Bluelighters and Fishing?

^^Start with tying basic streamers, altering the basic bugger and clouser patterns can be done to match just about any forage fish;) Crayfish are a bit more of a bitch to tie:!

You gotta know how to do it to make money doing it;)
 
^^If you can tie patterns missed by others (local baitfish immitations are a good start) and for niche' uses ( tiny crayfish 1") go like crazy in the spring. As does my baby carp pattern. You would be amazed what you will catch on a carp (1") pattern, everything eats them;)

A well tied, durable bass or walleye fly can sell for upwards of 8$, especialy if people see you catching fish with them;)
 
I love to fish!!! Saltwater or fresh! Doesn't matter to me.
Nothing like getting your line wet.
I have fished all over and in several bodies of water.

I'm way too lazy for that these days. haha Anyway, the entire shoreline of the lake I fish at is private property. You gotta have a boat. Its on for tomorro! I can't wait. especially since I didn't get to go last week.

We don't have walleye down here in south texas. I read a while back where they had a walleye stocking program going on Medina Lake back in the 70's but
I guess they couldn't get them established and they abandoned the program.

It must be way too cold for fishing in Colorado right now. I was looking at the weather for that area.......brrrrrrrr.

We were neighbors. I moved back in '99. But used to live in SA too. Up by 1604 and Retama park horse track(not sure if thats the correct spelling).

I have fished Brauning, calaveras, choke canyon, Canyon, Guadelupe, medina, corpis christi, Conroe, Galviston and few others in TX. I love that state for fishing.

That shark took 45 minutes to land, my back was killing me. A buddy of mine in SA called me one Sunday mornig asking if I had seen the sports section of the paper. I said no, and then opened it up and there I was! That was taken by dock staff and they turned it in to the paper. Nice suprise!

The Tuna and Mahi pics are from the Oregon Inlet in NC. That Tuna was 61 pounds. 9 pounds short of citation. The Bass is a Potomac river bass. Thats where I grew up and live today VA. That fish was caught not far from the Woodrow Wilson bridge. We have some real nice bass here. But I really miss those RED's, to me those are the best fighting fish I have ever had the pleasure of catching (biggest red 42" 28 pounds) Big bull! Go that off a jetty in Port A too.

Lake brauning and calaveras have nice reds and stripers! Calaverass I used to go to that concrete wall and cast at all those reds bubbling from the power plant. Ah the good ole days!
 
Got a 23" brown trout on a blue #10 tungsten bead head bugger with white hackle working an undercut this afternoon. Bitch of a fight on a 4wt with 3lb tippet:).

You can still fly-fish pretty much year-round other than the odd windstorm or arctic cold front.

I gotta put up some pictures, I gotta figure out how to edit out my face first though...

I caught a 17+ inch brown trout this summer, but I released him. Mind you I live in WI, though. Our fish are bound to be lots smaller than anything you catch where you can get through the ice at this time of year!!

the WI DNR is fucking horrible when it comes to managing trout streams. They do everything they can to make our streams look like the ones you've got out west- wide, treeless. That doesn't work here.

I fish with my uncle a lot- and he's got all these stories about catching 15" fish regularly, his biggest being 24"- and today, where he caught those, we catch suckers.

A sucker should be too afraid to show it's face in places like those.
 
You can do WAY better than that for browns in WI. I grew up in Oshkosh and West Bend and did a ton of fishing on the upper fox, emberass, wolf, and st. croix rivers for trout, as well as the milwaukee river where it enters lake michigan in grafton, and a ton of trout fishing in the harbor (get as close as you can to the discharge from the power plant, holds fish year round...) in port washington as well. Hell, I go back to port in september for a week each year to fish the king run when theyre still fresh and silver. I'll have to hit you up next season:)

I love going fishing...

I live in Canada, I had never had much luck catching fish until last fall..

A friend and I hit this spot in mid october, it has freshwater salmon that are running up from Lake Ontario to spawn... well anyways, there is this fence blocking off a big dam where a lot of the fish are trapped... you are not allowed to go under there, but everyone does it anyways..

My friend and I were weary about sneaking through the fence, but after a few nights of not catching anything and seeing people walk back from the fence area with massive fish we decided to give it a go.

It was pretty cool actually, a hole was cut in the fence and we scaled down a rocky hill to a nice area of deep water and rock, this is a runoff from lake ontario (I wont name the place, but it is somewhere in southern ontario) and it is about 100 feet wide...

Anyways, me and my friend had a flasher (for glow in the dark spoons) and the right equipment which was recommended to us from the local tackle shop which was nearby.. My first cast I caught a 30lbs Salmon, it took me about 20 minutes to actually get it in close for my friend to net it, and my arms were burning up from trying to muscle this fish in towards us (and I workout regularly, this fish was SO strong).

