good eye.

okay, can't resist posting this: Mary Puts the Metal in the Petal s/s 12 show write up @ stylebubble The result? Man meets machine meets Mother Earth. An army of petal, metal and print. True flower power.

and the show on youtube @ http://youtu.be/wxO1dbwC7uc

seriously gave me chills. great quote When the first instance of mylar bonded either to tulle or chiffon came creeping in, the iridescent sheen in the dresses that counteracts with the matte knitted sections is the sort of innovation that had me pumping my fist at the show. I think I was saying something like "Oh my god, oh my god, oh my GAWWWD!", similar to my reaction to seeing my first flurry of Northern Lights in Iceland earlier this year.

Is Dior considering taking back Galliano? It is the question on everyone's lips associated with the fashion house. Now that talks with Marc Jacobs have been put on hold and other designers, including Phoebe Philo and Riccardo Tisco, have stated they are happy at their current houses Celine and Givenchy respectively, the options are numbered. And fashion designers have ego's, nobody wants to be the 3rd, 4th or even 5th choice for fill Galliano's shoes.

So who does that leave in the running? Perhaps American designers Jason Wu and Alexander Wang, but can we really see these young designers take the help of such an iconic French House. And could they execute couture?

According to Vogue.co.uk, increasing fashion opinion is that the return of a rehabbed, repentant and rejuvenated Galliano is the only answer. Manolo Blahnik and Franca Sozzani have already added their names to the list of those who would love to see him return, and Arnault said earlier this year that he couldn't see anyone but Galliano in the job.

"I could have asked many other talented designers to do Dior, but it would not have been the same," Arnault said in January. "Take Marc Jacobs, he has been a fantastic success at Vuitton and he has a proximity to the Vuitton spirit, but I don't think it would have been a success with Jacobs at Dior and the other way around, if I had asked John Galliano to do Vuitton, it would not have worked. An essential ingredient in the success of the brand today is the real proximity of Galliano to the talent of Christian Dior."

elle fanning standing at least 5' 7 at 13 years old has caught the fashion industry's attention. she is apparently rodarte's latest muse. there is this whatever video, The Curve of Forgotten Things, that has something to do with that. she looks beautiful, but i'm not a fan of anything she wears in it. besides maybe the plaid blue pants.

but this image has something to do with rodarte too..

never mind the dress. despite its pleasant color, the bird feather shoulder pads ruin any potential it had. the sunglasses are what's cool. an airy revamp of kubrick's lo.

^ every girl should own a pair of heart shapped glasses <3

recently i've become obsessed with perfume, purchased tom ford's private blend tobacco vanille after seeing this review amazing juice for this cold weather. but this of course led into a tom ford obsession. the guy is an amazing designer, damn handsome plus he keeps it real when expressing his view on things. there's an article in Out magazine with the other half of his essence and he mentions on their first date when Tom was 25, talkin bout how he was gonna have a show in Paris, be a millionaire, etc then hired by Gucci @ 29, resurrected the brand and built it to be worth 10 billion 8( dream big peeps.

CURRIN: It’s not Monte Carlo.

FORD: That’s not one of my favorite places in Europe.

CURRIN: [laughs] I’ve never seen it. I’ve never been there. What I know of Monte Carlo is probably mostly informed by your advertisements.

FORD: That’s not what Monte Carlo is. It’s really a lot of people who are overly tanned and have too much collagen and too much money and diamonds that are too big.

CURRIN: It’s like Los Angeles.

FORD: On steroids.

they also had a (sadly) abnormally high number of ethnic models.

they also had a (sadly) abnormally high number of ethnic models.

In the fashion and runaway world this is a good thing. Most girls are not ethnic a large percent is white i think its nice to see different in the industry so i dont see how this is sadly.

and you know what? France24 did a story about how in France women of colour will out number white women in like 10 years, and yet, darker women are flat out ignored by the industry, so this one designer did an entire show with only mulatto and black carribean models. She was absolutely shredded in the media for having a "too ethnic" show, but her ready to wear line completely sold out within the week. WOC have billions and billions in buying power and its a fucking shame no one gives a damn about them. So even if it's only 12 models out of 60, I'm glad the big names like Chanel are realizing that the future is a bit more brown than it is now. I guess Vogue Italia does it's Black Issue once a year, but seriously, once a year? That's all? Still, it's better than Vogue, who does all of 5 black editorials a year.

all these cool new photos of elle are popping up on tumblr, and apparently it is because of a new issue of an annual magazine called A Magazine. rodarte has something to do with this issue, which means elle does too. among all kinds of other stuff, it includes portfolios of both kristen dunst and elle. dunst is icing, but what i am really excited about is the elle focus--showing off the rodarte spring summer 2012 couture collection, photographed by bill owens. i do not really understand how you get this issue of this once a year magazine, or if it has been released yet --everywhere says in december, which it is-- but i am brimming with hopeful anticipation none-the-less.

tpbh i didn't even recognize her. i was like who the fuck is this ugly blonde in that absolutely TERRIBLE pearl jam shirt?

finally after like 3 pages of trying to find the source i saw her name in the tag. i'm a bit freaked out by it, by her, by her age, everything. it's like all we need is some barbituates and some like traumatic event at jack nicholson's house.

oh. well apparently we are not gonna share in the excitement of this one.

maybe you did not recognize her because you are so used to finding her beautiful and this particular photo was a disorienting exception for you? surely. i think it was taken during a break in a fashion shoot and that's why her make-up looks strange with a t-shirt. plus there are only poor-quality pre-release copies of these photos floating around. i've seen a few --like her in the sunglasses on the previous page-- but now that i realize where they are coming from, i'm trying to avoid them so that when i find the magazine it will be that much better.

i'm a bit freaked out by it, by her, by her age, everything.
yeah, it's quite the sensitive issue, huh? but it's not black-and-white. you've said something along the lines of dakota having done fine as a child actress and model. while there are certainly issues other than misuse, i haven't seen any baby brooke-esque photo shoots of elle.

and on the subject of other issues, i saw this on tumblr recently:
Inez and Vinoodh and underage models
Via style.com:

I read that you don’t shoot models under the age of 18. Was that a conscious decision?

VM: Very conscious.

IVL: We saw this happen to so many models, especially with girls. They start at 14 and everyone says to them, “Wow, you’re incredible. You’re so skinny. You look like a boy.” And once that girl is 18 and her body is finished growing, all of a sudden it was like, “Oh, she’s fat.” The poor girl. She’s just growing. We felt it was unethical to support that. You get judged anyway and it’s not easy. You have to really know who you are first. And at such a tender age — between 14 and 18 — you’re figuring out who you are.
^good for them. i buy some of what they are saying--that it applies to many of the girls in the industry, that it is something to take into consideration. but as a consumer, i draw my line different. there are plenty of corporations and industries that will never see a dime from me for moral reasons. that said, no way am i about to cut myself off from all fashion and film starring children--full knowing it isn't all sugar & spice. anyway, elle's career seems to be well-intended and pleasant. she appears to have a significant say in it. and it is without question yielding beautiful (moving and still) images.

it's like all we need is some barbituates and some like traumatic event at jack nicholson's house.
^say what? i get the barbiturate part. but jack nicholson's house because of the recent fire? or is there some older piece of celebrity history that i am oblivious to?

well that lead to some depressing wiki-ing. i didn't know he was married to sharon tate when she was murdered either.

A Magazine: Curated by Rodarte was released today. being in utah for the week, i'll have to wait to find it. won't be clicking my elle fanning track tag on tumblr until.
