EADD Film Recommendations v5 - TBC

I've been watching a few horror films as of late... mostly courtesy of Netflix.

Amityville Horror - I was expecting this to be terrible but was pleasantly surprised. It was by no means an exceptional film, rather just some creepy fodder for an evening but I enjoyed it all the same.

Insidious: Chapter 2 & Insidious - I put them out of order because that is how I watched them, being as the first I listed was on Netflix. Again, I'd had no expectations of these & I rather enjoyed chapter 2. Seemed somewhat more scary to me than the first one somehow despite it having better reviews. I think it was down to more old fashioned tension. Worth watching them once I'd say if you like scary films.

Recently watched "Wake in Fright". Obscure Australian film from 1970. Posh English type gets "trapped" in the Australian outback as a schoolteacher. Lots of alcoholism and depression ensues. Discourages one from visiting the outback. Really dark.

Well, if you like weird and dark Australian stuff, I thoroughly recommend:

Bad Boy Bubby (1983)

Brilliant. Also Wolf Creek (2005), but I suppose everyone's seen that by now. (And your film above sounds similar...)

Wolf Creek's excellent, but my fave for twisted aussie horror is 'Loved Ones' (spose everyone must've seen that too...) (i'll try the ones you mentioned too - i like a good australian film)

Has anyone seen the trailer for the forthcoming Mad Max film? From what i recall of it-it looks pretty good but i've always been a fan of the Mad Max films.
Edit: Just googled it and it's full title is 'Mad Max: Fury Road and stars Tom Hardy as Mad Max & Charlize Theron also stars. I think Tom Hardy will make a great Mad Max,i've yet to see him in a film where he hasn't impressed me. He was very good in 'Bronson'

Just the second one unfortunately. I might watch the original Carrie tonight. Would be wrong to watch the re-make first.

As for other quasi-horror films, I watched Dark Skies last night. I wouldn't be giving much away to say it's about aliens as there is a quote at the very start that is a giveaway. It's nothing original but as a critic says, "Dark Skies may not be a revelatory experience, but as a pure exercise in genre filmmaking, it excels". Basically, if you are a fan of the X-Files & Steven Spielberg, this film will satisfy immensely. I really thought Keri Russell did a great job as a terrified mum.

NSFW:
It was uncanny how Josh Hamilton is a Mulder look alike & despite being a sceptic at first does say he believes... I want to believe anyone? :sus:

those all sound like good movies.

interesting how Night Crawler was the only movie I couldnt see in the local multiplex but was playing at the more indie theaters... the first time that has happened in over 5 years!

i like small theaters, but sadly the conveniencce of the multiplex gets the better of me, especially when out on dates
