EADD Film Recommendations v5 - TBC

Watched Sin City 2 A Dame to kill for. Much like the first but sadly little fresh material. Eva Green s tits are in fine form and Mikey Rourke is the best overall... solid 6.5 out of 10.

Watched The Edukators last night, Not sure i agreed with all of its politics, but a great film.

May I also throw out a rec for Dogtooth? Fantastic Greek mindfucker about a cultish overprotective family.

Did get around to watching the second half of Edge of Tomorrow and it doesn't improve does it? I did try but it just happens to be a great steaming turd of a film and there's only so much a boy can forgive.

Tonight's watchings was Lucy (the Luc Besson one) and is a good example of how even an utterly ridiculously-plotted actiony fillum can be done properly with style 'n' wit 'n' panache 'n' that. At least as bloody stupid in terms of plot but not mind-crushingly dull with it. It's silly but enjoyably so. Did leave me craving ketamine in quite a big way though. I won't explain why in case folk don't know the plot but it seems Msr Besson has been at the dissociatives of late :D

POTENTIAL SPOILER

NSFW:
From what i gathered and recall from what a work colleague told me about the film, its essentially the same kind of plot line as Limitless? It sounds like the kind of film im bound to enjoy, given such subject matter, no matter how ridiclous the plot may be. Sometimes im able to swicth off 'critical viewing' mode and just enjoy a film for what it is, whether that be Will Smith punching an Alien in the face or something even more ridiculous as in Indepence Day, a terribly acted, terribly plotted, terribly hammy film, but i like a bit of big budget flashy mindless film action every now and then.

I watched that two nights ago myself... I thought it was a very interesting premise & good fodder for an entertaining action film. It's reminiscent of other sci-fi action thrillers, sticks to a certain formula even with the relatively unique starting each day over twist. Not necessarily a bad thing in my books, but I wasn't expecting anything other than your standard crowd-pleasing blockbuster.

Very keen to see Lucy myself too.

I watched Dredd yesterday. Very good remake that ticks all the right boxes for what it is.

Lastly, an excellent film - Take Shelter

A very good portrayal of a man, Michael Shannon, questioning what he sees as he loses his mind & prepares his family for an impending disaster. With the added bonus of the support of Jessica Chastain, as a rather yummy mummy. ;)<3

I thought that dredd was surprisingly good as well - well it's not too hard following that awful stallone one (where he takes his bloody helmet off all the time - i nearly switched off as soon as that happened). I actually remember some of the plot of the new dredd from the comics, and it captured the feel much better (and a much more accurate chin too)

Karl urban is just great imo :)

Watched Lucy. Pretty good for an actiony sortofscifi...short on the sci but uite enjoyable and moves with good momentum.

hackneys finest looks good been waiting for ages to see it, since i saw the trailer. I thibk its out in dec or jan

^ Yeah I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was, which is why it took me so long to get around to watching it. Same with Godzilla.

^ Sounds promising.

Anyone here seen The Drop yet? I'm going to see it tomorrow afternoon...

Just got back from seeing The Drop

Excellent film. Quite slow burning through the first 2/3rds but the last 1/3rd is very suspenseful & satisfying. Great acting all around. Go see this film!

very worthwhile watching. SHM you might find it particularly interesting given your travels.

I've never watched the Sopranos, but he plays a downbeat bar owner who used to run a small crew... really not the same thing at all but he put in a good performance.

PRE destination:) - watch it !

As above so below - I thought it was going to be a cheap rip off, it wasn't! Creepy

bearlove: yeah definately disturbing. Opened my eyes to the political history of the country though for sure.

I just finished off watching Oculus

Reasonably interesting horror movie that does look rather set to become a franchise. I thought it had the balance right between gore & scares. I do prefer horror movies with more of the latter.

NSFW:
The ending was a bit predictable in many ways though, I mean c'mon! I knew someone was getting on the end of that contraption. =D
