
