ryan, i got into the flaming lips with "yoshimi battles the pink robots" and i just recently picked up "at war with the mystics". I feel that you have to be in a very specific mood to listen to most of the flaming lips albums, which are all very good, but at war with the mystics is very groovable and i love it a lot.

cool cool, i will take that into consideration! i still havent heard the entire 'at war with the mystics' album only that one song, ill have to check it out!

man i dont know what to do!

Gwar all the way dude. I am not even sure why you have to think about it. especially with 2 carloads of friends. I saw Gwar once. They ruined my favorite shirt with blood and semen.

^^^I hope Deerhoof didn't open for them! ;) How were they? Are they playing any new songs?

Haha, no this crappy shoegaze band did. 8 people in the band, Five guitars, bass, drums, moog and nothing interesting going on. I mean, I know the genre only has one tempo, but at least try to shake things up a bit.

Wilco, however, rocked. Unfortunately, Jeff Tweedy's mom passed away this past week so it was a very emotional performance. During At Least That's What You Said, he almost started to cry although the song was the most raging version I've ever heard. They played three new songs, which I liked. They seem like they're still working the kinks out of them live, but they seem to be heading in a more complex rock direction. A lot of their older tunes seem reworked a bit to incorporate Nels more. The only band is playing really great overall and I'd recommend seeing them on their upcoming tour if at all possible.

If you have seen Gwar once, that is enough. Go with Testament.

^^^will i possibly be seeing you tuesday at caliban?

Didn't even know about that show. I looked on their myspace and saw it was at Ritual, but it doesn't day who else is playing. I most likely won't be going though, as I have turned into an old man that doesn't go to shows on weekdays much anymore. :(

however:

Tool

tonight at Nassau Colliseum. YAY.

^^^it's one of charlie's shows. you can look on the die trying page for the complete lineups. but yeah, i haven't gone to a show in a while... i need to get out.

Caliban
The Acacia Strain
Across Five Aprils
Light This City
Adorah Aveya (Last show ever!!!)
Days on End
Sown in Tears

ehhh, no one that really makes me want to head over there...Caliban, The Acacia Strain and Light this City are alright, but I wouldn't head out there on a Tuesday for them. Anyway, enjoy! :)

Wilco played with "early day miners" who did not impress me. the four-five guitars was ridiculous, and the songs were repetitive and boring. I really liked one of their songs, the rest didnt impress me.

Wilco played a great show, their songs were very full of energy and the crowd was really into it. They know what they're doing and they do it well. The only thing that seemed lacking was the softness of some of their songs that make their albums so good obviously had to be compromised.

going to see fucking modest mouse two nights in november!

november 5th at the avalon in hollywood
november 6th at the wiltern

oh yeah

Bob Weir and Ratdog - 10/20
Younder Mountain String Band - 10/21

[Chicago]
Kinda excited, should be a great weekend. Was thinking about seing Rhythm Devils on the 24th, but I dont know. Kinda wish Ratdog was Phil and friends but such is life, Bobby gets my money this round. Wanted to stay at the House of Blues the whole weekend but dumb ass me waited to long and didnt realize the Chicago half Marathon is that weekend so all the hotels are booked unless I want to fork out 350$ a night, for Bobby its not worth it would rather stay at a friends or ride all night on my bike because I am sure its going to be a sleepless weekend. Anyone else going? I have extra tickets will trade for a piece of floor ;). Cant Wait...!

Is that a namedrop/showdrop/venuedrop/PANTSDROP!?

I stayed in Lafayette this past weekend en route to the Cincy shows I went to actually where I also saw Wilco. Didn't realize Wilco had been there through there. Didn't see the whole show unfortunatley (mmw takes precedence) but I really liked what I saw a lot.
