Drugs in the workplace (Merged)

you're right about the food industry. ever watch the show "No Reservations?" if not i certainly recommend it. anthony bourdain is easily one of the few people worth watching on television.

from wikipedia:

Adding to his untamed image, Bourdain is a former user of cocaine, heroin, and LSD. In Kitchen Confidential he writes of his experience in a trendy SoHo restaurant in 1981: "We were high all the time, sneaking off to the walk-in refrigerator at every opportunity to 'conceptualize.' Hardly a decision was made without drugs. Cannabis, methaqualone, cocaine, LSD, psilocybin mushrooms soaked in honey and used to sweeten tea, secobarbital, tuinal, amphetamine, codeine and, increasingly, heroin, which we'd send a Spanish-speaking busboy over to Alphabet City to get." In the same book, Bourdain frankly describes his former addiction, including how he once resorted to selling his record collection on the street in order to raise enough money to score drugs.

I work in an office with a prominent law firm on the same floor. I use the bathroom regularly to snort my opana. Been doing that for a longgggg time now. It is awesome to sit at my computer in a quasi, half nod :)

I tripped on mushrooms one time at a cabinet factory where I worked and took out a whole line of overhead lights with the forklift. They UA'd me but I was on probation so I didn't have anything else in my system and they didn't test for shrooms.

I work in a costcutters which is a small supermarket, I really don't think anyone takes drugs there other than me, which is weird because I have read on this thread that it is very common that there are drug users in most workplaces.

Anyways I have never taken drugs in my workplace as I am probably too scared (lol) due to the fact that I work in the butchery section of the store and I think it would be very dodgy if I took drugs during work.

For the past 2 weeks I have been on benzos every day at work; first on 2 days, 150mg of nitrazepam. The rest of the days, between 2 and 4mg of clonazepam per work day. Nobody had any idea. Can't remember what I got done on the first two days though.

I've never had an actual job yet but when I, say, work with my brother in law his co-workers are all opioid fiends/coke heads/alcoholics... somehow my brother in law limits himself to beer every few days.

All this drug use must cause a lot of mood-variability which I would imagine might get especially annoying for the sober ones.

i work in a old folks home, & let me tell you that when giving, for example, a 2.5mg dose of endone, and the stock strength is 5mgs/tab, the remaining 2.5mgs isn't discarded down the drain, lol.

i personally enjoy a jay on my break at 2am when doing nightshifts... but sssh! don't tell anyone! if i was in a acute care setting it'd be different story, but not alot happens overnight at an old folks home xD

Using drugs at work

I'm considering crossing yet another line I thought I'd never cross...

I've been on dilaudid for almost 2 year now and only started injecting maybe 4 months ago. I take a shot In the morning and usually just "tough it out" at work, dealing with the withdrawals until I get home...

But it's getting old. Approx 11 hours goes by between my morning shot and when I get home for my evening fix, and I have to say, those last few hours at work can be hell. Even when the WD aren't too bad, I'm just not in top form. I'm at the stage where even injecting doesn't actually get me high, it just levels me out and returns me to baseline.

I've tried snorting half a pill mid day, but it just doesn't work. I know that if I were to bring a pre-loaded rig and took a shot after lunch, it would easily see me through the day and I'd be much more productive.

Who out there has taken their hobby to work with them?

Are you glad you did?

I've done it a few times. Usually meth, opiates a time or two. Depends on the job, some places I've worked really didn't give a shit if I was high. Not sure how shooting up in their bathroom would have went over if they'd found out. Never got caught but I got twacked once and just walked out. That job sucked anyway.

uh....

Not to be a downer, but I think you might wanna reconsider your usage.

it is your body, you can do with it what you like. But I'd assume you'd be a happier brighter more alive person if you didn't have to consume a drug every 11 hours in order to just feel normal.

thats my answer...

he wasn't asking for your opinion on his drug use, he has more than likely considered that before..

Just FYI, anyone who posts in a public forum opens themselves up to the opinions of others.

yes, I've shot up at several jobs, the most memorable was the time I ate the 100mcg patch right before walking into work, and then about 3 hours later having my boy stop by with 3 of the 4mg dilaudid's and I shot those up in the restroom. but at the same time, I was fired from all of those jobs, not because they knew I was shooting up, but I'm sure they knew something was up when Iwas leaving early all the time and stuff. or there would be days where I'd come in sick and just be an asshole to everyone.

