Saw Opeth

@ the Nokia Center in NYC on Thursday (Sept.18th). One of my most loved bands in one of my favorite venues. Can't ask for much more. %)

I love the fact that you can sit in the seats at Nokia (decently far away from the stage) and the sound is still excellent. Opeth really never disappoints; if you are even slightly a fan of heavy music, DO NOT pass up the opportunity to see this band live if it presents itself. The only other thing I could have asked for was for maybe another half hour added to their set (set went from approx. 9:30-11:00; I think the venue has a curfew). Other than that, the band sounded terrific as usual, the setlist was nice and diverse, crowd was cool (people I talked to at least; but too much obnoxious shouting out in between songs from people on the floor...that shit irritates me) and Mikael was his usual witty frontman self.:)

Really? I saw these guys open for Wilco last fall and...well, ugh. :\

I've seen them twice. The first time, about 2 years ago, was utterly fantastic. They brought it to a different level. But, then I saw them a few months ago and was sort of disappointed. I chalked that one up to having a bad day, as they were so good he time before, but maybe the good show was the anomaly. I don't know.

That first one was also in some tiny ass club here that is one of my favorite venues, so that may have helped.

I still think it's worth looking into, can't hurt to give em a listen.

I'm seeing Uli Jon Roth, the original guitarist for Scorpions (yeah, not The Scorpions...I know, I thought they had a "the" too for the longest time, those stupid Germanglish Scorpions) way back in the 1970's, before they became cheeseball '80s metal. This is back when they had a neo-classical shred guitarist, Uli, and songs that sound more like Rainbow crossed with Black Sabbath and weird scary German prog rock. Basically, closer to something Dieter from Sprockets would appreciate.

But yeah, he's touring the US right now with Mark Boals, the singer on Yngwie Malmsteen's Trilogy album, so it should be a pretty bad ass metal show. I'm sure no one cares here, but I'm damn excited.

MGMT and Beck tonight! Unfortunately at my most despised venue in the city. Still should be fun, though. I don't think I have seen Beck live since 96 or 97.

I have never left a show so angry before. Beck was pretty good right up until his whole band came to the front of the stage to "play" what looked like a couple sequencers, the drummer had an electronic drum pad, and Beck had...an iPhone. Are you fucking kidding me? The worst part about it is that I don't think any of them were actually making music, with the song being played out of Beck's iPhone during which he'd sometimes "scratch" on it a bit. I'm pretty sure the song was prerecorded because the drummers hits did not coincide with the bass beat he was supposedly playing AT ALL. It looked like a Milli Vanilli lipsync-a-thon with without the singing.

I seriously wanted to puke. I barely contained my rage for a few songs before leaving the show early. Fuck Beck.

MGMT was ok.

That's seriously some weak ass shit. :\

i REALLY wish Beck would realese a good ole ragged blues album again, something along the lines of Stereopathic Soul Manure and One Foot In The Grave..
you know, the style he first recorded with.. not soul-less pop music, he needs to pick up a banjo and create crackly 8 track songs again

oh how i wish.. :\

That sounds like an SNL sketch, not a concert. It is a bit funny. Not to have paid for it I'm sure. Sorry. :\

Atmosphere next week in Richmond. I have no doubts it'll rock.

TBH it doesn't surprise me that Beck's show wasn't so great. After all, he did say in Spin a while ago that he wishes he could cut out the whole tour aspect of making music. :\

Yeah, maybe he can stand there and play a fucking tape next time.

i saw dans le sac vs scroobies pip the other night. i was somewhat disappointed by the show, they did not bring the energy i was expecting... but it was still an ok time and i was glad i went out.

i was supposed to see MSTRKRFT and felix cartel today
it was 18+ but because of the stupid cubs they moved it to a 21+ show
might still try to get in but i don't think anyone will go with me since it's kind of expensive

uhh can i brag about this anyways?

i saw MSTRKRFT last year when i was in buenos aires and they were soo amazing. i killed it on the dance floor.

I just saw them for the third time in Buffalo. Easily one of my favorite bands.

Setlist:
Heir Apparent
The Grand Conjuration
Hope Leaves
Serenity Painted Death
The Lotus Eater
Night and the Silent Water
Deliverance
Demon of the Fall
The Drapery Falls

Order might be slightly off, and I'm missing one song... can't remember what it was for the life of me. I think it may have been Bleak, but I'm not 100% sure.

Serenity Painted Death and Demon of the Fall just happen to be my favorite Opeth songs, and Heir Apparent is the song I listen to most frequently at the moment... so I was very satisfied with the show.
