Dope addicts: Does weed make you feel weird about your dope use/addiction?

Marijuana will have you second guessing yourself alot. Maybe it's got something to do with the delayed response time that stops you from acting on impulse alone. I don't know, I'm no doctor.

Either way, I will still go about my routine and shoot my dope whether I'm already high, smoking while I do a shot, or smoke a blunt after my shot. I can't honestly say that I've actually stopped and thought to myself, "Why am I doing this to myself?"

I hope I don't offend anyone, but could this be a good thing in a way? I don't use H. and personally view it as more harmful/addictive than weed, so it almost seems like a "good thing" to me.
its very debatable whether weed is worse that opiates. my father was a huge pot smoker and 10 yrs after quitting is very mentally unstable, has schizophrenia etc. on the other hand i know many ex and current smack addicts, they seem to be a lot healthier and have no long-lasting effects. smack is more addictive, more costly, so it disrupts your daily pattern. but not really physically.

You've got to be kidding me. Heroin is not physically addictive? You've obviously never caught an addiction to heroin. In fact, I don't even believe you know any current smack addicts. If you did you would know the physical symptoms of heroin withdrawals. A heroin addict will always be more mentally unstable than any pot head.

Maybe there's just something wrong with your dad but every pot head or ex-pot head is in alot better shape than any heroin addict on his best day.

I get more positive thoughts when i smoke weed. If someone offered me a free shot of heroin, i would second guess myself, I would do plunge it into my veins just because it feels good and theirs nothing wrong with it. I realized that second geussing yourself is just a not very useful habit of the mind and nothing really good comes out of it in most cases. I do not believe my essence is of the mind.

Lacy, (sup btw...long time)...anyways, imo...it's because lady chiva (weed...the weed goddess in india....I know chiva is heroin in the states...least on the west coast :) )...WEED makes you realize things on a finer scale..be it reality...be it what's going on in your own life...be it..negative thigns....Weed definately helps me analyze...like it literally points out the negative shit in life...and hence sometimes gives me some badass anxiety...I don't smoke an eigth a day anymore or anything life that, but I still enjoy my bud...I can't say i've ever gotten the feeling(s) you're talking about when on dope...i think you said it best..."weed and dope go together like salt and pepper"...hahha... ugh...fucking dope sickness...but then there's always more dope....and then weed to make you feel guilty! So keep smoking that shit! ;)
Maybe mary is telling you to "FUCKING STOP...or at least slow the fuck down honey" ....maybe? just maybe?

Later you filthy fucking great artist you

Marijuana makes you more introspective of oneself, and that can be a good or bad thing. The stigma society places on the individuals choices as to what makes one feel "better" is the only reason for this guilt, regret, remorse, etc. We were raised to "feel wrong" when we engage in our choice. That is a sad fact, and shows how powerful the government propaganda machine was, and still is. I find keeping busy physically, or doing something that is mentally challenging relieves a lot of that sensation. Subliminally feeling "I'm doing something, positive or just legal, this is a good thing ACCORDING TO SOCIETY!". Once again, the "master of puppets" imprint rears its' ugly head.

what do you mean "We were raised to "feel wrong" when we engage in our choice"? you say that as if the only reason one might consider it beneficial to him or herself not to inject heroin several times a day is because society tells us it's a bad idea. how can you discount the possibility that someone might have their own qualms about engaging in self-harming activities? after all, as erroneous as they often are, the ideas adopted by societies were originally spawned by individuals. furthermore, i can think of examples which would contradict your theory. i don't think it's necessary to go into more detail until you address the point i already made though.

you read wrong. to your credit, his post could have been worded more clearly but he was responding to someone saying that heroin was more harmful than weed and when he said "but not really physically" he meant that heroin wasn't really physically more harmful than weed. that is definitely a case that can be made.

also your statements about heroin addicts always being better off than potheads are simply not true.

that is not always true. i've known many current or former heroin addicts that are very normal and not mentally unstable. i've also met some that are the opposite. same goes for weed. it just varies person to person.

^ +1. In fact for me, opioids calm my mind down quite a bit whilst weed tends to trigger disturbing mental states in me that I'd rather avoid.

