Saw Andrew Bird free in Millennium Park, Chicago, earlier this week. It was fantastic. I hadn't seen the guy live in so long but as soon as he started wailing on his violin it was as if I never left that first concert I saw with AmorRoark about 3 years ago.

He played some opening songs alone and then his band came out. I have to say I enjoy Bird alone or with the accompaniment of Dosh on drums, but thats it. The band was still great, the show was still marvelous, but I really do not need any other sounds other than those which Bird produces, music from additional guitarists or bassists just distracts. There were many more songs throughout the night that were more solo-Bird though, so it evened out for me.

Really a fantastic show though, Bird is still humble, charming and very funny on stage and truly a musical virtuoso of great, great talent. Love him! <3

Glad you enjoyed it...I was sort of "meh" on the whole thing. I am having a really hard time enjoying Martin Dosh on drums (Kevin O'Donnell for the fucking win) and the bass and guitar players barely seemed to be add anything beyond background noise. I think Andrew may be losing me and it makes me sad. :(

Watermelon Park Festival Sept 18th-20th.. bluegrass music galore

i checked that thread.....i tried to find some new music there but it took a lot of time and effort....i'd rather browse emusic and pay the $15/month for the ease of the search..... there may not be bootlegs there, but i can find new and upcoming music without spending loads of time....

do you have children? finding and downloading music is difficult with a 9 month old baby.....

the whole point i was making was that i just wish it were easier....much like the old days when my friends would show up with a tape in hand saying "hey! i got meat beat manifesto this weekend"

bleh.

one of my friends is taking me to the treasure island festival this weekend :)

i'm planning to at least catch these artists: aesop rock, amon tobin, tv on the radio, nortec collective (saturday), and the raconteurs, tegan and sara, spiritualized, and vampire weekend (sunday).

i may also check out justice, aka the most overrated act in electronic music, just to see if i can figure out why everyone worships them :p

(ps: i only know of big star because of "thirteen" which was covered by garbage and then again by elliott smith. let us know how the show went?)
