Do your 'real life' friends know about your Bluelight life?

And do they know about your friends on bluelight? If you have met fellow bluelighters, do your real life friends know?? (not saying bluelight friends arent real life friends once you meet them, but im not sure how else to word it)

If they don't know and you told them... would they think you were weird?

Are they anything like my friends and think that there are only freaks on the internet?

I used to think this.... until i have met some very cool people off bluelight.... so now ofcourse im not so closed minded. But my friends are. Unfortunately i have to keep this little world to myself. But in a way... i like that! Keeps life interesting! ;)

mine don't., I still think there's a huge "social" stigma with "internet friends" and "friends that dont have the internet"

if that makes sense, even though I don't care, people just simply dont understand....

this is probably one of the best posts I've seen in a while, because I feel this affects every single person here....

good work Chik!! :D

Most of my close friends are pretty hip to the scene. And those that aren't, know that a number of us are and are cool with it. But i don't have a specific circle of friends that don't know what's going on.

<edit>

oh wait, you're talking about internet friends, not party friends. I don't know, maybe 5 years ago there was a stigma for sure, but it's so mainstream these days, everyone meets people off the net.

Nope. Anyone i meet from perth ... you are my uni friends ;)

I've wanted to tell some .. but i dont think i want them on here really.

I fully agree, my "real" friends get on the internet, and they end up talking to me on ICQ (years ago) and I just get the shits.....

now a few of them talk to me on MSN and basically it's like talking to someone that's never used a computer before....

"WHERE DO I GET FREE PORNO! I GOT A VIRUS CAN U FIX IT PLZ TOMORROW OKAY!? YES PLZ"

that's why I never give my friends my e-mail address, if they need to contact me, they ring me or come around - otherwise tough cookies =D

i think the line is blurred these days

i mean, i just moved interstate, so i dont have 'real life' friends per se. i just have friends that i have met through different places.

i have some friends that i met through bluelight
i have some friends from primary school
i have a friend (and a girlfriend) from deviantart.com

its just useless to try and categorize people until 'online' and 'offline' friends these days.

LET TECHNOLOGY BRING US CLOSER </plur>

Most of my um....'real' friends do bluelighty sort of stuff anyway (albeit without the harm minimisation stuff).

Some of my close friends now about some by BL life. I've only been game enough to admit to one friend that I have a BL wife tho.

But yeah, your friends have to know about it to some degree since BL is such a big part of life

[End quote for junkie thread]

None of my friends actually post on bluelight, but most of them go to pillreports anyway so they have seen the link and know what it is.

I think I told them once when I was really munted and went around a ravey type club searching for bluelight people, because I thought there had to be one somewhere. (I never found one)

good question :)

well ALL of my real time friends are also computer geeks like me except for one so we pretty much chat online as well.

but.... in saying that

no, they don't know I post on bluelight... one does, but I wont tell him my screenname hahaha

Its just that, i wish i could turn to my friends and say something like "hey, im going to a bluelight meet-up! wanna come with me??"

Unfortunately that just wont happen. Ill have to go alone for sure.

Nope... my 'real life' friends don't know that I post here (although I have only just started!!). I kind of like the anonymity (word?!) that comes with making friends on the net... freeee as a bird, no holds barred!

I just wish I could right click and close conversations in real life that I don't enjoy

Ethier they do,
Or they dont.
IF they do,
Chances are their in the scene,
but if their not,
(as im sure you would agree)
Some might find it a little odd,
That we all congregate and waste time talking about shite.
And the drugs of course,
Dont forget the drugs.

I totally know what you mean. I don't hide the fact that I use bl and that I'm a mod here, but I get the sense that my friends think of it as one of those "Oh that's one of Trav's quirky little strange things..." I don't know how to describe how good bl has been for me and the sense of community that this place has.

Some of my friends have asked me about it, and I have tried to get a couple of them into bl, but to no avail...I live for the day when I can meet a really good friend offline who I can introduce to bl and have them love it! =D

Back in Perth.. erm, well all my close friends went out clubbing a lot and would regularly check into BL and pillreports, purely to suss out what they were in store for that evening (the difference being, they would end up with certain items and then check to see if they made a wise purchase or not!!)

In melbourne my closest friends are active BLers. But not all were met "online". so, i guess they don't get too freaked out when i mention i visit this website regularly :) they DO, however, think i'm weird. but no amount of BL acceptance would ever change that!!
