BL Film-Making! (Formerly "BL Cinematography")

well, according to the dictionary, it is part of cinematography.
which dictionary? mw says cinematography is " the art or science of motion-picture photography". editing is not part of the photographic process.if you go by the ahd definition, i can see where confusion may arise. when they say 'development' i think they mean development in the sense of 'to subject (exposed photograph material) especially to chemicals in order to produce a visible image' not 'to create or produce especially by deliberate effort over time'.

that said, it's moot. somebody changed the thread title :)

ahd = american heritage dictionary

thanks for the title - i think it makes more sense.

i'm currently working on making a video for a track i made a while back.

whoa whoa there big fella. i watched it and liked it, I just haven't had time to comment. hold your horses, its in the mail. ;)

sorry bro
very frustrating time for me irl

bluelight aint helping, is all.

I commented on youtube, don't know if I did for all of them though. Mind Your Own was... odd. Not in a bad way mind you ;)

Ninjadan, if I were wearing a hat, I'd take it off to you. Nicely done!

Yeah I have been watching all of these also L2R. Your star-trek one took about an hour to load for me though :(
It was very cool but I am more of an Enterprise D man ;)

Lamenting for DSL
Yours sincerely
Klue

Nice vid L2R!

Was that track "mind your own" made by you? It's really catchy. It's kinda quirky and just weird too, and it goes perfect with the "campy" old star trek footage. LOL there is just something so epic about Shatner and the Tribbles and Spock and all that. It is a damn cool music video for the song, especially an Electronica song (did i use that term correctly? I get confused with all the EDM terminology. Did I use "EDM" correctly? lol see what I mean!?).

Anyway, if you did produce that track, is there any way that I can get a copy of it. It was stuck in my head all the next morning after watching the video!

Props on putting out the effort, it is definitely appreciated by me at least. I hope you don't get too frustrated and stop contributing these awesome vids. Seriously, I genuinely think they are really cool and entertaining, you would be able to tell if I was being false about that, I don't bullshit people like that anyway. I might not straight out tell you it sucked, but I wouldn't be saying all the good things I do about your videos.

I want that song!!! Gimme!!! :X ;)

nice one penny!

i saw your post as soon as it was up but my youtube has been buggin out till i just did a quick restart.

the music and imagery fit rather well. there's a nice dream like quality to it.

I would've preferred some of the cuts being more in time with the music/beat and a brief moment of silence after the track ends.

i posted that track of mine ages ago in the "your own productions" thread in music & dj's. you can download the original here

sweet. I really do like this song. It makes me think of a bunch of gnomes all working underground in a mine or something. lol i dunno why, but its cool. :D

I really liked you video PW...

I also liked the song a lot. What are some more good songs by them? I may just go on a downloading spree....

ummm...lol honestly I don't know! I tend approach music more on a song by song basis. I don't often like to listen to a whole album, as I get tired of hearing the same artist over and over, unless it is someone who I am really in to. I'm more of a "mix" kind of guy.

Anyway, I just heard that song somewhere, liked it, and downloaded it. The I remembered it and thought it would go well with the video. As I recall, they came out with an album in 2007 called "pocket symphony" that had a few good tracks on it. I still have it. Maybe check that one out, or google up some reviews of their work and see what people recommend as their best stuff.

Thanks all for the nice comments. I'm glad you liked the video.

Thanks for the critique too, L2R. I had wanted to edit it a bit more tightly, and thought about trying to sync it up with the music more, but it was late, and after spending some time on the first few clips, I just sort of tossed it together and edited out the crap parts of the individuals clips.

It was also my first time working with Adobe Premier. I don't know what it is about Adobe products, but they seem to be anything but user-friendly. I mean, I know they are really powerful, and people can do some incredible stuff with them, but I think that in order to get all the complexity and depth to the program, they sacrifice the user-friendliness and simplicity that could make them easy to use. I still barely comprehend photoshop. The learning curve is so steep. It's not like you can just pick up the basics from playing around with it, and then naturally learn the rest as you go along. You have to read huge manuals and book after book to really be able to use it, sometimes even for simple stuff that shouldn't really be hard. For instance, I could not for the life of me, figure out how to make a simple title screen with words on a black background, or fade in or fade out to black. There doesn't seem to be an obvious option for it. The only way I could work out to do that, was to create a totally black jpeg, and then transition into and then out of that. It is like a 10 step process to do something that simple. Couldn't they just have an option like "fade in" or "fade out"? I just don't get it and it is frustrating as hell. :p :X

/rant ;)

See, I found the title screen, but there is no obvious option to put it on a blank background. The only way I could find was to import a totally black image and display that behind the text. But it would be so much easier just to have an option for a blank screen for the text to go on.

Same with the fade in from black/fade out to black. I found a way to do it, but it should be so much simpler. It's a fairly common thing that is done with film and videos.