I cant describe the excitement, over the course of a week we went every night and caught fish every time we went down there... we had some joints and beers as well it was such a relaxing experience...

There is also fish litterally jumping everywhere, and they are all HUGE... I understand that some people may not agree with fishing in restricted area's but these waters are kinda polluted, we did not keep any fish we caught, we took pictures and put them back in the water... we also cleaned up after ourselves and respected the environment unlike other people down there.

All in all fishing is an amazing thing to do, very fun and exciting, especially when you catch your first big fish!
 
If you want to have a fuckton of fun learning to fly-fish, go for carp in a smaller, stained body of water (red copper johns kill, and if all else fails, just drift a wax worm past them...). They dont spook to easy if your cast isnt spot on and they fight like hell. I fly fish them on a local lake in the mid summer to keep up my fly-rod big fish handling skills up to par for the king run;)

Yeah,......I live across from Madison High School. That's very close to your old neighborhood.

I always fish Medina Lake. I see you have fished there too. My friend owns Red Cove Marina so, I get to launch my boat there for free. (sweeeeeet) it usually costs $8.00 to launch and park your truck there for the day. I work at a wholesale produce distribution company so I just bring my friend some fresh fruit and vegetables and he's happy.

Yeah I was less than a mile from MHS. Always shopped at the HEB down the road not too far from there.
 
Wow! Too bad we didn't meet earlier. We could've gone fishing together. I like to go fishing with just my dog along with me but it is nice to have someone with you to talk to and trade stories.
 
It's really kinda fucked up, my rod and reel went mysteriously missing (:p) a few months ago, last place I saw it was in the back of my friend's Jeep. Of course they have no idea what happened. I can't rightfully accuse them of pawning it or anything because their head unit DID get stolen sometime in that general time frame, and material belongings be damned I value friendship more than whatever mistake someone may make, but damnit that was a pretty sweet setup I had, and now I gotta get another one before I can go back out. I definitely can't afford to go to the shop and buy a new rig, gonna see if I can buy a pole off my neighbor though, I went over there a few days ago to borrow some tools and noticed a good 20 rod & reels in his shed.

Too bad about your rod and reel. Maybe your neighbor will just give you one. I have a bunch of them and I'd give one to a friend, I don't use the real expensive ones anyway so its no big deal. Maybe 50 - 60 bucks at the most.
 
Yeah I hear ya. I can't deny that it'd be awesome if he gave me one, but part of me would still wanna make him accept some cash. Damn pride, always getting in the way of things! ;)

And yeah, mine wasn't top of the line or anything, I had a 7' Shakespeare Ugly Stik and Quantum Optix 4 bearing spinning real. It got the job done by all means. Between that combo and the Cajun Line (and the right hooks for the spot of course) I never hooked a fish and managed to lose it, not including snags on the way in. Versatile too, all I'd have to do at the most to switch between saltwater and fresh was cut off a leader and tie on a lure. Sometimes just put some nightcrawlers right on the leader. That's how I landed my biggest catfish :)

LOL, it's just that fact that it's MINE is what makes it badass in my mind, ya dig? ;)

Yeah I had a fishing buddy down there, but he drank too much! We would leave my house (Corian Springs Dr off of O'connor) and at 5 in the morning he was throwing back beers.
I remember one time we took my bass boat to Choke Canyon and he was drinking one beer after the other. I told him we were going to be out all day he better slow down because I'm not putting out the boat until around 6 pm.
Well it was a scorcher that day! Not breeze what so ever. I remember him sitting there holding a little umbrella to shade himself and saying he could here me chew my sandwich. A little after noon I wanted to hit the frio river inlet for some White Bass. I was at full speed and looked over at him passed out. I made the rest of his day Hell! I kept starting the boat and playing music while we moved from spot to spot. Then near the end of the day I started popping a few cold ones and taunted him.

Have you fished Calaveras?? Do you know the wall I'm talking about??


To the fisherman who lost his rig: I was going down the road one time on my way to the camping and fishing spot in the Appalachian mountains. And suddenly realized my $300+ rod and reel had blown out of the back of my truck! I turned around and did about 110 mph to get back to the point where I knew I had seen it in the truck bed. Then turned and went back at aout 20 mph looking on the side of the road for it. Never got it. IT STILL CHAPS MY ASS to think that someone saw it fly out and they stopped and took it. I hope it was completely destroyed.
I did replace it though. With a 7' St Croix graphite rod and Quantum Kinetic.
But I do have 15 other rod and reel sets too. From 12' surf Ugly stick w Penn reel to a 4' ultralite micro rod and reel.

I protect those things with my life!! I never let anyone use them either.
Oh and it is a sin to let dust settle on any fishing equipment!!
