EADD 2012 Official UK Mushroom Thread

Your commiserations are appreciated Polka. You've eased my pain this evening and given me renewed hope! Haha! ;) I'm off darn sarf tomorrow for a few days meself as it goes, just north of the Big Smoke, but definitely past Watford. Different sort of fields round there where I'm going, but gonna have a little trip out one of the days I think, see if there's anything to be had.Been warmer down there though by all accounts. Don't hold out much hope, but we shall see. Optimism, that's where it's at. I'm sure the mushie little brothers respect that and will reward it accordingly! :)

I was a bit leary being out in the fields as it goes. Went as far away from the road and local farmhouses as I could having a good scan about for anyone at all nearby. Class A innit, 7 years max just for bloody picking a few mushrooms as you walk by in a field. Had visions of boys in blue screeching to a halt in the middle of a dirty great fucking bog chucking the cuffs on with a 'you're nicked son.' Would pay good money to see them try to pull it off actually, probably need the chopper to have half a bloody chance at it which would strike me as being somewhat wasteful of resources even to bring in a major Class A possessing member of the criminal classes, but in the history of the known universe has anyone, at all, ever, actually been nicked for this since the Govt went all fucking fruit-loop on it?

Still too dry round my area so not gonna even bother looking. Had about two weeks of dry weather so need at least a few days of heavy rain for good chance of anything growing.

if you found five or so and broke them up to spread the spores about and came back in a few days would there be more?

Slow but steady in the Northwest, visited the usual spot twice and found about 50 and 150 per person consecutively... The second time we arrived to find a guy wandering round with a hefty carrier bag's worth though so probably as good as ever, just pipped to the post!

Just need this incessant rain to piss off and all should be revealed!

I said it last year but worth mentioning again that i found a load last year on a cricket pitch. Worth checking if you have a semi rural pitch nearby before you go tramping off across country, i felt pretty stupid.

yep, pretty much any sports pitch, even well tended gardens often have plenty, the bonus being they are easy to spot, the downside being many local scrotes will know about the ones on sports pitches, and beat you to it by picking the shrooms as they just emerge and are tiny, what a waste....

private gardens are often very good indeed

Went up the mountain on Saturday. Nothing. Still too dry. Found 2 p. strictipes but no p. semilanceata.
I think October will be the month as usual.

probably not in a few days...I think that takes until next season, but it could be as little as a few weeks. Why don't you go find out using a search engine? a Load of amateur funghi picking drugaddled people is not the right place to get a definitive answer, in my opinion.

I'm also going for a hunt tomorrow, hopefully the fields will be laden, it's been pretty chilly and wet around here

I may go and have a look myself now I'm up to a shortish walk with the dog, never used to like them TBH as the tea always left me with horrible nausea so I'd always do acid instead. I quite like MM simple, eat 'em fresh idea though, I'm betting there are shed loads up in them there hills:)

I planned to go a hunting today, but we've had a frost last night, any chance the little guys would survive it?

Well, I'd never spotted any in my garden until the year after I took some from my dad's old garden and stamped them around my lawn. I'm currently getting 20 - 40 a year in my garden - not loads, but enough for 2 or 3 light trips (which I prefer).

i went to my usual place beside edinburgh again today but found very few shrooms. its not quite time yet here. maybe another week should do it.

a shitload of rain is on the way so thats bound to get the mushies growing.
