As a result of the summer being the worst dampest coldest fucking one in history ever im guessing the mushrooms are gonna start growing early this year ..

Any body seen any liberty caps about the place ?

planning a tryp to the mountains of wicklow in mid september and i dont wanna be left down and damp or high and dry or watever the fuck

I don't know where you live, but it's been warm for months - even when raining, here. I've got a fan on, because my flat is so warm. Really weird summer. I wouldn't think it's coming for a good while, yet.

Wherever ive seen them, its always been in low lying fields, next to pretty big rivers, not high up on the mountains. Those low lying fields have always been cattle fields. The mushrooms tend to grow in clumps where there was a once nice big cow pat, but said pat has now rotted/washed away, been eaten by flies and beatles, consumed as nutrients by growing grass and shrooms (these spots can be identified easily because the grass is always taller and thicker where there used to be a nice fertilizing pat of cow shit for it to feast on). Someone else told me that, its not just something i made up.

This might be why your mouth tastes like shit after eating them LOL.

Im pretty certain they'd be out right now in the low lying, riverbank catlle fields of mid wales.....

As treacs said, it's a bit too warm at the momement for anything to flourish really. I imagine maybe some very isolated areas might have the odd few there but probably not worth the petrol getting to them.

Still a bit warm I think (Cork), a drop in temps will trigger the fruiting. Next few weeks should see the season start.

If you look high enough up in the hills there's a goods chance you'll find some.
I've been finding plenty for a while in Wales, but they're only in numbers worth targeting above about 250 metres, and even there they are still quite localised, so expect to have to walk a bit.
Pick a day that's cloudy, but dry so the caps are pale and they're easier to spot than when they're wet.

Yep, even a sunny day if it's cool will be good for the same reason.

I never understood while people when I was young insisted you HAD to be out at dawn to pick successfully. You can't see the fucking things at dawn, they're all soaked in dew and dark brown. At least wait till the dew has been burned from the grass.

Another top tip, if the sun is out, walk across the field with the sun behind you, this will let the sun pick out the shrooms for you, easy to spot. I only found this out a few years ago after walking across a field and finding nothing, walking the other way though, with the sun behind, all was revealed.

Ok guys found some 70 or so with a few friends a couple of days ago in the hills of West Yorkshire. Make no mistake these are definitely liberty caps I've been picking for over a decade. Hopefully they will be more abundant in the next few weeks or so.

But the SEASON HAS STARTED. If you have regular spots where you've found them around August/September time before, good chances are there will be some now ;)

Went picking earlier but stuggled to find any liberty caps. Found a few what looked like to be wavy caps but I'm not truly sure if they are wavy caps. I know liberty caps aren't the only psychedelic ones on the UK.

Wavy caps, often grow on imported wood chips e.g. around park areas things like that. And I wouldn't be too confident spotting them. Normal liberty caps have been growing on the hills in the UK for eons though lol. And I'm always sure when I find one (or several!).

Wavy caps come later don't they, never tried them, saw them a few times years ago when I was landscape gardening, but never picked them as we always had numerous lib patches to choose from, the wavy caps look really unpleasant to eat....

Wow, then maybe I'll go and have a look in the next few days / weeks.

FYI, here is the list of active species that have been documented growing in the UK;

Conocybe kuehneriana
Copelandia cyanescens
Gymnopilus junonius
Gymnopilus purpuratus
Gymnopilus sp.
Inocybe corydalina var. corydalina
Inocybe haemacta
Panaeolus castaneifolius
Panaeolus cinctulus
Panaeolus fimicola
Panaeolus olivaceus
Panaeolus retirugis
Panaeolus sp.
Pluteus salicinus
Psilocybe cyanescens
Psilocybe fimetaria
Psilocybe semilanceata
Psilocybe strictipes

(Most frequently found are bold)

But OT, I get the best yield after a warm/hot summer in the UK, I reckon our liberty capped friend's mycelium thrives in warm conditions and the fruit bodies appear once the temp drops in the autumn. So if you've had a nice hot spell in your part of the UK, I'd hazard a guess that you'll probably end up with the higher yield if you have a few nice spot's to clear.
