Drugs, a question for everyone.

Humans have a natural drive to get intoxicated imo.
Jus go with it! ;)
E2a. Drugs don't HAVE damage you do they?
Although, yes in a lot of cases they are damaging.
My 2p.

what do you mean by "damage you" ? or by "damaged people"? seriously, its a very general question....

generaly though, imho, the more reckless, desparate or ignorant one is in the first place, the more pain/hurt one will get/inflict from drug use.

It depends which drugs - being an intravenous heroin user is a very different use of drugs to tripping on mushrooms once a month.

I don't know whether people who use drugs are anymore damaged than non-drug user. There's a big, easy argument that everyone uses when they get arrested "I use drugs because I'm damaged" in the desperate hope that some fucking pig-ignorant..er..pig..and judge will go easy on you. Or if your parents catch you taking drugs it's easy to say "Oh I'm damaged". I don't think drug users are anymore damaged thany anyone else. It's in the media too - you don't often get people saying "I take drugs, I enjoy them, I have no problem". It's always someone saying "I can't handle life". Obviously that's the image that takes hold because it's forbidden to portray drugs in a positive light in any mainstream media.

Drug users just enjoy taking drugs - like some people enjoy playing rugby or others enjoy climbing mountains. Are you damaged if you enjoy risking your life climbing a mountain?

I was going to write a post about this sort of thing last night but I think I got too fucked up to type. It wasn't going to be about damage though, so much as pain/pleasure. We take drugs to subdue pain (both physical and emotional), and to experience increased pleasure (again both physical and emotional). The post was going to be longer than that. But this one isn't.

Do drugs cause damage? Yes they can do, but it's pretty fucking incredible the way the body can recover from the assault of chemicals we here BLers unleash on ourselves.

i'm really not feeling the presupposition that "drugs are damaging" which is implicit in the OP.

that'd be like me saying to a lesbian for example "do you fuck dudes cuz you're straight or are you straight cuz you fuck dudes?"

basically assuming all females are straight, whereas you assume all drug users are damaged.

Yes it is a false presupposition. In my experience, most people are fucked up one way or another, whether they are drug users or not. I can't think of anyone I know with more than a passing acquaintance who I would describe as being "well-adjusted". Well, maybe one person, but they're deluded :D

The people I know who seem least "damaged" are youngsters. But that was me too, all those years ago. It's just a matter of time.

It's just a matter of time.

Woah, comforting!

I know more damaged people that hardly ever take drugs

everybody is a bit crazy and fucked up. define normal

y'have to be responsible and monitor yourself. Some people love to get themselves all fucked up and destroy themselves through long-term drug use. Some people are ill-educated and fuck themselves up without intending to. Takes all sorts of folks. be educated, be responsible, be wise! Enjoy yourself! Learn, love, poke your skull into the giddy mysteries of existence and lick you lips and be a good fella.

Yep wise words. i always research and look into everything

some people on here taking 50 etizolam a day and stuff like that, mindblowing

You kinda have it right there:)

Without trying to define 'damaged' I don't think I could even begin to speculate on the OPs question, I get the general jist.

Since I don't think you can properly define 'damaged' and since there is no way to conduct any testing with a genuine control group i.e. the same people I can't see there being any clear answer.

For me life is an exercise in damage limitation

the fact the body can turn start destroying itself is nuts, cancer,

"When a bird is alive...It eats Ants, When the bird is dead… Ants eat the bird. time & Circumstances can change at any time… Don’t devalue or hurt anyone in life."

the big old cycle

I believe, taking your sentences in their broadest meaning and without getting lost in nit-picking definitions, that damaged people seek drugs, which in turn damage them further, and that it's a vicious downward spiral.
I know if I hadn't had such a fucked up adolescence, drugs would never have had the appeal they did for me, and maybe I'd be less of a fuckup today. In fact I'm fairly certain of it.

To be fair man, I've gotta agree with this. It's a generalisation, and not always true, but I've met a hell of a lot more fucked up people who do drugs, than I have in the general population. If your life's screwed, your gonna look for any way to improve it.

Still, there's a hell of a lot of drug users who aren't fucked. Maybe the people with the worse backgrounds are drawn to the harder drugs. If your life's already fucked, your not gonna think getting addicted to smack is gonna make it much worse

Wow, my 1page length comment I wanted to submit deleted itself before I could submit. I am amused. Will re type tomorrow.

I think people with mental health issues are drawn to drugs. I also think that drugs can ruin a fully 'normal' human, but it takes a lot. As for physical damage, the legal drugs are the ones to look at. Opiates, amphetamines, psychedelics and weed cause no real harm, but fags will fucking kill you (50/50).