No i would never shoot up at work... (when i had a job, and will soon) have you thought about plugging it, lower BA, but it lasts longer, ten u can IVonce yo're back home... i'm not sur if its its oxymorphone or hydromorphone that has a pretty high BA plugging.... it worth looking into...

Coz i imagine once you've done your hydromorphone shot, you'll be wanting to ake anothe 2-3 hours later...

i dunnon really coz oxymorphone is't commercialiçsed here, and i've heard great things about the "dilly rush", but i must wear off quite faast

i could be talking bolloks, i'm sure there are pleny more people ho know more than i do...

i'll send this over to OD where mos Iv opie users seem to hang out...

(mods feel free to send it back if its not appropriate)

Personally, I never shot up on the job. But very easy to go to the restroom and have a quick oxy snort. Made the work much less stressful....theresa
:)

Pluggging wouldn't work, I'd have to lay there on the bathroom floor for 15-20 mins, not exactly convenient.

Prepping a shot on the scene would also prove difficult, so I figure in the morning I'd load a syringe and bring it with me. Then all I have to do is wipe down with alcohol and shoot.

Like I said, I've tried snorting, but it just doesn't affect me as well (snorting has always been my least favorite roa anyway).

In any case, I know my body and I'm very in tune with how dilaudid effects me under any and all circumstances, roa, etc. I mean seriously, after almost 2 years naturally I know my way around this stuff! I know that if I shoot half a pill after lunch I'll be good to go until I get home (it takes about 6 hours before i feel like I "need" a shot - by 12 hours it becomes top priority and wd become hard to ignore).

As it stands now, I use my dilaudid nasal spray and probably go through 4mg of "upkeep" in the afternoon anyway, but it just barely does the job. I figure I might as well just bang the 4mg and be done with it.

But purely psychologically speaking, it just "feels wrong" to bring the habit to work. On the other hand, let's say i try it tomorrow (which I will do, I have to at least try it once) and it works and i feel better and have a much more productive afternoon than usual - what's the real downside?

Right now I kind of pride myself that I make it through the workday without a fix, it's at least a partial illusion that I have things "under control," but what's the point? Between 3 and 7 (when I go home) I feel terrible and most days easily perform sub-par. If an afternoon shot fixes that, from a practical standpoint it's a good solution. Ok, the drugs won, but i think that battle was lost a while back.

Naturally quitting is the best option, but until the day comes when I feel that I really have to, as long as I'm comfortable, getting my work done and not letting my life slip away from drug use, I figure everything is ok.

Aside from using more frequently than I used to, my life is still pretty much the same as it was 2 years ago before the dilaudid came into play. The only big difference is that the dillies now give me something to look forward to when I get home!

The only thing that the drugs have done that has a regular, negative impact on my life is weekdays between 3 and 7 I feel like shit and it affects my work. The whole point of debating the afternoon shot at work is to take care of that.

If it works, then ironically I will have used drugs to help fix a major problem in my daily life - caused by drugs!

Just to clear it up, you do know that O><ymorphone isnt dilaudid and is in fact opana by brand name right? If its dillies then were talking about hydromorphone.

I have to agree though, you are spot on, once the op crosses that line, it will be more like 3 shots at work not 1, and no, he wont mean for it to get like this, and will swear up and down it wont, but it will. For me, a shot lasts 3-4 hours tops. Unless its a huge amount, then it can last 6-8.

I have been on dilaudid/hydromorph for 7 years. yes, of courrse it made/makes my day at work better, but t has its perks and it has its jerks. One of the bad ones and possibly the worst, is the e><tra pill consumption. Very costly if one is buying them. thank god I have prescriptions for both short and long acting versions of Hydromorphone.

but yeah, be carefull, people are smart. When I started bringing pre-loaded happy sticks to work with me, within days, my dad/boss got a call from someone bitching about me being in the washroom 20 mins at a time multiple times a day. i am more productive though.:p
