maria sharapova dominated @ the french open. til...
Maria Sharapova, who designs all of her own competition outfits, considers every slightest detail when crafting her tournament wardrobes. For example, there's the color of the clay: "You don't want to clash with the court. Like, say the French Open, you have the red clay, so you have to think about that red background,"
lmao love the fact she is concerned with style for matches, kickin ass and looking good at the same damn time.

ps new obsession? that's great! she's been the model of the moment for me for a minute now, i just want to eat her, or maybe fuck her, i'm not sure. <3

i think both her and anais recently did ad campaign videos. not like tv ads; like rodarte and elle's "The Curve of Forgotten Things" video. but i haven't seen either. just gifs that suggest it. light searching yields nothing about kiko's. she does too much real advertisement. if i didn't "like" so much shit on tumblr i could figure it out. anyway, i think this might be from her video...
tumblr_m51ujvH4tZ1rv0f46o1_r1_500.gif

maybe not.

die antwoord is the only band i am excited about seeing this year at lolla. their interviews are funny stuff. i bet they are great live.

W Magazine has started coming to our house. its highlights are usually the ads, but the latest issue has a short article about grimes.

there is this model named bambi. she's wearing marc by marc jacobs a few posts up. ridiculous name, but she looks the the grown up version of baby brooke. i guess twenty is grown up...

in that last Self Service, she wears the same repossi earrings that daphne wears on the cover...

on earrings, anais is featured in a Lula editorial showing off something pretty...

IDK, they are briefcases, messenger bags, or back backs.
do these still get a bad wrap?
or is it all in the name?

^ i think it's all in the name.

i'm obsessed with Twin Shadow, and waiting for his new album to drop is sheer torture. after 9/21/2012 i will have seen Twin Shadow three times, which is incredible for me because i've never seen a band more than once, not even my friends bands. what's super amazing about George is his amazing hair. he's of mixed ethic backgrounds, and I know i can do the same sort of hairstyles he does and it's driving me crazy, trying to be as super stylish and amazing as he is.

i don't know why you insist on following me around the boards. are you upset that we didn't fail and give up on our chickens in the other SO thread you insisted on being an asshole in? i don't know why you do this, embarrassing yourself by showing everyone here that you don't know the difference between a flattop and a pompadour, or a flattop and a wave. whatever bug you have up your ass about me and my 'hipster-ness' or my relationship with PB and whatever else drives you to compulsively stalk me has no business here. because you only posted here to annoy me, you couldn't have noticed that this is one of the most content filled and devotional threads here on bluelight, and it's rude to pull some lounge shit in the middle of a conversation and for that i apologize, hydro, joe, PiP. whatever your issue is, take it up with me, and leave your bile out of this.

-ahem-

now that that is out of the way, more haircuts. the last vogue or vanity fair i randomly bought off the shelves was talking about how these old retro haircuts were coming back into fashion, and especially for men. and i don't mean Mad Men (swear to god if i hear one more style being described as 'mad menesque' or 'mad men inspired' i'll never watch that god damn show again), i mean like Boardwalk Empire. Twin Shadow has one in his Teddy Boy love letter video for Five Seconds. Michael Pitt (Jimmy Darmody from Boardwalk Empire) keeps his Jimmy haircut for his Prada campaign:

prada-michael-pitt-4.jpg

The style perfectly suited Pitt's character — and for good reason, says the cut's creator, Francesca Paris, who is in charge of hair at "Boardwalk Empire." For the character of Jimmy Darmody, "I wanted to create something that was a little edgy, sexy and a powerful look, and when I was researching men's hairstyles of the day, I noticed that the popular style was shorter on the sides and longer on the top," Paris said. "I wanted him to have a James Cagney-esque look about him. But Michael [Pitt] has a natural boyish quality to his look and his hair is naturally wavy, and wavy hair tends to project a softer demeanor. So I immediately knew I'd have to straighten his hair to toughen his image."

Mastey and Ash give the show — and Pitt's character — props for bringing the style to the public consciousness, but they, and other industry observers, say there are also other factors at work. One is the current pop culture embrace of all things 1920s and '30s, as exemplified in films such as "The Artist" and "Hugo" and fashion for spring.

