BBC 3 Thurs 9pm - How ecstasy Works 13/1/2011

Sheee-ite. Forgot it was on.

Must be that MDMA-induced Alzheimer's catching up with me I reckon.

never touched the stuff, when i was a youngsta and went out dancin, i might have had beer or 2 and a spliff, sometimes just water, just love dancin. never appealed to me, but h, now your talkin.... are they doin one about that then, i think they should

Na, there is one more episode. About coke.

right, well that should be ok. was tellin some youngsters yesterdy that coca cola was made with real cocaine back in the day , they thought i was talkin shit they also told me i was talkin shit when i said that alcohol was a more physically damaging grug than gear, coz all they could see was people bangin up. now, these are 20 year old lds, who when theyve had a drink generlly 1 of them always tries to grope me but hes ok when hes sober!!;)

I thought it was pretty good. I was expecting to be shouting at the TV, as well. I knew Leah fucking Betts would get a mention. Shame they weren't a bit more clear that it was WATER that killed her, not MDMA. Also, those apples she took were tested to be MDMA only, for the person who claims they were MDEA. In all, quite impressed. I was also happy with the mention of medicinal use. Definitely one of the better drug documentaries I've seen.

Well, after last weeks slagging I gave over the cannabis program, I guess it's only fair I say how good I thought this one was in comparison.

I thought it was going to be far more stereotypical, with people necking suspect pills. Instead it was a little more real with the use of MDMA crystal. Although I think it's data was a little dated. The initial prof guy stated that most pills now contain no MDMA and used the old 2009 stat at Glasto where only 9% of pills tested positive.

I also like the way the behaviour was pretty typical of a night out. The MDMA purist would have us drinking water, avoiding alcohol and timing the drops. These two were just going for the messy look like most of us do.

Positive benefits were shown too, which was good. The only negatives mostly indicated that other factors and often other drugs were involved in a lot of the deaths. Treatment for PTSD is being trialed in the States which is all well and good, but I agree with MOP, that should be over here too ffs!

Overall, good show. Ching time next week. I think that will be a little more hard hitting. I can't see that being used for therapy any time soon.

I felt for the dad.... i think most folks due though, i thought it was pretty good how honest he was about how is son died, and saying how it be a fucking horrible way to die!

But his son was being just plain silly, i mean alot of people polyuse drugs such as MDMA and Acid, but im sorry you are just asking for trouble when you polyuse as many drugs as his son did!

Wont be watching the one on coke, have no intrest in that!

Sorry -- I got my wired crossed about the MDEA/Leah Betts statement. Late night posting again.

Agreed. His son was an accident waiting to happen, and it came. I also thought his Dad was fantastic. He was able to articulate the reality of the polydrug situation, and not knee jerk blame ecstacy. And he was a muso too! Check out his entire wall of records. And his sound system. Cool guy, I'm sad for him.

Ecstasy: How Drug Work on BBC3

Edit: Mods im sorry i must b e blind -_- please close this thread ;)

I thought it was worse than the cannabis one (which i didn't think was that bad).. Purely due to the fact when speaking about Leah Betts and the other girl that died in 2005 they failed to mention how much water they actually drank. Instead seemed to blame it on MDMA's anti diuretic affect and also said: "Because of MDMA users dancing for hours on end it leads them to think they need more water than they do.."

Did, however, mention the great success it is having in therapy with people in later life cancer, marriage councilling, PTSD, etc..

Not bad overall..

*Didn't watch last 20 mins*

u just knew that wud get brought up! they dont have much else to go on with the negatives, apart from ending up lookin like that lad. twat

to be fair i think they gave the reasons for the death, ie drinking too much water without being insensitive to the families

I thought it was very good except for the lack of detail about the girl's deaths, and I was very unimpressed that the gateway effect was mentioned, and the boy's death. It was very little to do with ecstasy, a combination of failures and problems which would have been difficult to stop without much time and work.
"If you are willing to take ecstasy then you're more likely to take other illegal drugs."
There are so many reasons for this, and not one is a direct effect of the drug. Absolute bollocks.
Again, no proper mention of cuts and a few scientific errors, but overall really very good.

The MDMA sample in the lab looked like that red henna stuff ages ago pre drought. That was good & cheap.

Would LOVE to even just see all those swedgies they had in the flesh!

I was impressed by the documentary and felt it to be a reasonably balanced portrayal of what pills are about.

For me it was particularly funny when the bird was fucked and gave it the line,,,

"I forgot what I was just about to say"

This happens to me constantly when im fucked.

Also, when they pulled out that tray of pills. <3 <3 <3
