I think the main reason everyone is full of resentment is because we chose AusSoc as a slightly different alternative to The Lounge. Similiar but different. We don't want to come into another forum that has thread after thread of "Reasons to vote Gentleman Loser for president!" or "Draw what you think randycaver looks like!"
There is already a place for that... a thriving place. Lounge - while not my cup of tea - has a great purpose on here and a large bunch of regular writers.
AusSocial isn't against those who enjoy The Lounge coming in here and participating... we are just against people trying to disrupt our fragile balance of a forum and turn it into something similar to The Lounge.
By all means, you are welcome. But take the time to read through a bunch of the threads and the guidelines to get a feel for the forum before starting something which may not be appropriate here.
We want to hear your opinions.
We want to have your input.
We just want you guys to respect that the forum is - or at least strives to be - one which provides some in depth discussion as well as light hearted humour. I also think that a lot of the jokes and humour in AusSoc is a different kind to The Lounge with a more English slant to the comedy rather than American.
In many ways I believe AusSoc to be the hardest forum to moderate. Where forums like "Healthy Living" or "Sex Love & R" have pretty distinct lines drawn in the sand as to what is clearly appropriate or not, here in AusSoc things are a lot more fuzzy.
Just on page 1 alone we have threads that could really belong in "The Lounge", "CE&P", "Second Opinion" and "Film & TV"... but for the most part aren't because they deal with predominately Australian issues.
I could care less for cliques. The one great thing about AusSocial is that if you are someone with something worthy to say you will get noticed. No-one here tends to really give a damn whether you are a mod or not here. No-one cares too much about postcount's either. We just care about what you have to say...
Look at "
m4ddog" for a great example... anyone can ascend to the lofty heights of the AusSoc clique providing they write something other people want to read and treat other posters with a level of respect.
We want you guys here - just as long as you have something to say and can understand that while it looks an awful lot like The Lounge at first glance it is actually entirely different.
Cheers
