ew consoles

A mouse and keyboard are much finer/more precise and more diverse controllers IMO. Also I don't have to do some insane hardware mod to my computer to "test drive" games before I buy them. That's how I knew I wasn't going to pay for fallout 4, the steam free weekend just confirmed it.

I'll always be primarily a PC gamer but consoles are also nice just because they're extremely accessible. I can bring a cartridge/disc to my friend's place and know their system will play it automatically. No installation, no drivers, no hassle.

And my PS2 didn't require any fiddling with hardware, modded in a matter of minutes. To be fair though if you're trying to play ripped games it's not supposed to be easy. It could even be argued that the fact it's so easy on PC is what's leading us toward this micropayment/DLC/season pass-based approach

The only thing I miss about consoles is some of their exclusive games...

I would honestly probably pay quite a bit for a used gamecube paired with all of my favorite games ever. Several of them are impossible to find for anything remotely approaching affordable.

I'd still have my xbox 360 around if it hadn't broken, IIRC it had one of the RROD issues and basically I was screwed so I think I just threw it in a fire one day lol. Those first gen ones were total pieces of crap. But there were also, like I said, a few exclusive games that I would love to play again. I bet my brother still has his around somewhere.

I like playing video games. PC or console, doesn't matter as long as the controls are fluid for me.

I never understood that PC master race bullshit. I mean, I know you can tweak video games basically infinitely on PC compared to the mainstream consoles and that appeals to people. I get that, but I just have trouble with the elitist mentality some PC-only gamers put on display in these kinds of conversations (side-note: it's exactly the same kind of elitist mentality I've shown when it comes to smoking resin/bong tar, so it's kinda hypocritical of me in that sense.)

To be fair, Network, you didn't say or act like any of that shit. Just seeing "ew consoles" was like a trigger, though, lol.

In other news, I hit a cat on the way to work this morning, around 1am. Saw the carcass on the way home from work about 15min ago. I know it's a petty thing but it's had me kind of fucked up all morning. Took my first Xanax in roughly a year to try and push those sad, empathetic thoughts away. All I think about is how I'd feel if my awesome little Kitty got hit by a car, broke her back/skull and left dying in the road at 1am in 18 degree weather, and imagining feeling that pain myself. Just chillin', lookin' for food, and then *bam* hit by a ton of steel and left broken and bleeding.

I'm even kicking myself for being more concerned with being late to work than stopping and seeing if there was literally anything I could do to help, but nope, I just had to clock in on time because that seemed more important in the moment.

Empathy's a bitch and I don't like it.:(

^I feel for you Jib... Christ the amount of self-loathing I've experienced due to hitting animals on the road is miserable. I hit a raccoon once and felt pretty bad, but I felt worst when I hit a bird as a teenager... Best not to dwell on these things :\

If it makes you feel better, cats are much less intelligent than most people think they are, and they kill millions of endangered and otherwise protected birds a year.

Yeah but they don't really know any better. I don't think looking to justify an accident will be helpful.

If you do find yourself dwelling on it jib, maybe there is something you can do, e.g. for your local pet shelter, that could help set things right. Maybe lend a hand with the birds lol

lol, naw, I knew exactly how my mind'd handle this. The milligram of Xanax I took's been helpin', like.... completely. Granted, I'm still drinkin' and smokin' but I figured I can kill that memory just.... just like that fucking cat, GOD DAMNIT.

haha, I'll be good. Just catchin' up on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. right now, enjoying the benzo' feels. I'll know I'm fucked up if that shit pops up in my dreams somehow tonight.

Jibult; sorry bout the cat. I've got 2 and never let them outside. Yeah, dealing with animals at work really messed me up.

While I'm at it, I've had 6 dogs, 2 cats, mice, gerbils, hamsters, rats, Guinea pigs, rabbits, snakes, tropical fish.

I need to get a talking parrot.

Tom

I've had more cats than pretty much anyone I know. I have one now.

this guy never loved his cats

2 dogs and a cat for me currently. Last pup I lost was a Rhodesian Ridgeback/Akita mix, and he was amazing.... but my newest little guys a German Shepherd/Rottweiler and oh my fucking god he's like the ultimate source of happiness in my life right now.

See, you want a talking parrot. Me? I want a wolfpack. And a farm. But not the kind of farm that my folks told me Casey went to when I was 7, like, an actual place. Ever since I saw this cool NatGeo documentary about a lone black wolf in Yellowstone I've always wished they were common in Maryland.

I have only one cat but she is a lot to handle on her own, very energetic haha. I'm taking care of my parent's cat while they're away and they do not get along.. can't tell if it's my cat that keeps stalking theirs or their cat being a bitch and raising a hissy fit anytime she sees the other. Probably both. It's a pain in the ass though trying to chill and suddenly having to get up and run around the house to find where the hissing/growling is coming from. Man I could never manage a dog lol

That's the good thing about cats, you can leave them alone if you have a good litter box and fresh waterer/feeder for at least a few days, probably a week in an emergency. A dog would definitely be dead or have destroyed your house in that time.

^ We were just having a lot of talking bird talk over in TDS and I told the story of our bird we had when I was growing up. He was an African Grey and they are some of the most accomplished mimics. We tried to teach him all sorts of things that we of course thought were clever at the time ("I can talk but you can't fly"8) ) but he steadfastly refused to trot those out except buried in his rather manic run-through-the-whole-repertoire every morning once most of the humans had left the house. You could hear him best if you were sick and stayed home from school. But what he did pick up was just what none of us wanted pointed out publicly like my mom's smoking cough or me whining at my sister in the most pathetic voice. One thing that was impressive was his rendition of my Dad's carpool ride. Every morning he would do it--the tires on the gravel driveway, the brakes and then the two toots on the horn. My Dad learned to wait for the second time before going out.

sucks about the cat, Jib, these kind of incidents really make you realize the futility of life, victim or perpetrator we are all victims of circumstance together :\
