Cannabis and Bodybuilding

I workout 4-6 times per week (varies per week obviously) and I smoke or vaporize about once per day (usually at night about 1-2 hours before bed).

I have a very low bf% and a fair amount of muscle.

I find that marijuana does nothing bad for me.

^^ lol i think if i were stoned at the gym with a bunch of my freinds we would probably just be cracking jokes an the captain america lookin homo with blue and pink spandex. We would never be able to get anything serious done at all. I live in Hi bradda, theres just too much to laugh at here when ur stoned.

I moved to HI I love it here bro that sticky icky!! I also lift weights 5x a week!

Cannabis increases my maximum weight limit and reps. It increases my motivation and performance in the gym. I am also amazing at stretching and yoga when stoned, compared to sober.

Yogo stoned is where its at lool

obviously don't smoke right before you work out otherwise you might do something stoners would do like drop a barbell on your foot. and try not to toke up at least 2-3 hours after working out. The 2-3 hours after working out is the most important time for your body to replenish its fluids/nutrients and to regenerate muscle growth.

But other than that, theres not much harm in smoking weed and body building.

THC increases estrogen levels but only slightly the biggest problem is that it just plain makes you lazy. The only possible benefit is the increased appetite

I avoid stimulants, due to anorectic properties. I tend not to eat and lose a ton of weight on them. Caffiene is ok, with the right amount, my hunger actually increases massively. With too much, i just feel shitty

I'm on adderall for ADHD which suppresses my appetite a ton. Often I have issues getting enough meals in a day which makes marijuana a godsend at times. Personal preference I guess. I love it.

Wish my doc would prescribe me Periactin though, I've heard a lot of good things about it.

I cannot smoke and then work out, even if I smoke and then workout several hours later then I still find it hard, even if I am amped up on some pre workout drink. This is mainly because I cannot lift as heavy as I'd like to when high and it frustrates me.

Smoking a few hours after a workout is even better. The best is too orally consume cannabis. Like I did today!

Anyways I am going to be taking a break from Marijuana pretty soon here. Right now its helping me not drink/drink so much so the benefit is outweight the negative.

I'm taking an AI right now, I wonder if Cannabis is reducing its effectiveness.

I guess the real question is if its estrogenic or not, most of the studies I have seen say it does not effect your hormonal levels.

You enjoy eating it? I never did that much. I always thought that the high was unpredictable and hard to time when eatinig it. How long does it take for you to feel it when you eat weed? lol I would try this at times to avoid detection but sometimes I think I will be too stoned after eating it at a wrong time (since I have a lot of things to be responsible for each day and I dont smoke anymore)

Personally..I use too smoke before working out al lthe time and I did feel more concentrated....but I feel that smoking ANYTHING is adding the element of c02 too the body that is not needed. Oxygen is what's needed fo muscle growth so that extra c02 is a no no.

Yeah I do, I always prefered it to smoking, but I still would smoke a ton.

Honestly in the last 14 I've taken maybe 3 hits. I'm not that into weed (or drugs for that matter) as I used to be. I do have to say the cannabis was having a slight impact on my lifts now that I have gone without. Not that big of an impact though.

For me it takes like a half hour to an hour to feel it. Dose is less controllable with edibles though.

I don't have any scientific info, but I wanted to chime in with my experience. I'm a recovering opioid and cocaine addict, but I still smoke weed, which I started doing daily again about 6 months ago. I've always wanted to start working out and get in shape, but I never had the motivation.

However, I realized that after getting off dope, marijuana has a different effect on me than it used to. Whereas I used to get lazy and unmotivated, I now get lots of motivation from it, and it also works great to help with the pain from my degenerative disc disease. So three months ago, I started working out. I ride the exercise bike, do situps (actually crunches, but whatever) and work out my arms with this big rubber band thing. I'm now up to 800 crunches a day (plus have increased my workout with the other stuff too) and I owe a lot of it to the pain relief and motivation I get from smoking high end bud.

