BL Film-Making! (Formerly "BL Cinematography")

My friends claymation

Hey,
I don't know if you are allowed to put this type of stuff up, but I just wanted to show you all a claymation my friend has been working on. He just finished it and I thought maybe some would enjoy it. He did all visual work and I did the voice overs.

It is not an anti smoking claymation, you'll see.

anyways, if you liked it, check out his youtube profile. There are other videos there like it.

the video is split up into four parts. Apologies if you have to start the next clips in the middle of a scene, he's been having uploading issues.

ninjadanslarbretabar... you are hot!! oh and i love your videos.. your cute :)

pennywise your 1st video was sweet i love it.. i want to go make one now

as requested, the storm coming as from my living room window

i have shot a bunch of vid clips that i plan to edit together and then create the soundtrack to it. i'll see if i can find the time tomorrow.
just abstract shit.... no idea how it will work out.

wow, Red Arrow and L2R, great videos 8o !

Those are exactly the type of video I was talking about for the contest thread, just a short clip that is almost like a moving photograph.

I don't know why, but L2R's video gave me chills. :) Just somethin about the thunder and sound of the rain and distant traffic and the huge threatening storm clouds creates this feeling of eerie calm that makes me think of summer thunderstorms. Literally, chills. Sweet!

:D

here's the worldwide debut of
HEADY GOODNESS by l2r

enjoy
i made everything from scratch, even the sound, and you can tell i haven't played with electronic music in a long while.

wow sweet vid l2r!

intense kinda head trip. like losing your mind!

i liked the moving camera over the ground, gave a real cool sense of motion and fluid textures.

engrossing to watch, but at the same time im like "wtf is going on?! I freakin out, mannn!" ;)

good job.

Also, I hate how youtube makes the resolution of the videos so poor after uploading. I'm hoping we can find another spot to host where the quality will be better. I'd prefer to keep them streaming, though, because the videos can get quite large, and no one wants to wait a long time to download a huge file. I'm gonna try photobucket to see how that works, but maybe some of you could look around to see if you can find a better hosting spot. Failing that, I'll start a thread about it and see if anyone can suggest anything.

Here is just a little clip I edited. I don't know if that really counts because I didn't film it; but according to the American Heritage Dictionary editing is part of cinematography. ;) This was mostly just to start to get a feel for Adobe Premier and YouTube. I'm not terribly proud of it and plan on expanding it a lot once I get my desktop fixed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6TyTAIuW0E

^pretty cool, damien!

You are right, editing is def. a form of cinematography. Just because you didn't shoot the footage yourself doesn't make your video any less creative or interesting. I think there is the potential to do some seriously awesome stuff by editing various clips and music and whatnot. In fact, a cool idea for a thread or competition could be "create a music video by editing together video clips". That would be cool as hell! In fact, I might do something like that, and I formally request that someone else do one and post it in this thread. :)

Your video is already pretty good damien, you should def. expand it. I love clips of nuclear explosions. In fact, I remember seeing a video advertised a while back that was just footage of nuclear bombs going off, and I really wanted to get it. I think you've got something there with some real potential. Keep working!

Also, damien, I was wondering if you could maybe pm me to let me know where I might acquire Adobe Premiere "at its full retail price from an authorized distributor" ;). I like that program a lot better than the one i have.

i totally disagree. cinematography involves fundamental choices related to equipment and lighting at the moment the shot is captured. there are many choices a cinematographer makes which cannot be done or redone by even the most talented editor.

i totally agree. perhaps 'bl film making' would be a better title for the thread?

well, according to the dictionary, it is part of cinematography. in practice, however, I don't really know. You may be correct. I just chose cinematography because it seemed to fit in with the type of video's I was talking about being created, but damien's edited clip has made me reconsider, and now i'm sort of thinking it might be better to broaden the focus of what is meant by cinematography into something more akin to "film making," as you suggested.

cheers guys. it was fun to do, but also very tricky.

i cut the video together first with iMovie HD, and then noted down the mood cues on paper. finally, with a demo copy of ableton live, i made the sounds in accordance with the cues, but i can't save on the demo, so i have to rerecord it on garageband, and then do the appropriate conversions.
it's not as in sync as i had planned. somewhere along the line i fucked up. but it still works.

i uploaded it twice with better settings but the sound both times was completely fucked up. so then i reduced the quality and it was much clearer, albeit still too low in volume. Use headphones.

Damo, that was a pretty freaking sweet combo you made there :D
