Boycott Singapore - Van's unfair sentance

Baby Jesus says, "KemicalBurn? Yeah, he's a cunt!" =D

I agree its a form of natural selection.
But imm that still doesn't make it right.
Our intellect/emotions can value traits that the laws of natural selection do not.

Vans case has nothing to do with evolution or natural selection it is just ludicrous to even say it is evolution in the process....evolution happens for a single species not a single person....how is his death going to change how human beings develop physically in the future ? he wont get to procreate but that is not natural selection...it is tragedy not natural selection...only an idiot will even compare a case so tragic to natural selection..

Oh come on!

of course Van has zero to do with evolution.... the thread just went off on a tangent is all.
(although the fact that there will be no Van Jnr's running around i guess comes into play ;))

I think it all started when EE stated "people shouldn't die for being stupid"
--> cue reference to Darwin Awards
--> cue discussion on Darwin & natural selection

:)

YAY!!
^Your contribution to this thread is nothing short of inspiring. :\.

On topic, I think Van is getting what was coming to him.
It's simple really [made simpler because I'm exempt from any emotional reactions to his sentence having not known the guy]... he broke the law. Thus he is due to be punished accordingly.

It's imperative that people makes themselves aware of the customs, values, beliefs and laws in any country they try to visit. Law enforcers rarely take ignorance to the law as an excuse for breaking it. :|.

It's not, but it should make future drug smugglers think twice (if not 36 times) before doing something as stupid as this.

I agree, he shouldn't die because of what he did. But that is my opinion, not the Singaporean government's which is what counts here.

He knew the risks that he was taking, he knew their law that would take his life caught, but he went and did it anyway. Stupid. Doesn't deserve to die, but will. You can't blame anyone else but him.

I know the laws of gravity, if i am stupid enough to disregard them and jump off a cliff. No one can blame anyone else but me when my head tries to go through the ground.

its called "the big picture" - butterfly flapping its wings in tokyo and all that.

He dies, Darwin wins. Science has spoken!

FYI everyone dies and Darwin has nothing to do with it...the big picture you are talking abt is millions and millions off years in the making...and nobody really knows how it happens and what events triggers change.

Im sure this one event is like a speck off sand in the entire universe, so there is no big picture as far as this event and Darwin is concerned

You'd be surprised at how often a little, minor thing can make the most massive of differences.

and there is always a big picture. stop being naive 8)

kinda hard not to when its irrefutable scienctific evidence. Im not going to attempt to explain Chaos theory to you when you are troubled with the relatively simple concept of evolution.

he cant reproduce = no more genetic copies.

now, i know this is difficult, but stay with me on this (i think you'll find this fascinating) ...

Van not being an able contributor to the genetic momentum of the human race is a direct result to evolution.

Now, why cant he be an able contributor? because he is sentenced to death.

why is he sentenced to death? because he knowingly smuggled drugs in a country that has the death penalty for such offenses.

why did he try to do this, thinking he could pull it off? because he's an idiot. granted, the odds were in his favour, but anyone dumb enough to gamble their life should not be surprised when they lose it.

how is a butterfly flapping his wings gonna influence me?
^Dude, learn to read.

I doubt KemicalBurn is in the mood to rehash years and years of theorum and make it palletable to you. :|.

cotb and KB if i was interested in Chaos theory or evolution i would ask

someone that is actually qualified or is actually intelligent enough to

discuss it in great detail, I certainly wouldnt want KemicalBurn who knows

fuck all abt chaos theory apart from the buzz phrase off 'the butterfly

effect' and telling me it overall affects on the big picture...

Chaos theory is really just one big PREDICTION OFF WHAT MAY OR MAY NOT

HAPPEN....it is too difficult to gather all the known variables patterns

and outcomes...COS IT IS EXACTLY THAT - CHAOS...TRYING TO FIND A PATTERN IN

A SYSTEM THAT HAS NO PATTERNS....the best you can get is a guess.

