EADD Fishing thread

I've never noticed how East Anglia looks like the head of a penis when laid on its side.

Apposite.

(Not opposite ;) )

Actually could be Kent, talk of cod fishing, and Brighton Marina points that way.

I always think of opposite as across the water, or even a large bay.

BTW, I've fished Brighton Marina once, was stormy, and got up at 5am, the wings were shut, so we stood right by the gates and cast into the churning weedy brown water, all 3-4ft deep of it...I had brought some prime Devon peelers, and some squid, and lobbed out a massive squid/peeler cocktail bait on a 6/0 hook on an 8 ozs weight to try to hold bottom, had a take in about 2 mins, mate had to help me drag a 4.5lb bass up the wall, fucking delicious.

Was a very happy monkey that morning, was my biggest shore bass at the time, actually still is my biggest shore bass.

Gonna start back sea fishing next month %)

fishing storm beaches is great fun. but technical. and expensive. edit> also bloody dangerous.

shockleaders do my head in, try attaching one in a hurricane at sub zero temperatures at midnight while your fingers are covered in squid juice and you get the idea.

I don't mind storm beaches t night, and I finally managed to master the Bimni Twist, almost blindfold now, i have a little Ron Thompson beach shelter, flask, layers and laters of clothes, those footwarmer things in me waders, and a massive extendable tripod to get me rod tip right over the breakers, fixed wire grip leads ,and I love to see the stars at night in winter...

also find night fishing on rocky ledges and in and out of gullies a lot more fucking scary, safety wise. Nevrr go out there on me own, but a srorm beach I can manage and not feel in too much danger...much easier landing the fish too.

Ceres have you ever tried the cod rig where you attach a hair line with a small hook onto a big 6/0 or even 8/0, bait a 1/0 hook on the hairline to catch a whiting/pouting, and wait for a big cod to grab the whiting and the big hook? I've read about it a lot, tried it a couple of times, but no luck, whiting just ends up foul hooking itself on the big hook too and dying.

I have a floatation suit, and only fish those marks with a mate never on my own. I like the scary beaches and ledges, the out of the way places, and the stars aswell at this time of year. (well jan/feb, the best of the codding is past now).

I haven't tried that trick but I have heard of it, seems like a bit of hassle to me. I always got results with squid or mackerel strips (or both) and bait elastic, but the nightmare is really a) holding the bottom when the sea is raging and b) seaweed on shockleader knots accumulating and dragging your lead out, grr.

fuckloads of seaweed on your shockleader knots and tring to drag a big fish up the shingle in the undertow :(

Do you use fixed wire leads or breakouts?

I dont have a flotation suit, just loads of warm clothes, long johns, and a shit load ot Team Royal Mail waterprroofs, I don't wear wadres on the rock marks, asking for fucking trouble, but they're a godsend on shingle beaches for landing fish...just wade in and grab the leader knot

Thanks Ceres, you've got me enthusiastic again, got a day off tomorrow, might make up a load of rigs :)

And are you in kent or south west wales, Im only interested from a fiching POV, PM me if you don't want to say.

Bait elastic is my best mate, stuff a squid with peelers or sprats and tie it up nice on a clippped down pennel rig.

He's an idiot.

Does he go out on East facing storm beaches for overnight codding sessions in shorts?

EDIT>>>>I've been more into boat fishing last couple of years, but am gonna get into some nice early morning and overnight shore trips this year.

SHM come along, wear your onesie though for warmth.

yeah the clipped down pennel is a favourite. I use rotten bottom links aswell sometimes, and prefer the grippers with the beads that can pop out - you can stick a couple of elastic bands around them to make them hold tighter if needed.

The beaches here are shingle, and really steep, so winter gales you're talking like 15 foot breakers sometimes but the fishing is excellent.

couple of people die every year sadly, fishing round here.

same here, fishing, sea fishing is very dangerous, nearly as dangerous as delivering mail. People get cut off on sandbars, swept of rocks, or trapped by filling gullies behind them...

try a soft wire fixed gripper, much bigger wires, hold bottom really well, even in bristol channel...

hahah there was actually one mark I'd found myself wandering along the cliffs, that meant i was cutoff by the tide if i wanted to fish it for most of the day so had to time it well, couple of times risked it and got knee deep wet coming back.

of course a few weeks later I actually realised there was another way down to it that was faster and accessible regardless of the tide, idiot! lol. summer rock mark though, not dangerous, would just mean 6 hours on a very big rock waiting for the tide to go out sometimes.

edit> never turn your back on the sea, as they say. wise words.

ha we've got one of them, shat myself the frst time my mate took me there.

My son is getting pretty goood at ciff scrambles now, as long as I carry al the gear, there's one cliff used by a few anglers that is roped up in the really steep bits, and he coped with it last year, with a lot o help for the first time, am looking forward to speng=ding the nght down ther with him this year...

He's 7 nearly, and a lot of fun to be with, enthusiastic about everything,,,

this was his first pollack, when he was 3 %) (proud dad)
