Both APS and benzos don’t tackle the meat of the psychosis they just numb your brain out so you don’t feel much at all, APS block a bunch of dopamine, adrenaline, & serotonin receptors in your brain so there’s reduced brain activity overall, benzos increase GABA the anti anxiety chemical in your brain which helps you sleep and also regulates neurotransmitters and dopamine reputake making sure your brain doesn’t have too much dopamine without causing damage to your receptors, it’s a double edged sword benzos will have less side effects then APS but they’re harder to get off of and the withdrawals are no joke. AP withdrawals are really bad too but not on the same level as benzos so basically while on the drug you’ll feel better on benzos but if you choose to get off the drug benzo withdrawal is going to be worse another thing that’s worth mentioning is that the effects of benzos don’t last long once you build tolerance you’ll just end up taking them to feel normal and avoid withdrawal but barely feel anything and the psychosis may even come back so now you got a chronic benzo addiction and psychosis… APS you can build a tolerance too yes but they can still keep you out of psychosis long term, imo if you have a short term psychosis episode benzos would be an alright plan if that’s what you want but I personally would just take AP pills, If you have schizophrenia and the psychosis is unbearable and never goes away on its own what I would do is take seroquel or abilify pills at the lowest dose possible to keep my mood stable.