So how does Chaos theory affect the 'big picture' in Vans Case? I know for

certain that I wouldnt base 'the big picture' on a guess...cos I like to be

certain and not base such things on theorums like Chaos...cos in theory

they are great...yeh applied to the stock market, weather patterns ..to

suggest that chaos can be applied to any event is just not accurate...cos

half off it would be wrong...so in your big picture KB and COTB half your

data is inaccurate...much like shit you both spout out.

As for evolution...KB you said

'Van not being an able contributor to the genetic momentum of the human

race is a direct result to evolution.'

Taken in the context off Darwin Theory, Procreating and evolution are

totally different things....evolution is not procreating, does it say anywhere?..when it talks abt not being able to have kids do they word it

...unable to evolve ? The answer is no. If the two are NOT the same why are you quoting his inabilty to have kids and evolution in the same sentence?

The answer because you dont know shit abt chaos or evolution! In lamons terms so you and COTB can comphrehend.. evolution takes millions off years...one person unable to procreate is not going to affect evolution. so to reiterate both chaos and evolution has no place in this thread..so you both can now take off your wannabe scientist hats now until you actually know what you are talking abt !

^ i'm not denying your right to an opinion or to express yourself, but back the fuck up and learn something about the people that you're insulting before you do so, so that you don't coming off looking as dumb as your insults. :\

KB is extraordinarily intelligent, as well as being tertiary educated in science, and a physics major at that - he knows a whole fuckload about chaos theory and the butterfly effect, so I would actually listen to what he's tried to explain to you. If you choose to still disagree, so be it, but don't presume to know the extent of his or others' knowledge.

^^ I dont give a toss if he invented chaos theory, what he says is inaccurate as my post says...im just merely stating my opinion based on what he has said in the post....if you disagree with the argument why dont you say something to refute what i have said then too take a one sided view...if you havent noticed KB has been dishing up insults as much as he is receiving...

I can assure you i know a great deal about chaos theory. including the maths involved.

Using him not having kids in the same sentence as evolution - if you do yourself a favour chief, you'll note that what i said about that was him not being able to pass his genes to the next generation. which is a part of evolution (its one of the founding principles - look it up :))

Procreating is apart of evolution. if i need to explain this, then you have deep seeded issues that we simply cannot address here and now.

"A SYSTEM THAT HAS NO PATTERNS....the best you can get is a guess." You're missing the actual concept of it, listen closely, i'll translate it into "jackass" so you can follow:

Long ago, there was a meteorologist and he decided to build a "weather model", now, he crunched some figures and came up with a result. as to be expected. however, when he tried to replicate this, he was greated with completely different results.

racking his brain, he couldnt figure out why. Until he went over his figures and realised an indescrepency. in the first model, he used figures down to 6 decimal places, and in the second - 4 decimal places. this is where the phrase "a butterly flapping its wings in tokyo can cause a storm in another part of the world"".

are you following me there champ?

Now, "chaos theory" has been applied to a great many things (its quite universal). and i hope you can see where this is leading...

thats right sparky! it can be applied into genetics and evolution! wow! now, i can tell you're just sitting there, staring blankly at your screen thinking "huh?"

allow me to illustrate it further: a minor change in todays generation, could have untold effects on future generations...annnnnd...

wait for it!!

adversely affecting how the human race evolves in the mean time!

now, there is some hardcore maths behind this that i wont bore you with - but rest assured, the diagrams, models, and equations reflect this.

and yes - you are indeed correct on some parts that some aspects of evolution can take many many years (not necessarilymillions. so take your hand off it). Its a known fact that the appendix is slowly getting smaller and soon wont be there (from the data we have today). many more examples are out there. give google a go and see what you cant find out for yourself!!

the word "theory" has a completely different meaning in science than it does colloquially.

Im afraid the "scientist" cap doesnt come off - science is what i study, it is what i live, it is me.

did i miss anything? post more =D
