Black metal!?

Velvet Cacoon - Genevieve (definitely their best)

Ultra-trancey, spaced-out, atmospheric black metal... inspired by taking very large doses of dextromethorphan and various tryptamines on a boat off the coast of Oregon, in the middle of the night. Also very nature-mystic.

Nevermind invoking Satan and all that shit; these people have contacted extra-dimensional entities that would make Dani Filth shit himself in awe and terror.

It really captures the DXM vibe perfectly.

ALSO they have a new album coming out soon called "Atropine". From their site: "This album was carefully created over a four year period under the closely supervised influence of mandrake, hemlock, datura stramonium, henbane, belladonna and jesaconitine isolate. Most of the drone library was originally recorded to DAT and buried in the ground for two years before reviving them for use. "

Genevieve has some nice moments, and is quite a decent album- if you could gt rid of those horrible vocals....But besides that, I think their a joke band. All the stories- diesle powred guitars played through aqauriums, self-mutilating on stage- all bullshit. Velvet Cacoon, at least thy know thy are joking around. Some "okay" stuff but- all in all it leaves me a bit flat. I also think their music is a lot less thn what they make out....Northsuite is absolutely shithouse IMO. I'd be interested to hear their new release; but I take all the drug references with a massiv tongue in cheek- you can't function on a dleriant, let alone record anything; and burying DAT's- why??? Why not I guess :D

Still, interesting entity I'd say.

^ I agree that Northsuite is unlistenable and their hoax-spreading is juvenile... maybe I am just really attracted to the idea of DXM-influenced black metal :)

I'm not too big on black metal. I like a lot of Symphonic metal like Therion and stuff like that. I also like a lot of doom. Sins of thy Beloved is a great band. Nothing like metal with growling, combined with beautiful female vocals, HEAVY guitar riffs, and violin :)

The new Darkthrone album- Dark Thrones and Black Flags (came out 20th Oct) is fucking great! Basiclly black punk metal rock. Indeed.

So it seems the name Gorgoroth is actually going to Infernus, as opposed to King ov Hell and Gaahl. Interesting, I believe there will be two Gorgoroths soon :D

Incidentally; did ahyone know King ov Hell is a fucking primary school teacher? How???

Well, I may as well keep on talking to myself.

The new Satyricon album is fucking good. Not eactly an advnced piece of work, 2 cd's, disk 2 with some live/demo/analogue mixes. The actual album, The Age of Nero, is very good, more prgressive then pure black....

Wolves in the Throne Room is my Black Metal of choice right now. Pure dissolution into the ethereal. Sounds like blood flowing through the earth's arteries in forms of rocks and stones, like cliffs shattering and rumbling all the way to your fingertips. Highly recommended.

My favorite black metal is Dissection. I also am into Impaled Nazerene and a bunch of other crazy shit. One reason why I am very picky with black metal is cause I HATE any metal that has a non demonic voice even for one line of singing ( occasional voice over or intros are different. I also dont like death, doom or grind (though I like alot of grind even though it is absurd shreeking like vocals) where it is just a growl that isnt even really singing with a few exceptions.

^Wow, that must be a sucky limitation to have. But each to their own.

So- Samel have relased their new album entitled "Above"- nice blend of blackness and industrial of course. Also Rotting Christ with their first 31 track live DVD (epic- 31 songs!) have proven themselves again. Also been enjoying Nargaroth- nice weird guy who masturbates over his own band t-shirts them gives them away....Anyway, his/their music is great, very repetitive though, but melodic in that black metal sadness way- also, Ash (Nargaroths main guy) seems to believe in utterly destroying the sound quality of his projects- from 1998 to now, the production has gotten worse. But kudos to him for not being Satanic- bit of a worry that he is associated with NSBM, but he seems to be a bit more complex then the likes of Rob Darken and Nokturnal Mortum- who are fucking shit by the way. NAZI PUNKS FUCK OFF

i like early black metal, i don't enjoy the music enough to follow the new shit coming out though.
favorite albums are darkthrone a blaze in the northern sky up till panzerfaust and pure holocaust by immortal.
the last couple darkthrone albums i've heard (the cult is alive and dark thrones and black flags) are complete and utter shit. i know my punk pretty damn well and darkthrone can't play punk. boring albums.

^Well, seeing as punk can indeed take on many forms, I'd say Darkthrone are doing a good form of blackened punk/rock. Each to their own I guess, they remind me of some amebix stuff, which I like so....I wouldn't say complete and utter shit (you missed out on Fuck Off And Die in bettwen the Cult and Black Flags) and thats a great album. Then again, Darkthrone are one of my favorite groups.....

Ya, I stopped listening to metal like 4 years ago. I found out that at raves, there are actually girls present (=D) and people were not so uptight. Metalheads can be some of the most pretentious people you'll find.

But it's good to get back into it a few times a year. It is fun stuff. And sometimes I'll use it when exercising. It does get one pumped up.
