Opioids Avoiding the Withdrawals

it's funny how fast physical dependence can creep up on you...only a year and a half ago, i actually thought i just got a lot of colds and viruses, cause every time i came off a 2-3 day stretch of using , i'd get watery eyes, yawning, diarrhea and achy joints. at that time i wasn't even using large amounts of down, just small amounts on a regular basis. soon, however, it clicked in that those "colds" went away when i did some more opiates...and here we are today. i live in fear of withdrawals, they truly make it impossible to get anything done or focus on anything but what you're going through.

if you can, like everyone else has pointed out, do yourself a favour and take a LONG break from any kind of opiates.

hahah yeah I did the same thing years ago I was like this is amazing oxy feels great and no bad side effects(throwing up is nothing to me compared to coke crash) and so I did them for like 2 years straight. And tried to take a break WHOA, thats when the negative side effects kick in

I was in your shoes not too long ago. As great as this place is, I think everyone knows it's kind of silly to keep shouting "stop now or you're fucked!" let's face it, 99% of the people here like to get loaded and very few people are going to be convinced to just stop. No one just stops and goes "whew! Thanks to the folks at bluelight i can just put down my drugs and be glad I just narrowly avoided trouble!"

Hah.

Look, if you're going to use just be sure you have enough of a supply that you either don't have to stop or you at least will have enough to slowly taper down once you decide on your own it's time to quit.

Your own personal demons and smarts will decide how far down the rabbit hole you let yourself go. I drew a line in the sand for how many pills a night i would take, even if they stopped working. Sure, I splurge now and then, but I refuse to let my usage get progressively worse and worse.

Not everyone can chase a high and give up when it becomes a chore.

Just use a little smarts and have the willpower to take a step back when you can see yourself going too far. If you can do that, you should be fine.

Ha that's the damn truth. People will stop when they want to -- if seeing crying family members/girlfriends/people ODing and dying never stopped me I for damn sure know a forum wouldn't have. It's best to just do what you do as safely as possible.

Yeah It doesn't matter how you tell someone they want advise, but they want to hear certain advise if you know what I mean. And intelligence won't help you quit, I always had a 4.0 and my iq is above 150 and that only made me more of an addict. I saw a gritty world at a young age because I looked at EVERYTHING and was always thinking. And once I found drugs I could turn it all off, and once I got addicted I was able to get it going until I was shooting up heroin and oxy in the same needle at the age of 18 and od a few time before I went to rehab and conned a doctor to give me a constant supply of vicodin and tramadol to keep me from doing such bad things

I didn't get them, well I did, but didn't think about them, for nearly the whole first year. I remember I would go back to my parents at christmas (with no gear) and be freezing cold and weak, and somehow didn't even put 2+2 together!

Trust me though, the more you think about them, the worse they get. Someone explained this logically once, with your brain anticipating the w/d symptoms and therefore releasing the endorphins, meaning that basically yeah try not to think about it as much..

3 years in I get them so bad and I think about them all the time, 24/7, worrying about when i'm next gonna be sick, how I'm gonna get over it etc. If you look through my posts on here, most of them are about being dopesick and coping with it etc.. It is the worst thing in the world and I can't wait to be rid of this shit once and for all.

yeah it of course has physical addiction signs, but I have tried to have this convo with someone else, the real bitch to addiction is the mental part. IF you think about the next fix time goes slow and it will fuck with you, like when I was in rehab I didn't get any meds, I didn't want them and the withdraws didn't really even happen. And the only thing that made since was I didn't want the drugs and knew I couldn't get them so my mind and body gave up. Like how many of you have thrown up while preparing your hit, not from withdraws, but just thrown up from anticipation and thinking how amazing it is about to feel, and then out of no where blahhh. I think the craving is the kicked. Like alot of people on here were like addiction I didnt know about withdraws until reading about it and know they are horrible. Well you didn't seem to even notice they were even happening yet so what changed? how you mentally felt about them

Choose carefully

^ +1

Many many times I have gagged while preparing a speedball. The anticipation of opening the bag and cooking it and smelling the vapor coming off the spoon.

