EADD Fishing thread

Mailmonkey, I just been looking on the environment agency website for fishing licenses (new ones begin on 1st April), and I noticed that under 12's get free access to any type of license.

Doesn't seem to say if they need to be accompanied by an adult either?

Which leads me to the thought: 'why aren't more parents sending their under 12's out to bring home salmon in these times of hardship'? =D

I'd forgotten that, i remember fishing without a license till I was about 16.

You sure it applies to game-fishing as well as coarse? problem is most bits of the rivers with good runs of salmon and seatrout are owned by syndicates, and charge hefty fees for a days fishing.

It's okay if you know someone, or are prepared to be a bit :sus:

Actually could be Kent, talk of cod fishing, and Brighton Marina points that way.

I always think of opposite as across the water, or even a large bay.

BTW, I've fished Brighton Marina once, was stormy, and got up at 5am, the wings were shut, so we stood right by the gates and cast into the churning weedy brown water, all 3-4ft deep of it...I had brought some prime Devon peelers, and some squid, and lobbed out a massive squid/peeler cocktail bait on a 6/0 hook on an 8 ozs weight to try to hold bottom, had a take in about 2 mins, mate had to help me drag a 4.5lb bass up the wall, fucking delicious.

Was a very happy monkey that morning, was my biggest shore bass at the time, actually still is my biggest shore bass.

Gonna start back sea fishing next month %)

You have almost exactly described my favourite mark and favourite conditions!
Squid / lug combo also works a treat for the larger bass at that spot. It's great when the waves break over the marina and splash down into the relatively calm harbour on t'other side. My parents used to live in a lovely little flat which had views onto the marina, I lived by the tides in those days!

I miss Brighton :(
And I miss fishing so much! Ain't been since someone burglarised the gaff and took ALL my tackle including a very special shimano reel I won in a competition :X

Awwww shhit backrol,a mate of mine had is fishing shed broken into a couple of months back, sea, course, and fly tackle he'dbuilt up over the years, all gone.

Not insured either.

real bad state of afairs having to start again from scratch :(

Just took up river fishing. Bought a wee spinning outfit for 30 bucks, some mepps and been enjoying walking and having a cast. Some cracking brownies and a run of seatrout and salmon are the target species. So far all i have caught are trees and rocks. Have spotted mink and otter tho :]

you got a license for seatrout and salmon?

If you haven't got a license might as well fuck the Mepps off and geta big bunch of lobworm on a hook.

its all about the prawns! spinners work a treat though. seatrout on the fly in estuaries is great fun too.

quiet time of year for sea fishing up this way, bar the plaice.

yeah, water's warming up late this year, not started warming at all, last 3 years the macks have come in in March for a couple of months, followed by the bass, and the macks have all fucked off furtther north by the summer months, traditionally best months for mack fishing here....they still about, but not in the huge numbers they used to be in in June/July/August....

Last few years the bigest shoals have been April/may and start of June.

I've never tried poachin using prawans for sea trout....use them for rays really...

Rays will be coming up into the estuaries over this month and next :) about a month later than usual cos of sea temps I think....

oh man, mackerel on a lightweight 3oz spinning rod, using braid, and 4 - 6 feathers = immense fun in the sun. but not till late june here.

Salmon ,sea trout, brown trout have a season ticket for river ythan , spin (flying c ) or fly or worm deveron is a lovely river too near peterhead there's a coal power station and it sucks seawater in for violin an pumps it back in at 30 deg c at an amazing rate causes a 50 foot wide 120 foot long mass of white water which is great for seabass just use a bubble float a fathom of line a 20g weight an size 14 hook annd use sand eels as bait from shop. Hook in mouth out through top of head cast. Out as far into white water and when it washes to edge of quiet water reel in bam no problem tasty too also fish fir mackerel from spredboat using hand line 6 large flies can catch 6 boxes in a tide when on or a few cod =) love it my time .22 silenced ruger 10/22 rimfire handy while river fishing
so em big ferrets (look awful like mink;-) don't get to eat my fishys before I catch them lol

same mackerel on a whip, tiny fixed spool, but I prefer to strip down to one feather....or a small Dexter wedge.

Once you get 2-3 on it gets to be a bit of a lumpen weight as they all swim against each other.

Got a mate who keeps a fly rod on his boat for when they get amongsta surface shoal. Great fun, for him..i hate fly fishing...

hahaha fly fisherman on a boat must be popular. Confined spaces are bad, nearly smacked my mate in the head with a 6oz lead glitter jig armed with huge circle hooks that way. I will never forget the dirty look he gave me after it flew 6 inches from his head hahaha.
