EADD Fishing thread

Lots of double figure trout. Best fish for me was my first sea trout out of loch tay.
Loch awe is my favourate place in the world. Simply stunning%)

I <3 sea fishing. Best catches have been Thornback Ray and Conger Eel. We are an Island you know!

some of the poeple near by where I am head out towards stornaway and believe he still holds the shore caught record for skate, also a few guys from here go down the west coast fishing and have hit a few records. will get info of where, quite fancy it myself, mostly the beer ;)

^^^I liked tay and awe but for me it is loch maree, quiet, hardly ever see anyone at all and a good days fishing. if I go for sea from shore it would be torridon or gairloch, just lovely and a couple of beers perfect :)

most people round where I am go fishing, mostly sea fishing, as a kid most of my school would be fishing in the lochans and streams normally the tiniest of trout you could find, very sweet tasting, take the net down and get minnows. now it is a case of when you have time or if you know anyone arranging boat trips normally about 12 of us go out and make a day of it. not been in a while will have to get the old gear out dust it down and get back to it. I do fancy Norway and the fjords never got round to it. will some day :)

@ farmaz : Awesome cod & halibut fishing in norway, you might catch a Steinbit out there too.

HOLY WT shitting F

Steinbit is a monster, I have been told about the Cod out there in the North sea they are meant to be bloody tasty.
I had never been fishing before I went there & caught a load of Mackrell & also got this damn thing too. The Norwegian kids told me you cant eat it but we looked on the Net after we let it go & it said you could.

^ Nice wrasse, I don't think they are generally thought of as being good eating, but they do fight hard. Big cod can be a bit boring, as it's just like winching up a dead weight sometimes, but if there is pollack / big coalfish over there then you will have good fun with those, they are like torpedos.

Never been big game fiishing, do a lot of mid-Channel wreck fishing here with mates on their boats...

I disagree about cod, though never caught one over 20lb meself, maybe "big cod" like you say ceres are more lumpen, but all the cod I've caught have bucked and kicked and massive headshakes and bolts and darts, amazing fish to catch, better imo as a "sport" fish than pollack, which do one mad dive, then another one halfway up, then just let you reel them in.

A tail hooked 7lb bass is fun. =D

That wrasse above farmaz posted, they are nice little fish, good fun to go fishing for with kids, no need to cast, just drop a bait (ragworm, peeler, prawn),maybe a float too into deep water and hold tight. Shit to eat, some of our local fishmongers sell them, they've told me they mainly sell them to the Chinese or Polish communities.

Nice jellies ceres...I alternate between jellies, sidewinders, and livebaits (mackerel for cod and bass from the boat, sandeel for bass from shore)

My favourite, but expensive, lure at the moment for boat is the rhubarb and custard sidewinder

My mates on the boat use a lot of pirks over the wrecks, big pirks would be your thing in Norway farmaz....

They come in all sorts of finishes, we use mirrored, or lumi ones for deep wrecks.

I don';t like using them as the wrecks we fish are very snaggy, and we lose a lot, shitloads in fact, my mate makes them so he doesn't mind, but it does my head in keep having to rig up again while we're on a drift.

wrasse go mental for ragworm, so easy to get them to bite but a total bugger if you give them a chance to go back into their bolt hole, snags galore, fun fish tho

Catch a trout.

Hook on a bit of line.

Bread that fuckinghook and bread it good.
Toss hook and lineage into a flowing 10+mph stream and *bosh*.

The powerful, excited young trout will snout that hook n line up like a cat up a trailway.

Satisfaction aint the word.

same, but worm that fucking hook and worm it good.

:)

and farmaz if you get the chance to go halibut fishing, fucking take it.

And if you want any cheap, very cheap pirks, PM me ;)

do you fly fish?

No :sus:

I can fly fish, not very well, but i don't like it. I don't see the point of making things harder for yourself, there are much better ways of catching fish. I can't think of any situation where fly fishing would be no.1 choice.

All this goes with the caveat that I am almost always fishing for the table, friends tables, the freezer etc, not for sport...I know a few fly fishers, and they are cool, but it's coming at fishing from a whole different angle to me.