But yea, before i ever experienced opiate withdrawals, some sick part of me actually WANTED to se what they were like. Being that i never experienced them, i had only experienced natural sicknesses. Ones that you can sleep through... ones that dont chemicaly, psyichally, and psychologicaly require your body and mind to unbearably crave something.

Withdrawal is unlike anything you have experienced, unless you have gone through them.

Cut back while you are ahead. The road of an opiate addict is long. Once you get to the maintenance phase, you have only a few choices. 1) Stick with your drug of choice, which is inevitably a gamble on financial status and your hook being consistantly available. 2) Switch over to buprenorphine (subutex/suboxone) prescriptions, which are costly and require monthly visits to a doctor (hope you got excellent medical insurance). 3) Kick and go through a week of horrible withdrawals, a month of post-acute withdrawals, and contracting the incurable disease of ADDICTION.

The choice if yours my friend. Take the advice from those of us who have been there, and dont want to see you there.

Oh yea, forgot to mention. Withdrawals from buprenorphine are no joke either. Sure you can taper, but some people, including myself, still suffer crippling withdrawals even after a taper schedule.

There is also methadone, but who would choose that over buprenorphine. The withdrawals from methadone are said to be worse than those of heroic or OC. IMO methadone is outdated.

to me the worst part about withdrawal is having absolutely no energy. You just want to do nothing and even then it's shit cause you can't get comfortable. I've only experienced mild withdrawal. Headaches, watery eyes, NO ENERGY, very sore back. I feel so weak mentally and physically. My body feels like a bag of shit and my mind is useless and can't perform work. I want to smoke but when I do it's crappy , makes my arms and legs ache.

well yeah if you are off them, or only have mild withdraws I would keep it that way. Coming off heroin I felt like glass. Just everytime I moved it hurt like nothing I had known. Thinking about food was too much to take even. AND to top it off I messed up my elbow a long time ago skateboarding(broke it really bad and had to get plates and screws put it) and then while addicted to heroin since I had nerve damage and the heroin I couldn't feel anything on that arm, so once people found out I could just elbow a tree or something dumb they always wanted me too, dumbass, so I now need a 13,000 surgery and have to take pain killers. God taught me on using irony on that one

Be careful and tread lightly my friend. I'm RX'd 24mg's of Dilaudid a day on top of being on a methadone script. There is many days I take far more though. I mean I've IV'd 20mg's of Dilaudid in one go. You do NOT want to experience Opiate withdrawal ever. Trust me it is the single worse thing that ever happened to me. I escaped it for a long time but after 2 1/2 years of being on Dilaudid everyday in excess of 24+ mg's & a decent heroin habit I used to have. I'm absolutely physically addicted to opiates.

If I didn't have methadone as a RX along with my 24mg's of Dilaudid a day I'd still be in the endless cycle of running out early every month and being in the worst physical and mental pain of my life every 3 weeks because I'd always manage to screw up my scripts. Now I just save the done for when I run out and I can make it through just fine.

The only real way to avoid withdrawal is to not use frequently and get your dose down. Or get something like Methadone where you can take it once every 48 hours and have no withdrawals. I totally wouldn't suggest the later route though because thanx to methadone RX I have a tolerance like a gorilla! I have to bang like 20mgs of Dilaudid or at least 160mg's of Oxycodone in one go to even feel anything.

So heres a lil update guys. ive gotten to the point where i can go for about 4 maybe 5 days without use, but after that its ALL I CAN THINK ABOUT. its not even the physical withdrawl symptoms im getting its way more mental.
ive started using methadone about once a week, i go through 80ML's a night..... but i leaves me feeling fucking amazing for 2 days soo ill keep it up. i still havent really felt any physical pain or flu like symptoms. but it might just be that the mental with drawls are far more noticeable that anything physical and therfore leading me into this downward spiral.
My friend says im a monster cuz i down 80 ml's of methadone in a night.... maybe just a natural born tolerance to the shit heh

^matter of time really before you get those symptoms and one days they'll be unbearable.

