EADD 2012 Official UK Mushroom Thread

I "think" there is one in the top left corner, i can see a stem, and a slightly out of focus cap, is that the one you're missing? Is it even a shroom?
 
I can see it, but dunno if it is or not, could be tho. might also be a dark blade of grass. hrmn.

A few days ago while on my way to work I noticed a mushroom breakout on a patch of grass next to the pavement, in an inner city area of the town where I live. I was wondering if they were the magic sort, but as I don't know anything about mushies and wouldn't want to end up in dialisis for having picked up the wrong ones I decided to ignored them. They must have been, because they had all disappeared by the time I got home in the evening! Someone got in there pretty quick :D. It's a pretty rough/alternative side of town, so no surprise there
 
Went for a nice wander around the fields of Cheshire.. found absolutely nowt apart from a half-maggot-eaten puffball. Pft.

what would've happened in a pretty decent part of town? maybe someone would've called the DEA?

I just found funny how quickly they disappeared. Maybe in a pretty decent part of town they would have been ignored, I don't know. Or maybe they would have disappeared even faster!

Ceres (or anyone for that matter), how do I dry the aminita? the one in the pic I posted with the mug above?

I've never picked or dried one before. Do I just treat it like a lib to dry? Are aminitas best eaten wet or dried?

meh, they aren't my area unfortunately. I woke up this morning to find a huge half moon film of white over my kitchen work surface which is black n shiny. couldn't for the life of me think what it could be until I remembered it's where I'd put the aminita down for 5 mins so it must of been a spore print. huge too
 
Went hunting again today found mostly dark brown ones but cam across a couple of interesting ones can anyone tell if this is a liberty cap?:

Re top pics: Liberty caps have brown gills. Disregard anything that has white ones. They can be a similar shape and colour though.

Marmz I dried Amanitas in the oven on the lowest heat possible with the door slightly ajar to let any moisture out. If you eat them wet you'll be violently sick.. something in the drying process detoxifys them somehow. I cant remember why though. Also dry them a.s.a.p. If you leave them overnight they go really maggotty.

Amanitas give quite a nice speedyish high if you smoke them actually. Nice in a bong. :)

Ah, ok Yella, cheers. I decided to dry it last night but it's in an airing cupboard. I'll check for maggots like I do my liberties, but it seems alright atm. Tonight I'll put it in an oven that's turned off but that's cooling down, if that makes sense.

I didn't know they could be smoked, since I'm sure liberties can't, so I assume it has a different active than psilocybin? Not sure what it is, since I know amanitas are legal but I dunno much about them

I've picked and taken a few pics today of some of the ones Botfly and Rockstar have posted, and then photographed them side by side with some liberties so it's easer to see the difference between them, because it's not always obvious for those who aren't sure, until you can see them side by side. I'll post them in a bit for you Botfly
 
I went through a regrettable stage in me early 20's when we kept trying to bong dried libs, powdered them and bonged them...just a rank tasting waste of time. Can't remember what cunt told us it was a wild trip. that was the problem then, you relied on the wisdom of drug-bores for your "facts", or the one or two well thumbed books on drugs your local library might have had.

Amanita Muscaria is a totally different animal than psilocybes. I don't see anything particularly appealing about eating them.

I've seen hundreds of them in my lifetime,and never once been tempted to pick one...

Heard too many negative/hit-and-miss reports.
 
I'm in agreement with you both. I'm mildly curious but I doubt I'd try them. I'm giving this one to someone else.
My little silly Collins Mushroom Guide says 'rarely fatal' for them, but I value my organs too much to give em a whirl properly. I know someone who did and he said it sent him rather crazy for the afternoon, but that was taken fresh I think.

Apparently Robert Plant used to like munching them. So I was told yesterday

Unfortunately been there too... putting off sleep the next day after a rave, fancying a bit of altered perception, but didn't fancy getting locked into a full-blown trip. Figured smoking them might give a shorter effect... wasted hundreds attempting to smoke them on a can-pipe haha. Oh to have that luxury this year! Bumped into a few fellow pickers this year and everyone seems to agree that it's been a bit of a bummer...

ehhh the last batch went sour on us. by sour i mean black and slimy. so it had to be thrown out but the more i look at pictures of libs the more i doubt they weren't the right ones.

our trip yesterday was better, but still nothing to brag about, compared to reports of 1000 libs+ and a friend of a friend of a friend said he got a shopping bag's worth in 2 hours but wouldn't tell us where the field was

this was in louth... i think there's a few cow fields south of me (between swords and balbriggan) that would be good as i pass them on the bus every day but i've no bike to get down there with and i don't know the area too well. i'd go down to howth for a hike withcha if you wanted on of these weekends. is there much time left? how goes your picking?

anyway we found some that were definite libs but they were mostly small because it hadn't rained in a few days and everything was starting to dry up. we didn't pick that many as it was starting to get dark. (instead of picking mushrooms while the sun was shining, we were eating a pizza) some of the ones we found earlier on we weren't too sure about, and in a nearby wood we found some wavy cap look alikes and some weird purple ones, and maybe some baby amanita muscaria. so that's what the pictures are of - things we're not too sure about. please nobody laugh at the amount of them, we're only new.

so, in order, there's the first ones we picked we're not too sure about, then the ones we think are definites, then the whole family, then the unidentified definitely-nots (purple bastard, what looks to me like baby amanitas in red and yellow, doubtful wavy caps), and then the ones that might be libs at the bottom.
