I thought you would understand this. But...
When the hospital doesnt get payed it has to charge more for its services. As a result of that, insurance companies have to pay more , as do paying customers.
The bill isnt getting deferred anywhere, its getting absorbed into the cost of running the hospital, which has a very direct relationship to how much the hospital charges for its services.
That is the VERY VERY BEGINNING of how it raises costs for insurance companies and thus people. There is a lot more deeper info than that.
Actually the hospital bill DOES get covered by the city. thats why when you dont hvae insurance and you have a medical emergency they send you to the communities hospital that has a program set up to basically cover everyone who needs medical attention, yet they cant pay for it. I promise you, a hospital cannot afford to "foot the bill" for everyone they treat that doesnt pay. If they did that there prices would be so massive that NO ONE would be able to get medical care.
Im suprised you have never heard of these types of programs. Its a very simle concept. the city pays for these bills out of there taxes. Atleast thats how it is in the city I live in. If you dont have insurance they take you to the local "city funded" hospital that has a program set up for the patients with no insurance.