It's just so fucked up that once you get addicted and experience that fullblown blown w/d, later even if you use for a day you will get w/d. Sweats, depression, you name it. I wish I knew that before I get into the shit.

Of course people here will use, that's why they are here, dah! But telling them the ramifications of their actions might make them think a little harder about what they are doing. That's all I hope I can achieve w/ my posts.

Your gonna get it if you don't stop. Its so fucking horrible man. Id rather swallow an iron ball. Atleast that would only last a week and a bit of pain. The pain of opiates last so damn long. Its just so horrible man :( Tis probably the only thing in my life I regret. You just don't unerstand what your getting into. Its sad. The day will come when you can't get opiates. Give yourself a year from now. You dont get it bro.

Soo its been over a year now and ive Detoxed twice, Once at the hospital, And another time on my own free will cold turkey.

Oxy, fentanyl, and methadone where my Drugs of choice, but ive recently gotten into Heroine (Insnuffilated) due to the more BANG for your BUCK

Now ive done 7 points in a 4 day span (yes i know thats not much, but this has been my relapse binge) and im quitting today.

I was just wondering How the withdrawls from straight up Heroine differ from Methadone (which is what ive detoxed off of the last 2 times)

the methadone withdrawls lasted over a week, with the worst part for me being the anxiousness (i wanna jump outta my skin feeling) and fatigue/weakness.

i heard heronie is more intense withdrawls but in a shorter period of time.
lucky i got 3 Klonadines and a bunch fo gabapentines to help me through them.

can i get any feed back or insight on the H withdrawls?? thanks

I totally agree with you, Draigan.

Opiates are like a double-edged sword, they help and make you feel great on one side and then turn on you with the other.

Withdrawal is one of the most fucking worst thing that's happen to me in years. When I first started taking 'em for pain, everybody warned me about addiction and suggested I slow it down - but at the time I didn't notice anything 'addictive' or 'bad' about the pills until 8 months later when I started gaining a heavy tolerance and getting very ill without them.

methadone is one of the worst to withdraw from aside from hydromorphone. Last year I went to a detox in Florida, came back two weeks later and was still sick until I got my pills again a day or so after returning. Yet, there's been times that I've ran out of oxy (second to finish after the hydromorphone), and it's withdrawal isn't as nasty.

Heroin withdrawals will probably seem a relief after the methadone. Most Bluelighters will agree that meth withdrawals are unspeakably horrific - heroin withdrawals are comparatively easier in the sense that they last a fraction of the time. In terms of intensity heroin probably tops meth but its possible to just zonkout on something which you know wont precipitate another addiction for the 4-5 days.
If you've got time mate seek out naltrexone to lower your tolerance before you jump off, itll make it that much easier.Im becoming something of an advocate for the stuff, but its made my opiate journey so much more bearable I just feel that I need to put it out there since its largely neglected on BL.
Im sorry to hear about how things have panned out for you mate and I wish you the best of luck!

it's different for everybody. I'm clean now (over a 3 yrs off DOC, almost 1 year off suboxone), but I remember my very first W/D like it were yesterday.

it took about 2 straight months of daily use for me to W/D when I stopped. Prior to that I remember using every day for a month and then stopping for a week and not feeling any physical withdrawal, but also a big part of that was I could get more. The first time I REALLY W/D'ed was because my script was out, couldn't be filled in 2 weeks, and the streets were bone dry. knowing there was nothing on the horizon really made things bad for me. very few things are worse than w/d. the combination of the physical symptoms with the mental trauma is horrible. i thank god daily i do not have to worry about going through that anymore. it's def. a character builder though...

if it were 100% physical it'd be easier to handle, but when you're addicted through and through the mental withdrawal is horrible too. it's like a complete mental breakdown, man at his weakest. and if you're in a situation where you still have responsibilities that you're committed to, having to do those going through withdrawal .... forget about it.

actually i worked up a tolerance like that i used 2-3 maybe 4 times a week ,but i went for the absolute MAX ,nodd the fuck out, each time added a few mg each time ,i didnt get physically addicted for 6 years ...and its the honest truth