Another is simply where men happen to be in the pendulum swing of personal grooming. "I think part of the appeal is that for the last couple of years we've really been seeing a trend toward longer lengths and a little more of a scruffier look," Ash says. "And this is a very tailored, exact cut. It's very clean and sharp so it's a nice change."
It's also a haircut that can cover all the bases. "It's slightly risky and aggressive-looking to cut it so short on the sides," Mastey says. "It's not exactly military, it's not exactly punk, but it's somewhere in between. You could put on a suit and tie and still pull it off. If my banker looked like that I wouldn't be taken aback by it."

i like this hair business - my haircut is still evolving, different areas have always grown much faster and more thick then the rest so im letting it fall into place. is how i like to think of it.

cool do, Kenickie.

i spent hours inside barns&noble today reading magazines i couldn't afford. i almost sat on the floor, but i was just sober enough to know better.

there is this magazine, Jalouse. i recognized it because a few issues ago the did an editorial with elle. this issue had an awesome shoot by todd cole. i love him. in this latest issue he photographs a really pretty model with short hair. often with her boyfriend, which in addition to being in a language i cannot read was a big part of the reason i didn't buy it. i can't figure out her name beyond nina...
ninatoddcole.jpg
ninatoddcole2.jpg

there are no good scans that i can find. only these little samples from todd's website. the second photo is too small to even really see her, but it does show todd's knack for taking pictures in the state of cali. in the B&W, the collar gives away she's sporting some louis vuitton rtw. she reminds me of jane birkin.

also there was this magazine called Bullett. it is full of cool stuff. not really girl-y in the sense i want, more truly targeted to girls than emitting the vibe, which threw off the overall aesthetic for me. still, i about read it cover to cover.

it has a shoot with die antwoord...

and a shoot of alice glass. accompanied with this strange interview-esque text. apparently they turned down True Blood wanting to play one of their songs in an episode. she wears mercura nyc, the coolest of cool...
alliceglassmercura.png

aliceglassbullet.jpg

no nyc shades in this one, but my favorite pic of the shoot. again can't find quality scans. just little samples.

it has an interview with claire. it's where that awesome photo of her smoking comes from. grimes interviews like an 8th grade punk. it's cute as fuck.

it has an interview with todd solondz commenting all of his films except Fear, Anxiety & Depression and Life During Wartime. he embarrasses easy about his past work. but if he wasn't insecure we wouldn't have beauties like Happiness and Welcome to the Dollhouse. i didn't read what he had to say about Dark Horse--no spoilers. he talks about liking there being a red censor box covering the fucking in the fuck scene in the american release of Story Telling because it adds another layer of commentary he didn't even have to write. the copy i saw didn't have any red box. also apparently the the american dvd release of Pretty Baby is cut by zooming in, but it wasn't on netflix instant. guess that's one up to the shitty, weird releases that netflix rents.

it has an interview with Purity Ring, but they are not physically beautiful people. still cool to hear their comments on pop or whatever it was about.

it has a section of art chosen and commented on by scarlett johansson and whoever she is dating. the only thing cool was a photo of some girl scarlett said gave her a "street boner." not gonna try to find it online.

it has a short interview and shoot with this actress. named dreama walker--apparently her parents took way too much acid. and, maybe in result, she is freakishly beautiful. the interview was about a movie she did called Compliance. it sounds like shit. i cannot find a photo of her from the magazine. they look so much better than her red carpet pics that google turns up. none the less, pretty, weird looking girl.

another magazine called Collections has this article about the recent role of video in high-fashion ad campaigns. which we have taken note of in this thread. apparently sofia coppola recently directed one. but i am yet into look into that.

the issue they had of Treats features a shoot by this photographer that used a bunch of old valentino dresses in this really gothic tone. it was silly, stupid fun. paolo roversi inspired for sure. but trash.

in the magazine these are two completely separate images, and it looks much better that way.

i had to actually buy two magazines. because they were not expensive and i wanted them. i haven't read those. they have good stuff in them too that i can't wait to share. there are also a plethora of photos from the latest Lula that i am excited to show you all. so much!
