Big Day Out 2007

Not open for further replies.
Another crap lineup. Or maybe I'm just getting too old. Nup, Summer Field Dayz is looking way better. Less teenagers, smaller lines cos everyones high and a waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy better lineup.

Bring back Metallica!

Well after I got reprimanded:

We appreciate your membership here at eBay. As such, we would like to take this opportunity to discuss with you a complaint we received involving an unwanted email you sent to another member via the eBay Email Forwarding System.

The purpose of the Email Forwarding System is to provide open communication between a seller and a buyer regarding an eBay transaction. Below is a copy of the email you sent through the Email Forwarding System:

Is there any real reason why you couldn't be killing yourself right now, instead of denying a legitimate music fan the right to a festival for the proper ticket price?

It's just that it's generally weak, pathetic people who kill themselves and you certainly fit the criteria.

Although eBay maintains a neutral position regarding this complaint, we wanted to let you know a complaint has been received. Currently this will not affect your account. Any complaint to eBay regarding the use of the Email Forwarding System outside of its intended purpose can be reported to eBay.

I thought I'd let them know why I was pissed:

Do you realise that the sale of Big Day Out tickets for higher than the face value of the ticket is illegal. Thus by allowing these sales to take place on your site you are sanctioning illegal activities.

I'm sure this means nothing at all though in the face of the percentage eBay gets off of every sale. Your terms and conditions are negotiable?

And their wank, wank, fucking wank response:

ello,

Thank you for writing eBay Australia with regard to some questionable
event ticket listings you've noticed on the site lately. My name is
Del, and I'm happy to speak with you today.

I definitely understand how seeing such activity on eBay can be
disconcerting. However, due to the nature of our marketplace and the
standards on which it was built, we generally trust our sellers to
accurately quote the face value of their tickets when they are listed.
This is mostly due to the fact that we are not experts in the field of
event ticket prices. As a result, we're reluctant to remove listings
for event tickets that are in compliance with our Event Tickets policy.

In any case, if you come across an auction that you believe is in
violation of resale laws or the event organisers' Terms of Sale, please
don't hesitate to immediately contact your local authorities with the
details of the auction and the item number. We have a longstanding
policy of providing full cooperation with law enforcement agencies, and
will gladly assist them in any investigation of unlawful conduct within
this venue.

You can find more information on our Event Tickets policies by visiting
this page:

http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/policies/event-tickets.html

Your concern is very much appreciated, and your dedication to the safety
of our members is commended. Thanks again very much for your time, and
I wish you the best of luck with your future eBay transactions!

Regards,

Del

^^ so you ban some mofo's or what?

They are just rich idiots with access to a computer. Surely it's not hard to ban their IP address's. If they're breaching the ticket terms of sale:

...they'll get banned and fined or whatever the penalty for breaching Ticket terms of sale are....?

Sick 'em lostpunk

I just got word that I may have a free ticket to an air-conditioned balcony with free grog and all those other nice things. It probably won't eventuate, but its still made me all excited in more ways than one. So if all goes well, I'll have somewhere to drink/cool down in between acts.

Huzzah! :D

Hmmm...

A) I have no idea who the local authorities are that would actually give a shit.

B) I'm pretty lazy...

Depends where you are. I had a quick look in NSW, and the Office of Fair Trading says that scalping is not illegal there (except within the area surrounding the Sydney Football Stadium, Sydney Cricket Ground and Sydney Olympic Park). The OFT says that it's down to the promoter to make a rule on whether tickets can be re-sold.

So you might be best off complaining to the BDO promoters. Course, there's not a lot that they can actually DO about it, that I can see....

after briefly skimming over this thread, I think I'm the only person who thinks this line up is FUCKING MUD BOX

Tool - Meh
Jet - Meh
Peaches - Meh
Violent Femmes - Cool ten years ago...
The Herd - So so
Sleepy Jackson - so so
Scribe - meh

why don't you just tune into triple j and flick back to commercial radio stations every hour or so and save the money, crowds and bullshit generally surrounding this puss box event

The only hope for this years BDO is for them to lure shannon noll and casey donovan out of obscurity to sing 4 different renditions of nut bush city limits 8)

I got my ticket really just to see Tool and Violent Femmes who ive seen 1000 time but put on a good show.

Lost Punk, there's pretty fucking easy way of getting rid of scalpers and that's to take away their market. IE don't buy the fucking tickets, it's only going to take 3 or four events of nobody buying their tickets and them being left with 5, 6, 7 grand worth of unbought/unsold tickets for them to fuck off. It's a pretty simple, nay, the fundamental rule of economics that where there is consumer demand there will be supply.

Even though I'm a capitalist through and through I don't really agree with scapling because it does deprive genuine fans of whatever the ticket is for, seeing said event at a reasonable price, there is little to no point telling scalpers that they're scumbag cunts etc etc because they're just harvesting a market. It's be wiser to start questioning the brain power of the whinging whining fuckwits who keep fuelling the scaplers market

anyway fuck the big day out, they haven't had a decent lineup in ages... :D

Thats like saying, if you stop buying drugs, drug dealers go out of business.

Its true, but people are allllways going to buy drugs. Just like people will allllways buy scalepd tickets. People REALLY, REALLY want to go to these events.

On another note. I signed up for the sydney ballot today. Heres hoping...

Line up isnt too good.

I'll be there checking the WHS, decible checks etc for Gold Coast City Council. As it's a Sunday, I'll get paid overtime to attend for a few hours.=D

The BDO site says the following:

Selling tickets for higher than the face value is a breach of the conditions of sale. Tickets sold on auction sites will be declared invalid and the ticket holder will be refused entry. You have been warned.

I don't know if they will actually follow anything up on ebay, but even if they do it still does fuck all to the scalpers. It's the poor punter who shows up and gets told that the ticket they've bought has been cancelled :\

Hey I'm definitely trying jumping the fence rather than resorting to scalpers but I can't speak for the other people who got fucked over by not getting a ticket.

It's pretty lame justification on eBay's part to request reporting to the law enforcement authorities rather than actually investigating the unethical/immoral scalping of tickets. They're well aware that the prices that they are being listed for are above the purchase price. Anybody can quickly figure that out. And it sucks that they're solely motivated by profit.

I missed out! I made a concious decision to not ask my dad to put one on his credit card for me for me to pay back later as deep down i know i really can't afford to go to rainbow AND BDO so i'll just stick with rainbow again... bummed i'm missing Tool, peaches, Femmes and Muse though :(

Got ticket!! Wont risk jumping fence if Tool are headlining. Tool are best live act I've seen with The Cure and nine inch nails on par.

this opinion really shits me, why is it such a bad thing to motivated by profit??

Well let's run through a few reasons:

* The status quo world climate system is on the verge of cataclysmic collapse
* Hundreds of species go extinct every day
* Thousands of people die of starvation every day even though there is technically enough food in the world to feed everyone
* The average person has to work their entire lives to own the lives to own the roofs over their heads whilst the enslaving class have everything handed to them on a silver platter

There's four. Think of some more yourselves at home kids.