Just my $0.02, not everyone gets lazy and unmotivated from smoking, I'm in better shape now than I've ever been in my life.

Sort of an old thread, but for the record I smoke before every workout. I am able to stay at the gym longer, concentrate better, and it does not diminish either my weightlifting capacity (compared to working out for a few months without any weed). I found that when I was smoking cigarettes it made running almost impossible, but even after smoking a lot of pot, 6 miles is no problem - in fact the time just flies by with some good music. I think for the occasional smoker it would be detrimental since the high is different IMO.

Obviously, the more protein you eat, the more results you get

Not really.

Vaporising may well become a key factor as to the legality of pot- health issues will influence public opinion.

MJ and BBing, I have come to understand, is a personal preference, period. A little while ago I just finally realized why blazing right before my workouts somewhat slows down my drive and motivation; the answer to that is cannabis' effects on cAMP.

cAMP (cyclic adenosine monophosphate) is one of the major energy components in our body along with ATP (adenosine triphosphate). Simply put, I believe it's specifically THC that decreases bioactive cAMP. Now to what degree? I don't exactly know, but it decreases cAMP nonetheless. I'm sure most of you in here know the roles of cAMP, ATP, and protein synthesis when it comes to building muscle, staying lean, and overall metabolism.

Now what's funny is that there is a difference in my workouts when comparing the AMOUNT I've smoked prior to hitting the weights. I have come to enjoy taking a just a hit or two before my workouts. When I don't get domed out of my skull, I feel like some amount of weight has been lifted and I feel somewhat energized. On the contrary if I were to put down a fat blunt or jay, I'd be done for. This is not to say that this is my traditional practice. I actually prefer to not blaze before workouts because of the pharmacology of MJ in that situation.

Too much of a decrease in cAMP, to me, has a significant effect on my reflexes and reaction level and I've come to accept that I just can't pound as hard as I would like to when I blaze up too much. And that is fine because any other time of the day except around my workouts, I am totally down. I've actually come to really enjoy taking little tokes at a time rather than getting down on a fat session, unless in a social atmosphere.

Overall I feel about cannabis just as I do with any other compound that has the ability to alter your perception (whether it be enlightenment, lowering anxiety, euphoria, etc)...

USE IN MODERATION. I think we all can agree that too much of a good thing can be bad. I feel these days people need to just think about how they feel and how their bodies respond to something in particular if it is effecting them in a way that they would rather not feel. Also, like others already stated in this thread, cannabis has absolutely no detrimental effects on their body or gains while it might make others feel totally out of it.

I do think that cannabis and bodybuilding can work together, if you let it. It is an absolute God send for people who cannot get in enough calories a day but it can be a disaster if you let it "takeover" your food options. See where I'm getting at? This is what people sometimes have a hard time dealing with. You must manipulate and control the urges that cannabis might make you want to do or not to do. This is accomplished by one thing and one thing only, will power.

Oh and one more thing, I'm highly interested in some studies concerning the effects of cannabis on hormone levels and metabolism. I've heard it may be estrogenic and that it stimulates metabolism; which may entail its increase in hunger. But at the same time I've read somewhere that it's not metabolism rather it's effect on the hypothalamus that triggers the impulse for hunger. So if anyone has any published, credible studies on these matters I'd appreciate a link for them.

In my group of friends the only ones that work out smoke weed every day.

To me weed motivates me to work out, I usually work out right after smoking. Its weird because I can totally remember a time where I would get all lazy when i smoked. Dunno what changed but for me weed is awesome. I dont use steroids btw.

I know lots of BBs that use grass every day. Some use it pre work out, others use it post. I think the kind of marijuana also plays a key role, IMHO. Lets use hash as an example....the lighter brown type or green kinds, offer a more energetic high. Where as darker, stickier, or black Nepalese hash will hit you like a ton of bricks. I have one guy at my gym who smokes Sour Diesel before his work out, and after his work out, he smokes some kind of haze....Kush crossed with some haze strain I believe.
