Television Breaking Bad

Consider real-life organized crime and the international death toll it incurs and you will be decidedly underwhelmed by what you see on even the most violent episodes of Breaking Bad. Also, I think that, for Gus, no number of Evil Henchmen killings could ever dissuade him from the multimillion dollar figures he made by selling dat blue en masse. And 'soft,' isn't quite the word that I would use to describe the statement "I will kill your wife, your son, and your infant daughter," or something to that effect.

Exactly. I'm not saying the deaths are unrealistic, I'm saying that Walt is still alive is unrealistic. But I guess that's why he is where he is at the moment.

Did you read the part in which I mention Gus's vested interest (not to mention the interests of anyone who was ever in financial cahoots with him) in keeping Walter White alive and well, even at astronomical cost? Multimillion dollar business used to slake a decade-spanning thirst for vengeance, anyone?

Omg, so some srs shit is about to go down this season, the 2nd episode was fucking awesome all the way through
And oh shit, Hank fucking knows, dat facial expression, I think he's almost sure and if there wasn't some suspicion at all by now Hank is a retard and we know he's not. I wonder how he's going to go about all this, it could potentially ruin there family very very badly...

Also, Mike taking half measures with this Lydia doesn't seem like it's going to end well down the road.
All along Walt and them think they covered there tracks with the lap top when it was encrypted anyway and thus by doing that led the police and dea to the off shore accounts for everyone not to snitch.

Yeah, such a brilliant scene with Hank. Although, not much the dude can do when he does find out. Walt is paying his medical bills with his dirty drug money, so when the inevitable confrontation goes down, Walt has Hank by the balls.

And I love how Walt is torturing Skyler lately. If ever a bitch deserved it...

I love where they are going with this season. Opening up the greater universe of characters and storylines is a refreshing change from the claustrophobic feel of the past couple seasons. Season four in particular seemed to be trapped in a very tiny creative space, one that came to an epic ending with the season four finale. I really appreciate how that is allowing the writers to explore new narratives and really expand the plot and character dynamics of the show. This is something that they could have done very poorly. Instead it's looking like it might actually end up being the best season of them all, and at the very least a worthy conclusion to the series.

Yeah, I'm absolutely loving it so far.

4 will probably go down as my least favorite season. It had its amazing moments, like Hermanos, Salud, and Crawl Space, but it felt fundamentally flawed in some way I simply cannot put my finger on well enough to explain. I suppose some of it comes down to the "forced suspense" of some of the early episodes like Bullet Points, Shotgun, and Cornered. A lot of this is subjective, I know, but Breaking Bad has always been a show that makes me lose my objectivity and forget that they don't kill off main characters, and season 4 never did that for me.

Also, the showdown with Gus was something that we had to know was inevitable. We knew one of the two would die, and that it wouldn't be Walt, and Gus needed to go in order to truly advance the plot forward in the extraordinary ways the plot is moving forward in this season. Esposito deserved the season long devotion to him by playing such a character to perfection, but as opposed to previous seasons season 4 was almost entirely character driven instead of plot driven up until the finale, where the inevitable finally occurs in the most epic fashion possible. The ending to Crawl Space is one of the top 2 or 3 moments in the entire series, at least, and it sets the template for the Walt we have now (Walt wasn't dropping bombs on hospitals and nursing homes before his little break down, for those who missed it and feel that Walt has undergone some kind of unprecedented change in character the Walt we are seeing now is the direct product of that very moment). The drama was still on point, and that is what truly makes this show what it is, but the suspense that puts it over the top was largely absent for me.

Season 5 takes us back to the feeling the show thrived on, where we never really knew what would or wouldn't become a problem in the next episode.

Just watched the entire series in 6 days and managed to work, 5th here I come!
I actually didn't like Walter, Jesse or Gus. Yay for Mike?

Lol I really like mike too. Especially as the show progressed I really started to like Walter less. I thought at first that he was just some guy taking care of business because he was about to die, but he's really just turned into an asshole. Mike on the other hand is just a cool dude

It starts in 45 mins. That last episode focusing on Mike was totally dope! But I love Walter and Jesse and if they had to kill him I'd be for it. Having said that Mike is a badass. I love the whole cast, I don't always agree with Walt, but he just plays the part so well that you run with it. Great show! Probably gonna go down as one of the great dramas of all time! Let's hope they keep it flowing well tonight at 9:00 pm Central time. BOOYAH!

Awesome episode last night as usual, love the new method of cooking. I was curious what walt was trying to say at the end of the episode about "victor flew too close to the sun and got his throat cut", What point was he trying to make there?

It was a reference to the story of Icarus, who was killed by his own hubris after flying too close to the sun on wings made of wax. Walt is drawing parallels between Victor over-stepping his bounds with Gus, and their current situation - It's almost like he knows his little venture is going to end badly.

Really? I thought he was making a thinly veiled threat toward Jesse. It seemed like a cryptic analogy about having your partner overstepping his role in the business. Remember that Walt probably still has some bad inklings about the situation after Jesse almost left to become Gus' primary cook in Season Four. Also the camera focusing on a concerned Jesse as it panned out only furthers this hypothesis. It could be that things are being set in motion for the conclusive falling out between Walt and Jesse.

There seems to be a lot of foreshadowing in these episodes, in terms of character developmet. There have been lots of subtle and not so subtle interactions aimed at morphing the perception of Walt into that of a pure sociopath. Even the remarks he makes in apparent companionship seem to have ulterior motives

^ Good points!

Perhaps he wasn't necessarily threatening Jesse. Obviously Walt's remarks in that final scene caused Jesse some distress - maybe it finally hit home for Jesse just how much Walt has changed. In regards to Victor's death, what Walt first saw as a cold-blooded message from a murderous sociopath, he now sees as a business strategy.
