Can we have a thread here to discuss the current lounge rules?

^^ lol i dunno ... (for CG)

i didn't see the thread but if l2r wasn't so quick to demonize you for posting it and be LIEK OMG TROLL he might've noticed your postcount :)

bygones ;)

you smell!

come back

^ I am both jealous and amused at the fact you can ruffle the hair gel out of my blowout one minute and then have me laughing the next.

The only reason I got it was the qualifier at the end. The one about returning once his power level reached 9000. Unlikely though unless he had his own gravity acceleration training facility.

I will be honest. Despite being yelled at for that thread I did plan on making one when my post count reaches 9000. And I want to apologize for that pre-crime. We'll cross that bridge when we get there I suppose.

and now for the fourth bi monthly official bluelight winkathon! wink for charity, or go to hell! ;)

Should I just shoot myself now for understanding the mind of CG? ;)

Yeah but unlike a country where people live, if you make this place suck, people can just leave.

Doesn't anybody notice this? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!

What the fuck? Seriously. What democratic country are you living in that you can't you leave? Canada? New Zealand? Yeah, imposssible to leave. If you're having problems getting out of a democratic country you should probably question the "democratic" value of said government. 8)

I don't like this thread anymore because I don't like feeling feelings lol.

Shit is getting all PLUR like.

How bout that shit box with a velvet rope we know as The Lounge eh?:D

Great, we're all friends again (except for Finder who smells and TLB who talks too much like that annoying guy that won't shut up and follows you around the place to keep talking even though you've blown him off a few times already but he doesn't get the hint and ....)

But we still have the remaining issues of what defines LOUNGE material, and how can the mods enforce that fairly? It's been established that the forum is dependent upon what the members post in there - and I (perhaps foolishly) think that if everyone in here (since it represents several of the key players in terms of posters and mods) posts with a few simple mental checks beforehand, it'll help immensely.

Think before posting - ask yourself, is this really how I want the site that I love to be seen on the internet world? And would I want my name tied to a thread that displayed this post? If you think of how your post will reflect our membership and goals, it would keep sex squid pics and mindless meme floods and random nonsensical posts out of the forum (just as they do in any other forum on this site). This would still allow the insider jokes amongst a few friends (not everything has to appeal to the world or be understood by them) - such as rc's reference to friends after a gathering, or even CG's power thread (which I actually 'got' without being a DBZ person). These show friendship, camaraderie, and togetherness - not to the exclusion of others, but in celebration of the friends we've made here. It would have prevented some of the stupider threads that have lived unchecked for so long.

The other hand in this is the moderation - which has historically proven to be clique-ish and operating with a single mind on what (or more often who) is allowed to be posted. This is being addressed, though some members may not see it yet. The recent mod addition was of someone who would not be influenced by any particular clique and has shown independent thinking. And before he was added, the mods have actually had very conflicted discussion on what threads or posts ought to be edited or left alone. Point being, they don't all see things the same, and they do try to verify against the other mod perspectives before taking action. Also, the Sr. Staff is taking a more active interest in helping them reach balanced decisions in this regard, but still desiring an improvement in forum content.

Perhaps in conjunction with members thinking of the impact on the site of their particular post, we will have moderators actively working to cull the less desirable stuff out. The gross pics thread is a prime example that comes to mind - it was removed, and not missed. While the mods may have tried to stop the incoming content from getting worse (and thereby creating a scenario of fighting 'problem users'), they could have started by removing the older threads as a sign of things to change. Send the subtle signal first before confronting the more recent creations.

I appreciate the fact that it appears people are moving past the personal conflicts, but before this is plurred off into the history books only to be revived again later, I'd like to seek a conclusion to what brought this about.

Yeah, I mean like, its real easy to just leave on forum, and sign up or start another one. Super easy and quick. Just leaving where you live and completely moving, takes time, planning... its an arduous process. Digital communities are easier to move between and forum. Sorry, by saying "just leave" I was implying all that, that I assumed (under the influence) that you knew.

[Edit: This is now redundant because as I started writing it TLB was posting his post above which says the same stuff only more eloquently AND it insults Finder, so I lose twice :(. But honest, I wrote it before reading his post]

Nice to see the ~PLUR~ returning to this thread :)

Just a generalised response to comments from e.g. Darthmom and randycaver: it seems to me that it's not so much the type of post/thread, as the frequency. One thread about Limecat: not really a problem. People will post or they won't, and it'll fall off the page. People posting pics of Limecat in every fucking thread, that'd be a problem.

Same goes for personal threads or in-jokes, whether from the BLers who hang out together (:( :( - jealous) or post milestones, or birthdays or appreciations, jokes that spill over from chat, threads that should be in SLR but are posted in the Lounge for the lulz (rc, looking in your direction here ;)), etc.

To my mind the image memes were taking over the forum and affecting it negatively. Doesn't mean there's no room for the odd well-placed Indeed Owl; just means it should be rare-ish. IMHO.

FWIW, I'd like to see more journal-type posts allowed in the Lounge, where they can generate good discussion - stuff like people getting engaged or graduating or whatever. But I accept I'm probably in a minority there....