I'm only speaking of the individuals right to "freedom of choice". Whether one wants to engage in SELF destructive activities should be the choice of the individual; for example, a group of men can engage in idiotic behaviors which can and are harmful (i.e. Jackass, Viva la Bam, etc), and it's ok, even funny by society. Yet when one engages in activities which society doesn't approve, we are conditioned to feel wrong. It's just my opinion, and I may be wrong.:\

it seems like you are making separate claims and confusing with each other. let's examine what you said.

in this paragraph you make at least two claims. one appears to be the opinion that people should be able to engage in self destructive acticvities. however, not only is this not really relevant to the topic question, your example also does not support it. it's unclear whether you are talking about illegal behaviors or socially unacceptable behaviors. first of all, jackass, while much of it is legal, is by no means socially acceptable among all of society. there is certainly a segment of society which finds it funny but there is also a large segment of society which finds it deplorable. for example, joe lieberman's actions against the show which resulted in MTV's no longer airing older episodes and moving the time slot back. i'm not even sure here, how you are trying to relate this to drugs. some drugs happen to be illegal and some legal (for example alcohol). some are considered ok by most of society (alcohol), some are considered ok by a large segment of society but not the majority (cannabis) and some are considered not ok by the majority of society (meth). but none of this really addresses the point i was making. i was saying that, it's quite possible to feel regret or remorse or whatever even after engaging in an activity that is condoned by society. for example, some people don't like the idea of consuming alcohol because it's harmful, even if society tells them it's alright to do so. some people wouldn't feel right about performing the stunts on jackass or even watching it, even if society tells them it's funny and ok. so, you really need to clarify what you're trying to say.

By mentally unstable I meant in a manner that the temptation and chance of relapsing and becoming addicted again is greater from a former heroin addict in recovery over a heavy pot smoker(if one can even be addicted to marijuana).

Even then, I'm not saying that all current and former heroin addicts are in bad shape. I'm just saying that if all you do is smoke pot, you're in a lot better shape than a heroin addict who NEEDS his fix.

and we're saying that's not always true. when all i did was smoke pot, i was in horrible shape. i smoked myself in a near paranoid psychosis and i began experiencing physical health problems which i'm still suffering from over three years since quitting. i know many former opiate users who quit and do not appear to suffer any lasting physical health problems. their chance of relapse may be higher, but so what? it really varies by individual.

All I am saying is ones choice should be left up to the individual. Many times, and I think it would be safe to say most times, one feels bad about a personal choice because of the ideals society has imprinted on us. That's all. Sorry to get so far off topic. As I stated, it's an opinion, and I may be wrong.

I don't think we're on the same page. When I say that a pothead is in better shape than a heroin addict, I'm referring to the lifestyles between the two. They are completely different and the life of a heroin addict is always worse off than someone who only indulges in pot. A heroin addict has one thing on his mind, his next fix. A pothead just has to decide what he's gonna want to eat after he gets stoned.

HELL YEA,, pretty much the worst when u are comming off opiates... And when ur high and anxious and look at you track marks it freaks the hell at of me......also makes u have a realty check

weed messed my juvenile mind up at a stage in life when i had teenage angst.

I was a stoner before ever mingling with opiates.

My opiate of choice are poppy pods, and I smoke weed copiously while high on pods. To be honest I never smoke weed right before drinking pod tea becaus I think that the taste would bother me more.

As a lot of people have said, weed tends to point out the negatives in ones life. I've thought about my habit more and worried about it occasionally while high, but I worry about it a whole lot more when in withdrawals.

Interesting - I found that weed proved very helpful when kicking my oxy habit. Wouldnt really squelch the oxy craving but made me chill out a little and be able to think about other things.

you said "every pot head or ex-pot head is in alot better shape than any heroin addict on his best day." that statement is false. i think most people would agree that in general heroin addicts lead worse lifestyles but there are certainly exceptions.

A heroin addict has one thing on his mind, his next fix. A pothead just has to decide what he's gonna want to eat after he gets stoned.

again, false generalization in regards to potheads. when i was a pothead, all i had on my mind was my next high.
